Shaving with a Snake:

Straight Shave #295
Razor: 5/8 Klas Tornblom Frameback
Soap: CBL Russian Tea
Scuttle: Crown King Travel Scuttle
Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: Semogue 1305
AS/EdT: Rich's Bootleg Bay Rum DFET
Sound track: Sly and the Family Stone: Everyday People

The Stuff: This is a razor I've only used a couple of times and it's been it my cabinet for quite some time. This frameback is kind of unusual in that the tang is quite thin and the spine is clamped over the blade. What happens with this design is it is challenge to get a good grip on the thin blade. It has a bit of a tendency to twist if one isn't very careful. This is quite prominent when stropping. No matter, this ol' boy is really sharp and ready for shaving. The Semogue is really coming into it's own with the bristles spreading out and blooming like crazy. And...of course... Mr. Lindsay's amazing soap! I can't identify what makes up this Russian Tea, but I am liking it very much. It takes a little effort to get it to peak with my water, but man oh man is it worth it. SafetyCat came into the den when I started stropping (or trying to without slicing my strop) and inserted himself into the right sink

The Shave: I think I may have been a bit dry with the Tea on the first pass as it was a little scritchy, but once I added a bit of water, it was slick as can be. This razor acts like a wedge until it tries to twist in my hand and inflict serious bodily harm to me. Luckily I have a SafetyCat on station to keep that from happening. Just in case, I apply Alum to my grip hand and that helped a lot. Not a lot of feedback from this razor but it is sizzling through a two day growth and after two passes only a little bit of touch-up was required to arrive at the DFS station. The real peril, being a single winger, is sometimes I grip the razor in a manner that it might 'flip' and cause serious hull damage. This will take some more practice to master, but I will keep at it until I get more comfortable with it.

Comments: It appears Spring is finally going to arrive in the valley. I was outside in shirt sleeves yesterday and probably again today before it rains this afternoon. I think I'll be mixing up a mess of Round-up to spray the weeds around the house before putting down the barrier and mulch for SWMBO's planned works. There is a youth group that is going to come and do the digging and spreading that I can't do any more. I kind of feel myself die a little inside at the prospect of my limitations. But once it's done, It will be a lot easier to maintain.

Great read, shave, and picture Rich!

Sounds like you have the Klas, pretty much under control, as long as the safety cat is on station.

Good Read Rich and you gave me quite a scare on Facebook today, you ok?

id like to hope it’s something like a hiatal hernia, but it’s in my neck too. Going to the doc today and get her opinion.

I saw the facebook post. Hope everything is okay. Please keep us updated... praying for a favorable outcome.

Nice shave and read, Rich. I love those thin framebacks, even though they do require a little extra care in handling. Going to have to break my "stay away from FB" rule now, but I think the gist can be gotten from previous posts. Praying for you, brother.

Yesterday I spent the better part of the day in the Emergency Room while waiting for a couple of tests to come back. I apparently did not have a heart attack based on the blood tests. I will be following up with my family Doc to see what she thinks. Certainly my life was never in danger excep from boredom of sitting in a hospital bed for 9 hours waiting on two blood tests with no food or water. I very nearly bolted. I think if this happens again, I’ll have a neighbor take me to the one SWMBO works at.

I am extremely glad that it was not a heart attack. I hope that your doc can help you figure it out.

Well Rich that seems like good news but also some uncertainty. I hope everything works out and the family doc figures out what was wrong. Emergency rooms are the WORST!

Good news, Rich. Even though 9 hours in the ER had the boredom factor, at least you didn't get admitted. Hopefully your own doc will get things figured out.

Great news Rich, very glad it was not something more that you would have been admitted. Hope the family Dr. can figure something out.

CVH Baby!:

Straight Shave #296
Razor: 3/8 CVH 24 3/8
Soap: A&E Grecian Horse
Scuttle: Custom olive wood lathering bowl
Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: Razorock 400
AS/EdT: A&E Grecian Horse
Sound track: None

The Stuff: Yes you read that right 3/8”. After my weeks adventures I didn’t see any need to stop adventuring and that either means stunt shaving (I’ll leave that to Slash) or a relatively save but sporty razor. This is another one that was highly recommended by our Swedemeister Arne. I’ll be moving my CVH’s into the general population drawers soon so I see them and use them occasionally. I collect razors so that I may use them. Getting back on the Grecian Horse with cold lather today to see if it agrees with me better. Today’s lathering bowl is a bit small for the 400, but I’m sure 5hey will get the job done. With a quick inspection from Mittens, I turn to get my shave on.

The Shave: I lIke this brush! It’s heavy, but well balanced and I don’t mind the synthetic bristles one bit. The A&E works better with my water cold than warm and I find the fragrance is growing on me! The little CVH is great for lopping off the corners of my overly wide mustache bringing it into 670-1 compliance. Three passes and I am as smooth as I need to be. Within striking distance of a BBS but not chasing it. I had thought if the “hoss” didn’t please me this time I would move him on, but I will add him to 5he stack.

Comments: SWMBO is dragging me outta the house for choir practice. I’ll be back shortly

Rich
