Straight Razor Shave #322

Razor: Allegany Instrument Corp. WP
Brush: RazoRock BC Silvertip Plissoft Synthetic
Soap: Arko Shaving Stick
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Aquva Velva Original Sport
Cologne: Lalique Encre Noire Pour Homme EdT

Decided to use a shave stick today. You know Arko really makes a great lather. I know that some don't like the scent, but to me is just soap scent, nothing unpleasant. Wet the brush, gave it a little squeeze, wet the end of the Arko and rubbed it on my beard. Then worked up a great lather with the BC.

3 passes and some clean up with the AIC. No nicks, weepers, and a little alum sting for a BBS shave. A great shave!

Finished a nice splash of the Sport. Followed that with some of the Laliqaue Encre Noire sample that Chris H. aka @cmh737 scent me. This isn't a bad scent, but for some reason, I'm just not sold on it. I'd describe it as a musky, woody, vetiver. I got about 6 hours longevity, with average silage.

I've been getting ads on my facebook page for Outlaw Soaps solid cologne, so I decided to order their sample pack.

Soap: Soap Commander Renewal
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Derby City Chop Shop Winter Reserve Small Batch Shave Tonic
Cologne: Outlaw Soaps Blazing Saddles Solid Cologne

Went with Soap Commanders Renewal today. A very nice fourgere scent. More on the floral side, but not too flowery. Whipped up a typically great lather with the Wolf Whiskers brush.

3 passes and some clean up with the Fatboy and I'm BBS+ with no nicks, weepers, and just a barely noticeable alum sting. A most excellent shave!

Finished with some of the Small Batch Shave Tonic. Okay 1st of all I love the looks of this bottle, however there is a huge opening and the top is a cork. When I cut the wax the top moved up about 1/4 inch. It would not stay seated. I have put a rubber bad around the top and bottle to keep it seated. I'm not even sure if the finger as a restrictor would work on this bottle, I didn't try it. they included a medicine dropped with the bottle, so I used it. Okay the scent of this Tonic is awesome! Bay Rum, bourbon, just a hint of vanilla, and a nice spicy scent. Performance is great. My face feels fantastic. Followed this with the Blazing Saddles solid cologne. According to Outlaw Soaps website: "Smells of leather, sandalwood, gunpowder, sage, and campfire." Yeah I'll go with that. I pretty much get all those scents. I do like this scent, but I haven't put it on the must buy list. I got about 4 or 5 hours longevity. Silage is good.

Soap: Furbo Vintage Blue Soap
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Fubo Vintage Blue After Shave
Cologne: Outlaw Soaps The Gambler Solid Cologne

Another hot day forecast for us here in North Alabama today so I went with a "cooling soap". Fubo Vintage Blue has about all of the menthol I want in a soap. Nice "blue" scent. Easy to load and lather. Great Slickness, good cushion/gluide, and good residual slickness.

3 passes with the Mentor and I'm BBS+ with no nicks, weepers, or alum sting. A great shave to kick off the work week!

Finished with the matching after sahve and then rubbed on some of The Gambler solid cologne. According to Outlaws website: "Smells of good bourbon, old-fashioned tobacco, and a little leather." Pretty much sums it up. I got about the same 4 to 5 hours longevity. I like this scent, but again not going on the must buy list just yet.

Razor: Geo H. Weyer Vulcan Steel
Brush: Paladin Chief 26mm Brair
Soap: Penhaligon's Sartorial
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Paladin Shaving Aftershave Balm
Cologne: Penhaligon's Sartorial EdT

Been a while since I gave this soap a use, the scent appealed to me today, so it was selected. Unfortunately Penhaligon's soaps don't perform no where near as well as their colognes do. I was able to get an good lather, but nothing to write home about. The scent however is Sartorial and it is awesome. A good 2 of 5 on the puck, strength wise and a 2.5 lathered. Above average slickness, okay cushion/glide, and so so residual slickness. No stability issues.

3 passes and some clean up with the Vulcan and I'm BBS with on slight weeper and a little alum sting. Good Shave!

Finished up buy giving a spritz of the Sartorial on the Paladin balm mixing them in my palms and the applying to my face. Man this Paladin balm works great for that and my face feels great! Finished with a few vasilis of the Sartorial and I'm smelling great!

Time for a "Fine" shave! American Blend is a great scent and the performance of Fine products are Excellent. Whipped up an excellent lather and proceeded with the shave.

Just too sleepy this morning to use a straight so I went with the Super Adjustable. 3 passes with just a little clean up and I'm BBS+ with no nicks, weepers, or alum sting. A great shave!

Finished with a good splash of the after shave and then some spritzes of the EdT. Yeah that it s "Fine" shave indeed!

Cologne: Bouchereon Pour Home EdT

This soap was selected today somewhat because I thought the scent would pair with the Bonchereon cologne. I was right, it paired nicely! Of course I had to used the SV brush with the SV soap, right? Whipped up an excellent SV lather, using the SV method, well what else, right?

3 passes and some clean up with the Wacker. One slight weeper, and some alum sting, but in the end a nice BBS+ shave.

Finished with the matching after shave and the some of the Bouchereon EdT. Another one of the samples that Chris H. aka @cmh737 scent me. Once again thanks Chris! Okay I love this scent. This is going on the must buy list! According to Bouchereon's website: "The citrus and aromatic freshness is followed by vivid fougère notes with a subtle woody accent for a man with universal and timeless charm." I can't describe it any better than that. Got a good 9 hours longevity and good silage.

Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Don Draper Blue After Shave
Cologne: Paco Rabanne 2nd Edition (1984-1994) Eau De Toilette

Decided on an "Old School" soap today and went with the De Vergulde. Great performing soap! Made a lather with the Whipped Dog brush and proceed to to get my shave on.

3 passes with the Hess and I'm BBS+ with no weepers, but Mr. M did make an appearance. Got a little love bite on the lower left cheek. Nothing that the alum can't take care of. Still a good shave!

Finished with a splash of the Don Draper and followed that with some Vintage Paco Rabanne courtesy of Chris H. Okay this is definitely more "Paca Rabanneish" that the current version. All the scents just seem to be more forward, in your face, so to speak. At this point I like it better that the modern.

Straight Razor Shave #326
3rd Anniversary of 1st time using a shaving soap.

Razor: Hess 44
Brush: Semogue Excelsior 830 Boar
Soap: Williams Mug Shaving Soap (Modern)
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: The Original Sailor Jerry Spiced Navy After Shave
Cologne: Paco Rabanne 2nd Edition (1984-1994) Eau De Toilette

A puck of modern Williams Mug Shaving Soap was the 1st shaving soap that I ever used. So to commemorate that event it was selected for today's shave. Nice to use Williams every once in awhile, just so I don't loose my "Williams Lathering Mojo". Whipped a great lather with the Semoque Boar with just a little effort. The residual slickness wasn't as good as it has been, but still okay.

3 passes with the Hess produced a very nice BBS shave with no nicks or weepers and just a little alum sting. A nice shave!

Finished with the Sailor Jerry After Shave. Okay I really dig this scent! It's like Clubman meets Virgin Island and Master Bay Rum with the Clubman being a little more noticeable. The face feel is excellent. Unfortunately I only got about 2 hours of longevity. I spritzed some of the 2nd Edition Paco Rabanne on the pulse points. Hey that's a really nice pairing.

Brush: Paladin Chief 26mm Brair
Soap: Paladin Shaving Crossroads
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Derby City Chop Shop Small Batch Shave Tonic Winter Reserve
Cologne: Outlaw Soaps Fire In The Hole Solid Cologne

Been awhile since I used one of the Paladin Shaving Soaps, so Crossroads was selected. This is a top notch soap! Excellent performing lather. Easy to load and whip up. The scent of this soap is Tobacco Leaf, Sandalwood, Menthol. The menthol effect is at my limit on such also. Strength of scent is a 2 of 5 in the jar and a 2.5 of 5 lathered. Too bad these soaps are no longer available.

3 passes with the Twinworks for a nice BBS shave. One slight weeper and just a tad bit of alum sting. A very good shave!

Finished with the Small Batch and the rubbed on some of the Fire in The Hole. From Outlaw Soaps website: " Smells of campfire, gunpowder, sagebrush, dirt, bacon, and whiskey." Again this isn't a bad scent but probably my least favorite of the 3. Don't plan on this going on the buy list.

I figured I'd use a shave stick today and Speick was chosen. Love me some Speick! Wet the stick, rubbed it on my beard and then used the Asylum to work up a lather. Great performing lather! Easy to make a lather using this stick as with every stick that I've used.

Wasn't in a straight mood today so I grabbed the Ball End Tech. 3 passes and some clean up and OUCH, yeah Mr. M visit and with a Tech no less. Nice little racing stripe on my the rear of my mid neck area. No seepage and the alum took care of it. No alum sting other than that. A BBS+ shave.

Finished with a good splash of the Speick after shave and then some spritzes of the Cerruti 1881. Not a bad pairing at all!

Straight Razor Shave #328

Razor: Buck Salient #138 of 250
Brush: Turn-N-Shave (unlabeled) Gold and Black with Tuxedo Synthetic Knot - 28mm
Soap: Ariana & Evans St. Barts
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Aqua Velva Sensitive 5 in 1 After Shave Balm
Cologne: Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit De L'Homme EdT

This is one of the soaps that was in the lot I purchased. I've never used an A&E soap before. The scent of this soap is coconut, lime, and rum. It was inspired by Creed's Virgin Island Water. The strength of scent is a 2.5 of 5 in the tub and 3 to 3.5 lathered. I like this scent. Performance wise this is a really great soap! Used the SV method and the Turn-N-Shave had no problem loading and making a lather. Excellent slickness, great glide/cushion, and great residual slickness. No stability issues. The Tuxedo knot performed as expected. I like the weight and feel of this handle also. FYI This brush is almost worth what I paid for the entire lot! I think I got a good deal!

3 passes with the Buck produced a BBS+ shave with one slight nick on the right rear neck below the ear and a tiny weeper on the chin. A little alum sting. Still a great shave!

Finished with the Aqua Velva Balm. You know this is really good performing balm and the scent is so light you can pair it with anything. A few vasilis of the La Nuit De L' Homme EdT. I like this scent!! The scent profile is Top Note: cardamom; Middle Notes: lavender, bergamot, and Virginia cedar; Base Notes: Caraway and vetiver. I kinda get some of the notes that they say are in it, but nothing really stands out to me, it all just blends together nicely. Great longevity, I got over 9 hours and silage is good.

Soap: Cold River Soap Works Select Vetiver Fresco 2.0
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Barbasol Brisk After Shave
Cologne: Alt. Fragrances Sovereign No. 25

This is another of the soaps that was in the the lot that I purchased. My 1st time using a Cold River Soap Works soap. The scent of this kinda of complex, not just Vetiver. I'm going to describe it as a clean and fresh with a soft vetiver, puts me in the mind of fresh laundered sheets. Cold River Soap Works website says: "Developed as a cologne type fragrance, complex and beautiful. Vetiver oil blended with hydrosols and other essential oils including sage, Spanish rosemary and cedar wood bring notes of fragrant green herb's with a heart of wood. Fresh, clean, lively, green and complex!" Maybe now reading that I get a little sage, but I don't get any wood notes at all. Strength of scent in the tube is 2 of 5 and lathered is a 3 of 5. I do like this scent! Performance wise is great. Excellent slickness, great glide/cushion, great residual slickenss. Used the SV method and it was easy to load and lather. No stability issues.

3 Passes with Grandad's razor and I'm BBS. No nicks and one slight weeper. Just a little alum sting on the neck. A great shave!

Finished with a good splash of the Brisk and then a few Spritzes of the Sovereign No. 25. From Alt. Fragrances' webstie: " Inspired by Millésime Impérial.... At the heart of the scent, fresh iris and marine accord combine with sultry base notes of amber, sandalwood and musk. The effect is given extra dimension with citrus top notes, creating an overall effect that’s both fresh and sophisticated." This isn't a bad scent to my nose, but I'm not putting on the buy list just yet.

Another new to me soap maker from the lot purchase. Sudsy Soapery Almond & Vanilla. The scent is well almond and vanilla, heavier on the vanilla to my nose. I like it, nice and simple. Strength of scent is a 2 of 5 in the tub and a 2.5 lathered. Performance, WOW this is one of the easiest to lather soaps I've ever used. Using the SV method, I loaded the brush, easily, then went to the scuttle and starter to whip up the lather and BOOM lather. Great slickness, glide/cushion, and residual slickness. No stability issues.

3 passes and some clean up with the Princess and I'm BBS. No nicks or weepers and some pretty good alum sting on the lower left and right neck. A good shave!

Finished with a good splash of the Clubman and followed that with some spritzes of the Paco Rabanne. YEAH! That works! I do find the vintage Paco Rabanne to be more in your faceish, for like of a better description, and not in a bad way at all.

Cologne: Alt. Fragrances Caribbean Water No. 52 EdP

New to me scent from Black Ship Grooming Co. According to their website Calypso's Curese is: "Made from a mysterious blend of Oud, Green Herbal Scents, Birchwood, Amber, Rain and Ozone." I don't really pick out any individual scents but I do like it. Strength of scent is a 2.5 of 5 in the tub and a 3.5 lathered. Typically great Blackship performance.

Was just in a DE mood today. The Birth Year Razor did and PolSilver SI did a great job moving down a 2 day growth. 3 passes and some clean up. No nicks or weepers, and just a little alum sting on the lower left neck. It was being stubborn for some reason. A great BBS+ shave.

Finished with the Myrsol F./Extra and the some spritzes of the Caribbean Water. According to their website: "...inspired by Creed Virgin Island Water, encapsulates the heart of the Caribbean Sea, with depth, soul and an intense dose of the exotic.
The evocative scent of hibiscus forms the heart of this eau de parfum, combined with complex ylang ylang and jasmine. A note of machismo is introduced with tropical wood and coconut, while mandarin and lime offer a hint of freshness."
As I've never smelled Creed, I'll have to take their word for it. I do like this scent and it will more than likely be put on the buy list.

Tallow & Steel is another new to me soap maker. The scent of this soap is according to their website: "Ylang Ylang, Katrafay, Vanilla, Rose Geranium, and Ravensara". I don't really care for this scent. Strenght of scent is s 2.5 of 5 in the tub and 3.5 lathered. Used the SV method as per norm and had no issues loading the soap. I need to use this soap again with less bloom water and see if that makes a difference in the thickness of the lather, it was almost runny, but still have great slickness, and good glide/cushion. Residual slickness was okay, nothing to write home about. No stability issues.

Went with another of the soaps that was in the lot that I purchased recenlty. New to me maker Siliski Soaps. According to their website the scent profile is: "Lemon, Rosemary, Dark Patchouli, Sweet Marjoram, Black Pepper, Oakmoss". I get the patchouli, and oakmoss, I don't the lemon but more of just a light citrus, and a slight rosemary note. Very nice, outdoors in the the woods kind of scent, I like it. Strength of scent is a 2 of 5 in the container and a 2.5 lathered. I scooped an almond sized amount out and smeared on the interior bottom of the scuttle. I dripped a little water on it and let it sit while I showered. I didn't dump any of the water, just grabbed the damp brush and started whipping. I had no issues whipping up a great lather. The slickness, cushion/glide, and residual slickness are great! No stability issues.

Elevate Grooming is a new to the market maker that I was fortunate enough to meet in a facebook group. He sent me some a couple of samples a few weeks before he opened his online Etsy shop. They both performed great and I had to have this which a slightly better version of the latest sample he sent me. Manly Man scent is described as a "...a light fragrance with citrusy highlights and woody undertones of a barbershop scent, accompanied by a hint of freshly ground coffee.". So I'd describe it as a chocolate chip cookie barbershop scent. An intriguing scent that I like. Strength of scent is a 2 of 5 in the tub and a 3 of 5 lathered. Great performance in all the categories! Using the SV method I had no issues whipping up a lather.

Side note here, does anyone know of an actual coffee scent soap? All of the ones I have smelled have been more mocha latte or chocolatey scent than coffee.

3 passes and some clean up with the wacker for a BBS shave with no nicks or weepers and just a hint of alum sting. A great shave!

Finished up with a good splash of the Proraso Red and some spritzes of the Huron. Yeah that combo works!

This is another of the soaps that was in the lot that I purchased. I have used this maker before, but it was before he changed his product line name. This used to be Sapone Di Paolo. So far as I know all he changed was the name and the names of the scents. Performance was great, just as I remember the Sapone Di Paolo being. The scent is just as described, but with a little more thrown in. From their website: "Amber and oak mixed with a bit of sweet patchouli. Touches of bergamot and eucalyptus top this off for an earthy, manly scent." I can't describe it any better. Strength of scent is a 2.5 of 5 in the tub and 3.5 lathered. No issued at all using the SV method to whip up a lather.

Just wasn't in a straight mood today, so I grabbed the Maggard handled Tech. 3 passes and some clean up for a nice BBS+ shave. No nicks, weepers, or alum sting.

Soap: Chiseled Face Cryogen Shave Soap
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Madame Scodioli Aged Bourbon Aftershave
Cologne: Madame Scodioli Aged Bourbon Scented Balm

Yet another one of the soaps from the lot that I purchased. Cryogen, or as I called it  HOLY &%#?{^* MENTHOL BATMAN:oops::eek:. This is the mentholistly soap that I've ever used. No seriously, darn near made my eyes water😰. The scent is Menthol, and lots of it. Don't stick you nose in the tub and inhale, unless you have a head cold, it'll clear your sinuses right out! Needless to say this is my 1 and last use of Cryogen! Too much menthol for me. Performance wise other than not being able to see through the tears and not feel my face due to the cold, was typically great Chiseled Face, as expected.

3 quick passes with the Vulcan and I skipped the clean up, still some how managed a BBS- shave. A good result but not an enjoyable shave. Seriously, call me a wuss, but I considered rinsing this lather off and using something else! However I manned up and finished the shave. If you are searching for a strong menthol shave, search no further IMHO!

Finished up with the Madame Scodioli combo, so at least I'm smelling great!

Straight Razor Shave #334

Razor: Union Razor Cutlery Co.
Brush: Stirling Soap Co. Finest Badger Shave Brush - 26mm
Soap: Stirling Soap Co. 2019 Dirty South Shavers Meetup Soap
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Stirling Soap Co. 2019 Dirty South Shavers Meetup Aftershave Splash
Cologne: Azzaro Chrome EdT

The Dirty South Shavers facebook Group had their annual meet up recently and this was the official meetup soap and aftershave scent that Stirling developed for them. This scent is inspired by Azzaro Chrome and it's a pretty good match actually. I wasn't able to attend the meetup, but I did purchase the set as soon I heard it was on Stirling website, along with a few more items, gotta make that free shipping right? Typically great Stirling performance as expected.

3 passes with Grandad's and some clean produced a slight weeper on the mid left neck and some alum sting on the lower neck in general. Overall a great shave!

Finished with the splash and them some vasilis of the Chrome. Yeah a very nice match for sure!

I'm going to take last weeks SOTD pics here in a bit, plus pics of what I took from @Spider 's Mystery Traveling Box. Oh and pics of what I'm putting in the box, but you can't see those ;)!
