Looking forward to your impressions of the razor David!

Quick post of my first impressions as I didn't get to use it until today. I love the look! That oversized head & all brass, it's a beauty! I've never used an SE, except for my Shick injectors. This is the first time using the wider Feather Pro blades. I used Club CBL, a known quality soap in my den, & a Rooney silvertip to paint the lather on. And we're off! I was wondering how different this Brass General would be compared to my injectors & de razors. It's a lot different, but then it's very similar too. Uhh? It sure takes a wider swath of beard with each pass. It cuts very quietly. I found the angle easily & enjoyed a very smooth, very efficient shave. At times it gave some feedback, but overall I enjoyed some nice Joe Pass guitar without the chatter of whiskers getting mowed down. It was smooth. It was extremely efficient. I don't know what I was expecting, but I didn't find it as different as I was expecting. My initial reaction is I'm underwhelmed. Not in a bad way. It delivered an exceptional shave. I just expected more of a learning curve, or something. I can't put my finger on it. If that's all there is to it, no wonder so many profess their love for SE shaving. It's an outstanding shave without sacrificing the enjoyable nature of shaving. So as I write this, maybe I'm not underwhelmed, perhaps I'm speechless. But I can't be, when was the last time I was speechless? Maybe the 1950's!

Sounds like it was a good first outing with Hier General, David...good to see that you're beginning to see the allure of the A/C style SE razors!

Shave #2 yesterday. An outstanding soap, CBL Outlaw was used with my Shavemac D01 silvertip. It doesn't take long to get used to the wider blade. I don't use the entire width in difficult areas or along the jawline. You maneuver & use parts of the blade on different parts of the face. I like the heft of the razor, it uses gravity to methodically shave. I found myself enjoying this shave much more than the first. The first shave I said I was underwhelmed or speechless. After this smooth, pleasing shave I can report it is an impressive razor that left me speechless last time, & this time. After my second shave, I found myself with an exceptional shave that I enjoyed all day. This is an impressive razor!

Now here's my beef: After 2 shaves I decided I wanted to acquire one of these razors because I'm enjoying it so much. It's not being produced! The company stopped making them to focus on rolling out a de razor. Josh, "You're killing me Smalls"!!! So I'll be checking BST & the bay for one. There currently aren't any for sale, but I'm on the hunt.

Question: Do se razors such as the old GEM razors shave as close & efficient as the General? If they do, which model/s? I haven't used a single edge except for the General & my Shick E, G, & I injectors. I like my injectors but the General is in an entirely different league.

I'm looking forward to my third shave today. Thank you Josh for sharing this razor, & thank you Dave for organizing the pass around.

Yeah, we all knew that going into this. Just sucks when you see just how good it is. I'd like to find one as well. Not that I'm actively looking though. I'm sure it'll never happen. But I did enjoy it.

With all things, the only one who can answer that for you..... is you! Some people love the old GEMs and some hate them. You really just need to try a few for yourself.

Now, in my experience, they are two different animals. They take different blades, so the experience is different. There is one "GEM style" razor that I would personally put up there as being close, and that is the Ever-Ready Streamline. I love that razor and do get similar results.

Great stuff David! Yeah, it's a bummer that they aren't producing these any more; I lucked out on the bay. They do pop up occassionally in the BST's, however.

Thursday's Shave
Using CBL Fresh Vetiver I had a wonderful lather. Boy, CBL is, in my opinion, the best soap. I've got several & none disappoint. On the contrary, they all perform superbly! Anyways, on to the shave.

Looking back on my first days report where I stated I'm underwhelmed, I'm now wondering who wrote that. This razor is great! I love the weight. At over 3 ounces, it is substantial in my hand. The handle on the first day I was concerned about it slipping due to the smooth brass finish of the handle. Now I'm comfortable using it & like the smooth handle. It is a well-balanced razor so it doesn't get heavy in my hand or cumbersome to maneuver. I navigate around my jaw-line & adams apple just fine with the over-sized artist club blade. I even got in a Gillette slide on my chin today. This razor cuts smoothly & efficiently. There is hardly any audible feedback to go along with the smooth gliding sensation of the blade, so at the end of a pass I rinse & wonder how my face got that smooth. After several shaves with this razor, I am now going to be looking to get one. I guess that's a bit of a turnaround from being underwhelmed initially.

I've PM'd sskim3 to get his address. Once I hear from him I'll package it up & send it on. This has been a most enjoyable razor. Thank you Josh! Thank you Dave!

Great report David! Hopefully you won't have to wait too long to find one in the wild/BST/Bay...

I need some guidance please. I PM'd sskim3 2 days ago asking for his address to ship the General to him. I haven't gotten a reply from him. I looked up his recent activity & he hasn't been on TSC since his last post 17 days ago. Prior to that he was on Jan. 9. I won his pif for the Captain's Choice gift card, so I want to give him a chance to get back to me. How long do I wait to hear back before I ship to the person after him?

I'll throw this out to everyone for comments, but I am especially interested to hear from 2 people: 1) Josh, the owner of the razor, & 2) Dave in Ky as he is the organizer of the pass around.

I would say give it til Sunday night so he has the weekend to get back to you and if not heard from him by then, reach out to Doug and see if he's ready. If so ship to Doug with Doug contacting Tom right away to get his info so t's ready when he's done. I thought I had Tom's info but seem to have misplaced it.

Will that work for you Dave?
