Straight Razor Shave #309
Razor: Curtin & Clark Cutlery Co. Our Princess
Brush: Saponificio Varesino SV 2.0 Shaving Brush in Ebony Wood
Soap: Asylum Brush Work Colonia Saponificio Varesino Beta 4.1 Soap
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys Witch Hazel
After Shave: Myrsol F./Extra After Shave
Cologne: Versace Eros EdT
Been meaning to use this soap for some time, another on that just kept getting pushed aside. This is a very nice scent! It is made by Saponificio Varesino so it's performance is excellent. From BullGoose's website the scent description is: "Bergamot, Citrus, Lemon, Bitter Orange, Sweet Orange, English Lavender, Bulgarian or Damascene Rose, Verbena, Clary Sage, Rosemary, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Oakmoss." Using the SV method I had no issues making an excellent lather, as expected.
3 passes with the Our Princes and I'm BBS with no nicks, weepers, and very little alum sting. A very good shave.
Finished with a splash of the F./Extra and followed that with the Eros EdT. A great pairing IMHO.
Setup 7-1-2019
7-3-2019
Razor: X2 Gillette Tech w/Maggard Razors MR9 Handle
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
Brush: Whipped Dog 24mm Synthetic
Soap: David Waxman's Formula #1
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Barbasol Pacific Rush After Shave
Cologne: L' Instant De Guerlain Pour Homme EdT
A member of a The Dirty South Shavers facebook group sent me a couple of his soaps to test. This sample is labeled Formula #1. This is a very nice smelling soap. The description that he sent me is: "Arabian White Mush, Old Tyme Barbershop, and Cherry Tobacco." I like this scent. I don't get the cherry tobacco, but I do get more of a cigar tobacco note. I'll describe this as a slightly musky, very slight powdery barbershop with just a hint of tobacco. The strength of scent is a 2 of 5 in the sample container and a 2.5 lathered. The scent lasts for the entire shave, fading just a little toward the end. This is a soft soap. I scooped some out and smeared it on the bottle of my scuttle and drizzled a little water on it. I let it sit while I showered. I didn't dump the bloom water, but went straight to lathering with a damp brush. I had no issue lathering the soap. The lather has great slickness, cushion/glide, residual slickness, and I had no stability issues. I had no issues with post shave feel, but that is not a biggie one way or the other for me, as I always us after shave. Overall this is great performing soap. I'm going to use it with a DE 1st and then the next use will be with a straight.
3 passes and some clean up with the Tech and I'm BBS+ with no nicks, weepers, or alum sting. A great shave!
Finished with a good splash of the Pacific Rush and the some vasilis of the L' Instant. That'll work!
Setup 7-3-2019
David also sent me a sample of a bath soap. Performance wise

Straight Razor Shave #310
Razor: CBLindsay Gold Dollar Mod
Brush: Whipped Dog 24mm Synthetic
Soap: David Waxman's Formula #1
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Davidoff Cool Water After Shave Balm
Cologne: Davidoff Cool Water EdT
I wanted to use Formula #1 with a straight razor. I decided to use the same brush and as I expected, using the same procedure as before, I the same results from the soap. I did push the water just a little bit to thin the lather just a tad for the straight.
3 passes and some touch up yielded a nice BBS shave. However I did have one slight nick due to me letting the toe get "loose". Nothing major, was pretty much stopped by the last pass. As expected some alum sting on the nick and more than expected on the neck, but not a home alone moment.
Finished with the Cool Water.

Straight Razor Shave #311
Razor: Wacker Allround Blonde
Brush: Stirling Soap Co. Finest Badger Shave Brush - 26mm
Soap: Stirling Executive Man
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Stirling Executive Man Aftershave Splash
Cologne: Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Man EdT
Executive Man was the scent for today's shave. A very nice take on the Creed Aventus scent. Not as fruity as the decant that I have. I do like this scent. Whipped up a great lather with the Badger as expected.
3 passes and some clean up with the Wacker and I'm BBS+ with two slight pin head sized weepers. Just a little alum sting. A great shave!
Finished with the matching splash and the some spritzes of the Club de Nuit Intense. A great pairing!
Strange I just noticed that the last part of one of my shaves was cut off mind sentence. The last part of SOTD 7-3-2019 should read: David also sent me a sample of a bath soap. Performance wise this is a good soap. As good as any that I've used. Nice lather, easy to rinse, and didn't dry my skin.
Warning Large Catch-up Posts Ahead!
Yes once again I have fallen way behind in my journal posts!

Brush: Whipped Dog 24mm Synthetic
Soap: David Waxman's Formula #3
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Old Spice After Shave
Cologne: Old Spice Cologne
As I had mentioned before, a member of a The Dirty South Shavers facebook group sent me a couple of his soaps to test. This sample is labeled Formula #3. The scent on this formula according to David is Sandalwood, Vanilla, Patchouli, Baby Powder, and Amberwood Moss. To me this all blends together for a earthy scent with a hint of powder. I like the Formula #1 scent better, but this isn't bad, I like it. Strenght of scent is also 2 of 5 in the container and a 2.5 of 5 lathered. The scent lasted for the entire shave. Again I used the same method as before. Scooped some out and smeared in the the bottom of my scuttle, dribbled a little water on it, and let it sit while I showered. I decided to use the same brush, razor, and blade as before. I didn't dump the bloom water, but went straight to lathering with a damp brush. This soap lathered easily and the performance was noticeably better. The biggest improvement to me was in the residual slickness area. To me Formula # is better than Formula #1 performance wise.
As I stated above I wanted to used the same razor and blade. 3 passes with the X2 and some cleanup produced a BBS+ shave with on nicks, weepers, or alum sting. A great shave!
Finished with some Old Spice. As I've said before, and I stole this from someone, "If it wasn't for Old Spice, most of us wouldn't be here."

After Shave: Stetson After Shave Lotion
Cologne: Stetson Cologne
Straight razor shave using David's Formula #3 and as expected using the same method but adding a little more water to thing the lather just a bit, I got the same great results.
3 passes and some clean up with the Gold Dollar. One minute weeper, no nicks, and just a tiny bit of alum sting on the neck and I'm BBS. Great Shave!
Finished with the Stetson and I'm good to go!

Razor: Rockwell 6S (R4 plate)
Blade: PolSilver Super Iridium
Brush: Wolf Whiskers Bishop "Party on Bourbon Street" with Elite Razor 28mm Manchurian White Knot
Soap: Chamber Shave Company Daddy-O
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Chamber Shave Company Daddy-O Luxury Shave Tonic
Cologne: Alt. Fragrance Executive No. 26 Eau de Parfum
The Chambers label caught my eye for this after work shave today. This a an excellent performing soap base and Daddy-O is inspired by Creed Aventus. A very nice take on the scent. Strength of scent is a 2.5 of 5 in the tub and a 3 lathered. Whipped up an excellent lather with ease with the Wolf Whisker brush and proceeded with the shave.
After a long and hot day at work I wasn't in the mood for a straight razor shave today, so I decided to use the Rockwell. Popped a fresh PolSilver blade in and 3 passes and just a tad bit of clean up latter, I'm BBS+. No nicks weepers, or alum sting. A great shave!
Finished with the Matching Splash and then a few vasilis of the Executive. Very nice paring!

Razor: Clyde72 Twinworks 50¾
Brush: Fine Accoutrements Classic Angel Hair Synthetic 20mm
Soap: Fine Accoutrements Italian Citrus
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Fine Accoutrements Italian Citrus After Shave
Cologne: Acqua Di Parma Colonia Intensa Eau De Toilette
Well something in my mind said today was a "Fine" day so Italian Citrus was chosen for the shave. What can be said about Fine Accoutrements soaps other than they are excellent performers in all categories. This scent is their take on the Acqua Di Parma Colonia scent, and it's a pretty darn good match! Whipped up a great lather using the SV method as usual and proceeded with the shave.
3 passes and a some clean up produced a nice BBS shave with a visit from Mr. Murphy! One slight nick, about 3/8" long on the upper left cheek. I came in too hot, nothing major, but it did require the alum block between passes to stop the seepage. Other than that it was a great shave.
Finished with the matching after shave and the a few vasilis of the Colonia Intensa. Yeah that definitely works!!

Headed to a "Gathering" of The Order of The Dram tonight. Should be a great time!
I'll post the picks next. Then stay tuned for Part 2 of the catch-up.
Well as I stated in the 1st part of the catch-up posts. The Order of The Dram had a gathering Saturday Night. Here is what was on the table.
I screwed up and took the 1st picture of with the back of the bottle of Willett facing the camera, so I added the one on the end showing the front.
Note the size of this cigar!!! It's the biggest I've ever seen in person. The bottle of Glenmorange is a 1.75L. Of course I had my TSC Glass to sample the offerings in.

Razor: Buck Salient #138 of 250
Brush: RazoRock BC Silvertip Plissoft Synthetic
Soap: RazoRock Santa Maria Del Flore Soap
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Speick Men After Shave Lotion
Cologne: Zcent Santa Maria del Fiore Eau De Parfum
I've been moving this soap around for a while now, as I was looking for other soaps and I decided it had been moved enough and it was time for a shave. Santa Maria Del Flore scent is according to Italian Barber's website: Tabacco Toscano Colonia; think Toscano cigar with hints of vanilla, amber and a backdrop of eucalyptus and menthol. Pretty much sums it up. A sweet tobacco scent with a background of eucalyptus. Nice scent! Strength of scent is a 2.5 in the jar and a 3.0 lathered. Typically great RazoRock Performance, as expected. Whipped up a great lather with the BC and time to shave.
3 passes with and some clean up with the Buck and I'm BBS+. Did manage a couple of slight weepers on the chin and a noticeable alum sting on the chin and neck. Still a great shave.
Finished with some Speick after shave and followed that with the matching Zcent EdP. Yeah that'll work.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Soap: A.J. Murray's Kentucky Bourbon Shaving Soap
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Madame Scodioli Aged Bourbon Aftershave
Cologne: Madame Scodioli Aged Bourbon Scented Balm
Okay so I was in a whiskey mood, since I was headed to the cigar lounge tonight and it is Whiskey Wednesday, so the A.J. Murray Kentucky Bourbon was selected, not so much for the scent, as while this is a nice scent and I do like it, I have never smelled a bourbon that smells like this. More caramel that any thing. Had an issue with the lather for some reason today. This soap has performed well for me the every time before. Nothing over the top, but a solid performer. For some reason today, I just didn't have the lathering dialed in right. Strange!
3 passes and some clean up with the Mentor and even with the lather issues, I managed to get a nice BBS nick, weeper, and alum sting BBS shave. Would have been a great shave if not for the lather issues, so a good shave.
Finished with the Madame Scodioli aftershave and balm (solid cologne). This is a great performing aftershave and I love the scent. Wish they made a shaving soap!

Well what the crap! I was attracted to this scent and this is an excellent performing soap, but I could not get a decent lather from it today!!! Am I loosing my lathering Mojo?? Has my water changed?? I don't know but I hope what ever it is, it goes away soon!! Love this scent.
Struggled with the lather and still managed to get a BBS- shave with not nicks or weepers and just a little bit of alum sting.
Finished with the matching aftershave and then a few spritzes of the Azzaro. Yeah that is a great pairing.

Whew!!! well that's a relief, I don't know what the issue was with the last 2 soaps, but hey Soap Commander to the rescue! Had not problem whipping up a great lather with the 13A▲ today. Love the scent of this soap!! And of course it had the typical Soap Commander performance! So lather issues solved, and I did nothing different, on with the shave.
3 passes with the Super Speed for a no nick, weeper, or alum sting BBS+ shave! Great shave today!
Finished with the Oriental Spice and then some of the Duke Cannon Bourbon, heck yeah! Great pairing.

Okay so as some of you know I work on a military base, Redstone Arsenal here in Huntsville, AL. As you may know Marshall Space Flight center is located here on the base. This is were a lot of the technology and hardware was develeloped and tested for the Mercury and Apollo programs. This were Dr. Wernher von Braun and his team were based and lived. A lot of testing still both NASA and Military are still conducted here. That being said I had to go into work early Friday Morning. We had to pull some large cables from one building to another, and the cable tray is on above ground and outside. So we were attempting to beat the heat. Anyhow my partner was on a ladder about 10 feet up, re-attaching the pull rope for the next pull as I was watching him I glanced to my right and saw this in the sky!!! Yeah I kinda did a triple take, and freaking just a little. Then I said to myself, well is it moving, nope stationary, is it some kind of portal that has opened up and are the lizard men going to start pouring out of it on there rocket sleds? Where heck are the Avengers!!
Then I realized what I was seeing. Any guesses?
The part of the story I left out was that I was operating a JLG Telehandler or Telescopic Boom Forklift at the time. I could only back up about 30 feet at a time and the pull was 175 ft. so my partner was retying the pull rope to the JLG so I could pull the next 30 ft in. For those of you that don't know what a Telescopic Boom Forklift is here is a picture.
As you can see it has an enclosed cab on it. What I was seeing was a reflection of a light mounted on the wall inside the building we were pulling the cable to, on the right side window of the JLG.
Part 3 of the catch up. Yes this is the last part!

Cologne: Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia Eau De Toilette
Another soap that I've been moving around to get to others, so I was in a lime kinda mood today and decided to go with the Taconic Lime. This is a very nice lime scent, a good 3 of 5 on the puck and doesn't really change that much lathered. Performance is good across the board. Whipped up a lather with the TSC brush and proceeded to the shave.
3 passes with Grandad's razor produced a very nice BBS shave. No nick, weepers, or alum sting.
Finished off with the Booster Iced Lime and followed that with the Salvatore Ferrangamo, a nice pairing.

After Shave: Proraso Green After Shave Lotion
After work shave and shower today. Knew I was going to be outside most of the day, so a shower before work was just counter productive. The weather did let off on the heat today though. So not too bad.
Just decided to use a cream today and the Proraso Green was the 1st one that caught my eye in the Den. Proraso is just good stuff. Whipped up a great lather and on to the shave.
The Wacker did it job and I did mine and the results were a very nice BBS+ shave. No nicks, one slight weeper, and almost no alum sting.
Finished with the Proraso Green after shave. No cologne needed as I was not leaving the house till tomorrow morning.

Cologne: Duke Cannon Proper Cologne Huron EdP
Back in a Lime mood today so CBL's Ghost Lime was called up to bat. Those who have used Chris's soaps know how excellent they preform, if you haven't well, what are you waiting for! Pick a scent and order a tub, you won't be disappointed IHMO! Whipped up an excellent lather and time to get my shave on!
The Slim and PolSilver combo did an excellent job and produced a BBS+ shave with no nicks, weepers, or alum sting. A great shave.
Finished with the Booster Aquarius and the a few spritzes of the Duke Cannon Proper Cologne Huron. According to Duke Cannon's web site: Huron Proper Cologne™ is an aquatic blend of ozonic marine, sandalwood, & rich vetiver. Smells like navigating the open waters without a cloud in sight. Does not smell like a retention pond in Florida. I'm not going to attempt to improve on that description. I do like this scent. I got a good 6 to 7 hours out of it. Projection is good.
Paired with the Aquarius nicely.

Well why not another lime scented shave? Azur Lime was chosen for today shave. This is the best performing cream that I have in my Den. Proraso is great but this Single Blade Line steps it up a notch IMHO. Whipped up a great lather with the Commodore and time to shave.
The Super Adjustable did a great job with the PolSilver blade to yield a BBS+ shave. Did manage a slight weeper on the chin, other than that no nicks or alum sting. A great shave.
Finished with the matching balm and then rubbed on some of the Seafarer. Yeah that works as a pairing.

Soap: Oz Shaving Co Foxville
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Humphreys
After Shave: Oz Shaving Co Foxville Post Shave Tonic
Cologne: Duke Cannon Proper Cologne Randolph EdP
I actually selected this soap to pair the scent with the cologne. Oz Shaving Co. is a great performing soap and Foxville is a very nice scent. From Oz's website: It has a dark base of oak and clove, warm mid-notes of pepper and allspice, and top notes of lime and anise. Strength of scent is a 3 of 5 in the tub almost a 4 of 5 lathered. Great slickness, cushion/glide, residual slickness, and no stability issues. The TSC 1st Anniversary brush had no issues whipping up a lather using the SV method.
3 passes and some clean up with the Vulcan Steel and I'm BBS with no nicks or weepers and just a little alum sting.
Finished with the matching aftershave. Great performing juice here. My face feels fine. A few spritzes of the Randolph. From Duke Cannon's website: Randolph is a sophisticated musk blend of fresh bergamot, lavender, & rich leather. Smells like fixing commodity pricing to build generational wealth. Does not smell like shopping for fake designer bags on Canal Street. Great pairing IHMO!
