Another really nice shave tonight. No.11 is a great relaxing scent for me. The soap base and the splash a nice performers as well. The one big oops was when I was stropping the blade after the shave. I guess my hands were a little bit slippery and when I flipped the blade it went flying. This is why I can’t have nice things... Luckily it didn’t get me and the edge does look damaged. We shall see how it feels tomorrow though. Might be some full DE shaves until I get my grandfather’s razor back from be worked on.

Had to bench the Boker after last night’s mishap. I took a few strokes, it was tugging and rough then the blade skipped and drew blood. I picked up the Kamisori loaded with a Feather Pro Super and it was smooth sailing from then on out.I’m going back and forth on either sending it out to get honed, or picking up some supplies to do it myself. Honing is something I’ll have to learn sooner or later so it’s probably not a bad time to learn.

Wow I am sorry about that. I just ordered some lapping film for me to use on one of my straights. I decided I would send two off to get honed by someone who knows what they are doing and then hone my cheaper one myself. That way I have a correct example to compare my work to.

Ouch, that looks like it bit ya pretty good.

I started out on lapping film. It’s cheaper and will deliver solid results consistently.

Tough luck man! I feel your pain on that one. Luckily, almost any damage to a straight can be fixed. I'm liking your Lupo though!

Sorry about the cut. I have an awful habit of only reading the last couple of journal entries, but I thought I saw that the Boker was your grandfather's. How lucky for you. I'm not generally attached to "stuff," but even I wouldn't consider learning to hone on my grandfather's razor. You might wind up putting more wear on the edge than you intend. Anyway, if I'm way off base here, sorry, that's what happens when I'm lazy and don't read enough entries. Good luck.

After sleeping in it, I’m going to do the same thing. I have my other straight being restored and should have it back next week. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you order the lapping film from?

It got me pretty good. Luckily it sealed up quicker than I expected it to. Lapping film is the direction I’m going in, maybe some stones a little down the road.

Visually inspecting the blade I can’t see any damage. Everything looks straight to my eye. I’m thinking I just compromised the cutting edge. Tim put a really nice edge on it before he sent it my way. Thanks Don, the Lupo is just a fantastic razor. It’s the closest to a Wolfman I’ll ever get.

Hey Brew, the Boker came from Tim as a practice razor. I completely agree with not wanting to mess up my Grandfather’s razor. It’ll be a long long time until I do anything besides shaving and stropping that one. I have it being restored right now and have it slated for my first SR shave without any help from a DE. It’ll be a special shave for sure. Probably bring out his WWII photo and put on the counter for that one.
