Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Love it Rich...the 2nd picture made me laugh as the cat looks like it's either glaring at the lather with disdain or it wants to dive right in!

Nice couple of shaves too...good call on the early pull-up on the first shave to avoid leakage!
I wish I had been quicker on the trigger and captured the smallest one on her first watch. She stuck her head in the scuttle and came out with a circular mane of lather! Alas! I laughed and she ran out of the den, never to sit watch again. It was the most humiliated she has ever been! She will sit on the toilet behind me though.

Great couple of shaves and pictures Rich!

Good job heading the advice of the safety crew to ward off Mr. M.

The safety crew is pretty thorough some days. You didn’t mention what your clarified SV 70 is though.

Rich, you get the post of the week, with your use of the word, “truncate”! Awesome!

I received a bottle from a bad batch of 70th and it had coagulated into a gelatinous cube in the bottle. The wonderful people at SV sent me another bottle and let me keep the clotted one. I bent a paperclip and attached it to my drill and chopped the bejeebers out of the clot, then ran it through a series of coffee filters to remove whatever it was that had solidified. I was left with a clear liquid that smells pretty good. It just isn't as lotiony as regular 70th, so I call it the "clarified" 70th.

Truncate is a great underused word I have been trying to use, like 'Smite' and "Cunning", and SWMBO's favorite, "Peckish". Then there is the one my doctor hates. I like to refer to my Diabetes as "The Sugar". She hates that. So sometimes I pull the Wilford Brimley and call it DiaBeetus.

A Morning in the French Countryside:

Straight Shave #291
Razor: Thiers Issard 6/8
Soap: CBL Russian Tea
Scuttle: Crown King 12oz.

Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: El Cheapo Del Grande Especialle Boar. VDH
AS/EdT: Rich's Bootleg Bay Rum DFET
Sound track: Jack Johnson "Ever Notice"

The Stuff: The French Maiden hasn't been out for a while and I figure it's time for her to remind me why I love her so. Some stropping on the linen and leather and she is shining brightly. Chris' Russian Tea is now installed into a lathering bowl for more sampling and of course, the proven lathering ability of the El Cheapo brush is always nice. We are experiencing a rare Spring day in Ohio where the temperature is close to where it should be so the cats are scattered in various windows around the house, except Buster, who was napping in the hallway and got scooped up and installed in the safety crew sink. He stayed there through the stropping, then moved to the doorway to prevent Old Man Murphy from entering the den from the doorway.

The Shave: This brush seems to really like CBL Soaps and it really whipped up to a nice lather. After talking yesterday about what defines a BBS for me I am resolved to chase one today. So I carefully watch my angles and technique through three full passes and a little clean-up on my neck and troublesome jawline. Still a little roughness on the corners but I feel it's worthy of a BBS-. Not a bad way to face the weekend. A little stingy with the A/S but I've done more passes at a more aggressive angle than usual. So I know I can pull one when I want to. I reckon I should do it more often. Just as I should use razors from the drawer of razors in coffins more.

Comments: It appears Spring is being forced into our area despite forecasts of more snow in a day or so. Sheesh! I think I will spend some time putting snow removal stuff away and maybe do some more work on the Sunroof Delete on the Mercedes. In the fall, I fiberglassed roughly over the opening and primered it to seal it for the winter. Now I need to apply plastic filler and take it over to the bedliner guy who is going to apply the pseudo vinyl roof of heavy plastic. (Try to leak now ya bastard!)
Wishing you, my brothers a great weekend and I will wait for the postman to bring my Package from Italian barber today. I think it's my Rubberset 400 clone.

Respectfully Submitted,
Rich

Awesome shave, Rich! Glad to hear that safety cat Buster held his position for the duration so you could chase the baby this morning! You'll enjoy that brush from IB!

Great read and shave Rich!

Glad to hear the safety cat cleared the way for a full shave!

After the storms:

Straight Shave #293
Razor: 6/8 CVH MK*32
Soap: SV Opuntia
Scuttle: Crown King Travel Scuttle

Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: RazoRock 400 synthetic
AS/EdT: SV Opuntia
Sound track: none

The Stuff: One of the things I need to keep myself aware of now that the razors are cabineted, is my straights are in three different places. Loose razors, coffined razors, and boxed razors. Today I broke into the boxes and the first to grab my eye is this MK32. Gotta grab it. Of course, by law, I have to use the new brush, and by choice the Opuntia. This is baby chasing gear if ever there was. Once again I need to grab a SafetyCat and place him in the post. I am thinking they don’t necessarily appreciate being conscripted into service, but Mittens does stay put.

The Shave: Using the SV method makes lathering a breeze, and I am really digging the fragrance of this stuff. The 32 sings it’s way through the first pass with no tug or irritation and my hopes for a high grade shave are elevated. Passes 2 and 3 go according to plan. I approach BBS, but run into trouble once again indeed the jawline. It just grows funny there and I settle a bit for DFS not wanting to irritate my skin. I could hit it with the Jectah’ but that goes against my ‘one razor’ rule.

Comments: Got the Miata back from the shop today and spendet a rollicking good morning drifting around corners and throwing it around as a shakedown. All appears ok, except they hooked the door and seatbelt buzzers back up. No problem there as I unplug them. We had some wicked rain yesterday and maybe some snow flurries today theorize there may have been some mixup in the weather department in Heaven and some pages got out of order. Anyway, the sump system once again earned its keep and added to my campaign for a whole house generator solution. At the rate of flow yesterday, my crocks would overflow in about a minute. Not enough time to deploy my portable generator. I made a 10k claim 8 years ago and am not wanting to do that again despite all the work I have done. I wonder if home insurance would drop me as an auto plan would? Just mulling that one over.

Rich

Glad you finally have the car back and running correctly.

I just want to add what a great work "wicked" is. It doesn't get used here on the west coast, but I think I need to start a trend.

Nice update on the car! Quite jealous of the MK32. And if my dogs took over the counter like your cats, I think I would go nuts. LOL
