Hope you’re up to snuff soon!

Involved is an understatement lol. I know some folks find it zen...I dunno lol, even the little I did with balsa strops was tedious. Hope it’s a worthwhile journey for you!
I think I’ll enjoy doing it. I just need to take the leap. I’m sure it’ll happen soon.

There's no such thing as over researching. I'm still doing research on stones and it's been a year long process. @MilkCrate helped me out with his method of using lapping film, which worked perfectly for me to start out with. But at the end of the day everybody does things a little differently.
I’ll definitely be starting out with lapping film. I’ll stick with that for a while until I’m comfortable with dropping some coin on some stones.

SS Lupo
Sputnik (?)
Simpson PJ2 Super
Stirling Hipster Soap and Splash

Great shave tonight. The more I use Stirling, the better my lather gets with it. This stuff is great. The Lupo loaded with a Sputnik is so so smooth for me. The PJ2 held quite a bit of lather. I probably had enough for 5 passes in there. Everything came together this evening and couldn’t have been better.

I'm starting back with straights after a few year layoff from them. I used to use a Norton 4k/8k, barber homes, Arks, but now I'm delving into lapping film.

How does the honing process compare between the stones and lapping film?

I'm still too new to film to make a decent comparison. Arks are very slow stones though. Film seems quite a bit faster.

My last few shaves have been fantastic. The only issue was the blade in the Gibbs was getting rough. It’s been in there for a while and I had to finally toss it after that shave. I need to get a 1/8” metal punch to notch the blades, but I keep kicking that can down the road. The lathers I’ve been getting from Stirling keep getting better and better. Our water is very hard and we get mineral build up very quickly but Stirling doesn’t seem to mind at all. I’d like to use LNCH Barber Shoppe more, but with it being a limited release scent it’s only going to get limited use to make it last. With a couple straight razors heading my way I’m getting excited to shave with a straight again. The tracking says it’ll arrive on Saturday, but I keep checking just in case they magically appear earlier than scheduled.
Not a whole lot to report on the home front. My daughter’s birthday is in about 2 weeks but with the social distancing it’ll be a quiet one. Work is getting busy and I’m getting eased into some additional duties. With all the uncertainty going on in the world, one very small bright spot for me is being able to get a nice long turnover into my new position.

I know it sounds cliché, but they do grow up so fast.
