Your Latest Fragrance Purchase

Fragrance of Ireland - Patrick

Cheapie, blind buy. A YouTube friend put this in his favorite fragrances list, and having run across it a few times, spontaneously decided to order it.
Really a classic fougere, the twists being, a soapy note that comes in a out, giving a clean effect, mixed with a peat moss note, giving a dirt effect. Strange, but it works and I really enjoy this as a casual scent in the evening. That peat note might not be to everyone's liking, but the rest will for sure, and the peat note isn't super pronounced so easily forgiven if a great take on a classic fragrance, at a great price is your bag.

On final closeout at Nordstrom Rack, $60 for 100mL was too good to pass up after trying a sample that was loved by both my and the wife!

OK, both just arrived (plus the spare bottle of D&G Light Blue Forever that I got because it has been discontiued)

So first the the Lalique - wowza! Old school fresh goodness for 30 bucks (for 4.2 oz bottle no less) - so @HMan - Blind Buy scores again. I am feeling so cocky now that I just may have to get the Patrick AND the Pour Un Homme De Caron Sport without sampling first! And I will make sure that I am not drinking adult beverages when I do so I don’t end up with this….

Now onto the Creed - so for me it is good to have the original as I had intended. What’s wild is how I like this though I really don’t care for rose scents (It’s really well blended though so the rose to me really doesn’t smell like rose - or at least it isn’t overpowering in the least). But I have to say Murphy & McNeil knocked their Gael Laoch out of the part because that is what piqued my interest 3 years ago to get the Creed in the first place.

One of the biggest bummers (all things in perspective - not a tragedy) of my wetshaving life was buying a Fenomeno Soap called Léon. Ok, I admit it was solely for the cover because it is one of my favorite movies of all time….(Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, and Natalie Portman were all awesome!)

Two favorite quotes: “this is from Matilda…..”

and “Bring Me Everyone. Everyone!!”

But it is like falling down in a rose garden while someone holds you down and shoves 2 dozen rose petals into your nostrils. So not my type.

But something about Viking appeals to me…..I have tried - I don’t get the reference to Old Spice - I put some OS on my hand and compared - but not really getting any resemblance. But I have to say that I also do like the Creed Viking Cologne version that FragranceNet mistakenly sent as well. So looks like a winner. I always though it would be Aventus that I’d own - but I really like Mont Blanc Explorer - so I’m in no rush.

Happy smelling day today.

You joke of the SpongeBob Patrick but it's profile doesn't sound so bad...

I quote...

"This fragrance has some rich marine notes to make it seem like you have just arrived at the ocean. In fact, sea notes are at the very top of the cologne’s scent composition along with freesia, sea grass, crisp apple and citruses. The heart consists of salt, rose, cyclamen, mint and water lily. Lastly, the base has white musk, sandalwood, grassy vetiver and moss."

Edit...

In fact I just read the scent notes on SpongeBob and Squidward also and all 3 don't sound bad !!

Oh, the irony……

Here is what Fragrantica users compared the scent of Patrick (Sponge Bob version) to…… (look @ #1 - I could have saved $200)

@Scuttlesoap I’d say those are both safe blind buys, the Patrick is something you can wear everyday, and the Sport (which isn’t really sporty at all, unless you workout in an ascot) is just sort of a fun one, in a retro way, and at worst a fabulous bedtime scent.

Patrick is inexpensive at retail, and the Caron should be out there on the gray market at a good price.

You know I make blind buys too. But still think sampling, testing in store is very worthwhile, and can save some wasted money.

Even then not always, sometimes, due to constant reformulation, and even maceration, the frag you buy is a little different from the sample, or just the excitement of the sample colors your opinion.

The one beauty of this hobby, is even if I don’t like a frag, often a year or two later, I’ll try it, and suddenly it clicks. And of course the opposite happens too.

Anyway, I’m not counting, but I’m probably at a 2 - 1 ratio of sampled buys to blind. In fact the summer lemon scent I have on the way is a blind buy, but only after sampling every other one I was interested in first, and taking an educated guess after seeing lots of reviews on it. Thank you YouTube auto translate.

Let’s see. It’ll be here on Monday, and either I’ll be a the king of lemon, or a real sour puss.

Perris Monte Carlo - Cedro di Diamante

Holy lemonade batman!

Readers will know I've been a major lemon quest, that actually started way back in February. I've sampled most of the most recommended lemon scents only to feel let down.

Well dear friends, having only one lemon left on my list, after scouring the web for reviews, in any language that Google translate would let me understand, I decided to Brian Blind Buy this one. And I’ve struck yellow gold. This is the lemon I was looking for, it’s a very, very natural (I used very twice because I’m told my American friends need the extra very for it it mean a singular, and true very) extra sugary lemonade. As bright and clear as the real thing. My thirst feels quenched with one glorious citric inhalation.

Of course that lemon overdose is never going to last long, but so far at least, it’s essentially the same as it goes to a skin scent.

Others either disappear, go too woody, or too musky to suit that wonderfully cheerful lemon scent. This is staying cheerful, just more low key, in the only needing to say very once sort of way.

Seriously, my fellow lemon-heads, so far, this looks absolutely worth the price, and worth seeking out. I’ll give a full mega wear in the coming days as we’ve got a summer heat wave on the way, and I’m ready to burn right through this 50 ml bottle!
