Day 2 of learning straight razor shaving. My strop showed up this afternoon and once I found a place to hang it I did 40 laps on each side. It’s 2.5 inches so I took it slow and made sure each stroke cover the whole blade. The edge felt pretty good to my uneducated face. I should have kept at it with the CBL Master Barber, but WCS Grapefroot kept calling my name. It’s not as slick and I ended up breaking the lather a bit trying to thin it enough. It’s plenty slick for DE but I won’t be reaching for it when I break out the straight again... probably. Four passes total and I ended up near BBS after a quick cleanup with the Gibbs.

Soap slickness was the biggest surprise for me learning to use a straight. Thankfully after a while it doesn't matter as much, but in the beginning, you've got to use your slickest soaps for sure.

Great shave tonight. No nicks or weepers. I’m fighting the urge to move on to module 101. I just have to keep telling myself to take it slow and enjoy the ride. I’m surprised at how quickly the razor is feeling less clumsy in my non-dominant hand.

Amen...plenty of time, just enjoy it! I also made myself learned to be ambidextrous with each style of razor. Makes things so much easier!

I'm ambidextrous with my DE. But I gotta tell you, I'm starting to get the straight razor itch. I may pull the trigger and try them out this summer. Ive just got to get past the fear.

You just have to take it slow at the start. My first straight shave was just one stroke on each cheek. It didn't take long to get past the fear that way.

Great advice. One short stroke, under the sideburns, is a great start. Easiest place to start, just be very, very aware where the tip of the straight is at all times.

Learning something new every shave when you're starting with the straight is a great feeling.Just remember not to get overconfident. That way leads to a bloody result lol.

I’m going to have to start practicing using both hand with the DE. Thankfully I shave at night and have plenty of time for all this learning stuff! :ROFLMAO:

I keep repeating to my self, “don’t learn this one the hard was, don’t learn this one the hard way”. :ROFLMAO:

Another great shave this evening. Got into a good rhythm stropping and the edge felt very smooth. I’ve been doing 40 laps on the suede side and 40 on the leather before and after each shave. Not sure if I’m stropping more than necessary but it’s working pretty well. The Oleo No.11 is my favorite scent I have in the den.

No such thing as stripping too much to my knowledge...well provided one is doing it correctly! :p

That's a lot of Stropping! But what do I know. Sounds like you are getting the straight shave down!
