"Will Dive for Shave Gear"
Active Duty
This will be my first attempt at any kind of journal. I got into wet shaving about 8 months ago. I started using the single blade the back of a Harry’s cart in a pinch and didn’t get quite as much irritation. Went to Target to pick up more cartridges and picked up a VDH instead and haven’t looked back since. Now my evening shave is my zen time before going to bed. It turned into a hobby quickly as having a young daughter doesn’t lend much time to turn wrenches on my motorcycles, let alone disappear into the canyons for hours on end during the weekends.

Today I had a few first, both in the shave realm and as a dad. Just killed a tub of soap for the first time (CBL ROS), completed 30 shaves on a single blade, saw my 22 month old face plant off the top of a seesaw and experience her first time throwing up (completely unrelated to the play ground incident). Not really sure where I’m going with any of this, just rambling. Overall it was a fairly good day. My sister in law and family stopped by for a little bit and it was nice catching up and watching the kids play. Went out for Pho with my girls after that and another trip to the park. Rounded out the day cleaning up vomit then a later than usual shave.

Israeli Personna (30)
Yaqi 24mm 2-band
CBL Tonsorial Roasted Oatmeal Stout

Took 4 passes and quite a bit of buffing to get a near BBS result. Just a touch of irritation on my neck, not terrible but I’m really looking forward to loading up a fresh blade.

Great first entry, DS! Nice photo w/excellent gear.

Active duty Navy? Coast Guard? Regardless, thank you for serving.

Wow 22 months without puking? That’s a long run. My daughter when though several months of puking up one full feeding once a day. I got very good at taking apart the car seat to wash it.

Luckly she got her mom’s immune system! I think it was from all the junk food she had while playing with her cousins.

Thanks! I’m navy. 14 years into it.
I was six years active Navy, first onboard a carrier (Coral Sea - Midway class, later sold for scrap), then here in Pittsburgh as the advertising and PR guy for the recruiting district. I was a JO, journalist, now known as a Mass Media Specialist. You know you're getting old when your rating and ship are delegated to the junk pile, and your old base (NAS Alameda) has been sold to private developers!

Thank you for your service. We had UDT divers on the carrier, whom I got to know a little bit. Crazy bunch - even our Marines didn't mess with them. One day in Japan one of our divers went into a bar where Americans were clearly unwelcome, and when refused a drink, he proceeded to fight with every person there, rumored to be about 10 or 12 people. He was the only one left standing, which made it easy for the Shore Patrol to spot him and haul him back to the ship in Yokosuka, where he enjoyed the brig for a few days. He was a legend from that day forward.

I always love a good Sea Story! Sounds like much hasn’t changed over in Yokosuka over the years. Lol. I’ve been very lucky to spend quite a bit of time all over the Pacific flying from job to job when on the deployment cycles. I’ve got plenty of stories I should probably wait to shave until I’ve retired too.
We like when we get an MC attached to us, especially the ones that went through SCUBA school. Always nice to have someone who remembers to take the good pictures and can write better than a 4th grader.
I used to drive out to Pittsburg quite often before I went into the Navy. We would visit some friends that were going to college there. I’ve always like it there but I can’t put my finger on why.

Pittsburgh is a small-medium sized city with zillions of unique neighborhoods, so it can feel like a village. The college neighborhood (Oakland) is like that. I'm not a native, but have lived here 40 years and can't imagine living anywhere else. It's comfortable, housing is affordable, and it's a safe place to raise your family. Great bike trails through and around town now, too.
I'm a nurse who graduated college here, worked at a handful of hospitals before settling into the VA hospital nearly 16 years ago. Love working with vets, it's a real privilege. My father was career USCG and a Merchant Marine WWII vet, so I was a CG brat most of my childhood. Military life can be good if you do it right. Good for you!

So after OBF and finishing the tub of ROS I felt a bit lost in what to use for tonight’s shave. I wanted to give the Lupo a good evaluation with a fresh blade, but the Kamisori was calling my name. I also decided I would finish the half empty samples sitting in the cabinet. I picked the little container from the top of the stack and it was A&E Asian Plumb. This would be my 3rd open blade shave. It felt super awkward for all 3 passes but I ended up with a DFS result and didn’t dare to go in for any clean up. My face is a little sore, but much better than the first two shave with the Kamisori, and much less blood too! I’ll have to put this into rotation and find some videos to watch to get comfortable wielding the open blade.

Over all today was quiet and rather uneventful. Tomorrow my wife is taking our daughter for an interview for a pre-preschool program that is like an educational stay and play twice a week. Hopefully she gets a spot and we can get her around more kids her age and a little older.

Thanks dude! I’m keeping my fingers crossed. When I first move out here to California I was somewhat baffled that the schools in this area almost looked like prisons with all the high fences and heavy locked gates. A far cry from what I grew up with in Pennsylvania for sure!

Hope the pre-preschool appointment goes well! Gone are the days of “here’s your local neighborhood school, go there, the end” lol :ROFLMAO:
Make me glad I grew up when I did. It was simpler then, but children these days know no other kind of life. Makes me wonder what my parents may have thought when they were raising four young children in the '50s and '60s. Did they lament the loss of simpler times, too? I imagine they did.

Shave 4 with an open blade this evening. Ended up with a near BBS result, but as what cost! Blood was spilled. Gave myself a nice nick near the corner of my mouth and put it came. Broke out the styptic, sealed it up and kept on truckin. After the 3rd pass can a quick rinse I noticed 6-7 more weepers scattered around. I think I’ll give the Kamisori a break for a few days and focus on the Lupo for the rest of the week.
