Nice shaves Craig! Doesn't sound like the Wheat State Soap was really all that great. Seemed pleasantly average from your description. If you like that type of tobacco scent...check out Ballenclaugh Honey & Tobacco. The scent is amazing and it's a pretty decent performing soap.

I guess I'd forgotten or didn't know you were a pipe smoker as well. I need to get back out into the courtyard with mine. I have a couple that haven't even been used yet.

Nice set ups Craig, especially the well stocked #63 shave
Thanks Dave!

Thanks Don! Yeah it really didn't impress me much. Just a good average performing soap.

I haven't lit up a bowl in a while myself. Was thinking when I did that picture, I need to smoke my pipes more.

Had a small mail call.

Straight Razor Shave #219
Razor: Wacker Allround Blonde
Brush: Paladin Chief 26mm Brair
Soap: Soap Commander Commitment
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Soap Commander Commitment Aftershave Splash
Cologne: Caswell-Massey Sandalwood Cologne

Soap Commander has moved the Commitment scent into the core line and therefore there is an aftershave splash available also. This is a very nice sandalwood sent. Strength of scent is a 1.5 of 5 in the tub and lathered it opened up a little to a 2 of 5. Typically great Soap Commander performance.

A nice BBS shave with a weeper and some pretty good alum sting.

Finished with the matching splash. This is some good aftershave IMHO. Then a few spritzes of the Caswell-Massey and I'm good to go.

Glad you are using the Soap Commander AS splash. I haven't bought any yet but I do need to! I would like to get it in Fortitude I will need to spend some time and money on their site soon!

Razor: Delta Echo Crimson Tide Fatboy G1
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
Brush: Wolf Whiskers Bishop "Party on Bourbon Street" with Elite Razor 28mm Manchurian White Knot
Soap: Asylum Shave Works Royal Fougere
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Asylum Shave Works Royal Fougere Aftershave
Cologne: Penhaligon's English Fern EdT

Celebrating the Alabama Crimson Tide Victory over the LSU Tigers 29-0 ROLL TIDE!

I was in a fougere kinda mood today and this is the 1st soap I came to that satisfied that mood. The WW brush had no problem whipping up a great lather and then the Crimson Tide Fatboy delivered an excellent performance. 3 passes and some clean up resulted in a BBS+ shave. No nicks or sweepers and barely noticeable alum sting on the neck.

Finished with the matching AS and some vasilis of the English Fern. NICE!

Another small mail call. I ran across this soap on a facebook group. Thought I
'd give it a go.

FYI: I repackaged the samples. They were actually shipped in portion cups in bubble wrap.

Great shave and mail call Craig...though I am blind now because of your backdrop on your SOTD. Oh well, can't really say that much and I guess I will have to listen to another year of the Gumps being incredibly obnoxious. can't blame them...if we can't beat them...we really can't complain...

But there is next year!!!

Thanks Don! Well you can blame your team this week for it. Always friends Don! Even if you are an heck I have Tennessee friends.
Looking forward to hearing about those soaps!

And congrats on the win for the Tide.
I'll be posting about them as I used them of course. Thanks Chad!

FuzzyFace Soaps - another one I haven't heard of. Will be interested to read your reviews of them.

Razor: Rockwell 6S (R4 plate)
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
Brush: RazoRock Plissoft Bruce Synthetic
Soap: Fuzzy Face Soaps Spearmint
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Barbasol Pacific Rush
Cologne: Penhaligon's Edymion EdT

New soap maker today. I have 3 different samples of this makers soap, so I'll hold off on the soap review till the last one. The scent of this soap is well Spearmint. Smells like chewing gum, I kinda like the scent. It's supposed to have menthol in it, but I didn't get any. Strength of scent is a 3 of 5 in the tub. The scent kinda weakens as the shave progressed but still there.

Just wasn't in a straight mood today. 3 passes with the 6S and I'm BBS. Murphy did pay a visit though. Gave myself a pretty good nick on the chin on the ATG pass. I'm really, it was like the last stroke and OUCH! Curse you Mr. M!

Finished with the Pacific Rush and then a few vasilis of the Edymion. All in all a good shave.

1st Lather Fuzzy Face Soap Spearmint

Straight Razor Shave #221
Razor: Friends No Name straight and Grandad's Union Razor Cutely Co.
Brush: Simpson Duke 3 in Pure Badger
Soap: Fuzzy Face Soap Ancient Sedona
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Suavecito Whiskey Bar Aftershave
Cologne: Suavecito Oscuro EdT

2nd Fuzzy Face Soap Sample. The scent strength of this soap is a 1.5 of 5 in the tub and doesn't get any better on lathering, but it didn't fade any either. Very complex scent. I can't really pick out any individual notes in it. From the the makers website:

This fragrance is an Oriental Floral Amber. This sensual, deep scent was named for the famous city in Arizona, invoking days of old and a deeper, richer experience. It opens with green notes of Mandarin Leaf and Orange Blossom. Heart is heady night Floral, Bulgarian Rose and Vetiver. Dry down has sensual notes of Sandalwood, Bourbon Vanilla, Amber, Labdanum and Tonka Bean.

2 straights for this shave. Testing the edge that I put on a friends No Name Chinese razor. This razor would just glide over a cherry tomato, barely marking it at all. Guys I'm here to tell you, it took forever to set the bevel on this razor. I've repaired and set the bevel much easier and quicker on other razors. The Geometry looked to be ok, but the angle of this razor was no were near what it should have been. It was more like a knife edge. After honing I did see some uneven geometry. After about 4 hours on the DMT 600 and Shapton Prol 1K I did succeeded in getting the bevel set. I took it through the progress of 5K, 8K and 12K Shapton Pros and then finished on the Translucent Arkansas. Finial results were tree topping nicely. I'll give this edge an B+ to A-, but considering what I started with that is a WIN! I did my 1st pass with it and it did deliver good reduction. I didn't do the rest of the shave with it, I wanted to give it a Barbicide soak so I could give it back to him today.

The really bad thing is, he claims this razor was sold to him as shave ready at an AOS store. I really find it hard to believe that a AOS store even had this razor. My biggest concern is how many others have bought this $13 dollar razor kit as shave ready and then tried to shave with it! Now mind you he said he paid $65 for it. But I've found it on alibaba.com for $13 for a kit (box, brush, strop, and razor). This just makes me wonder how many have purchased sub standard razor, attempted to shave with them and failed. Thus turning them off to Traditional Wet Shaving. Such a shame.

Any how did the 1st pass with the Chinese razor and then finished with Grandad's razor. 3 passes and no nicks or weepers. Just a little alum sting.

Finished with the Whiskey Bar and the some spritzes of the Oscuro.

General Cigar Event at the cigar lounge tonight and guess what? I won the door prize! A very nice fire pit!

Straight Razor Shave #222
Razor: Geo H. Weyer Vulcan Steel
Brush: Maggard Razors 24mm Synthetic Shaving Brush, Marble Handle
Soap: Fuzzy Face Soap Blue Man
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Floid Black After Shave
Cologne: Armani Code EdT

My last sample of the Fuzzy Face Soaps. This scent is based on no longer available cologne that I've never heard of, Aquolina Blue Sugar and it seems it is on longer made. I do like this scent. Strength of scent is a 2 of 5 and 2.5 of 5 lathered. The scent lasted for the entire shave. From the soap makers website:

The base note of Black Patchouli blends perfectly with Orange Peel, Sparkling Mandarin, Coriander Leaves, Star Anise and Venezuela Tonka.

I've now used 3 samples of this soap. I smeared an almond sized amount of each of them into the scuttle and dribbled just a tad of water on them and let them soak. May have not been necessary as this is a very soft croap like soap. This soap lathers very easily. Slickness is great, glide and cushion is great too. However the residual slickness it just average at best. I pushed the water on this soap and didn't get any better residual slickness. The lather is very stable, until I put too much water into it. At this point and time I don't think I'll be buying a full sized soap for that reason. Too many soaps out there that perform in all categories.

3 passes yielded a BBS shave. No nicks or weepers and just a little alum sting on the neck.

Finished with Foild Black and followed with the Armani Code. A nice pairing.

Watching football in the lounge tonight. Alabama defeated Mississippi State 24 - 0. ROLL TIDE!

Great trio of shaves Craig. Very cool fire pit win!

You have the regular sized Bruce? I’m looking to get one for travel. How do you like it in comparison to any other synths you have? I enjoy the Big Bruce.
