Straight Razor Shave #161
Pre Shave: Urth Face Wash and Scrub
Razor: Allegany Instrument Corp. WP 5/8 cira 1920 to 1940
Brush: Omega S-Brush S10019
Soap: Proraso Red
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Proraso Red After Shave Lotion
Cologne: Caswell-Massey Sandalwood Cologne
For some reason I felt compelled to use the Proraso Red Soap today. Must have been because several others have used it in their journals in the last few days. Not too much to say about this soap. Its Proraso! The lather is easy and never disappoints. I added 3 drops of glycerin just to enhance the residual slickness a tad. The Omega whipped up a nice lather in no time and it's time to get my shave on.
Okay have you ever used a straight before and from the 1st stroke though, something isn't just quite right? Well that is what happened today. The AIC was cutting okay and it wasn't harsh, but something just didn't feel right. I just wasn't getting the reduction that I normally get. Now mind you after yesterday evening shave there wasn't a whole lot to work with. Finially after giving myself a little bite on the lower right neck on the XTG pass. I lathered back up and just didn't feel the mojo for the ATG. So I grabbed the Gillette Slim out for the stand and did the ATG pass. Just a little buffing and aside from the bite, which was minor, a BBS+ shave.
The alum confirmed a good shave, just a tad bit of sting on the neck and chin.
Finished with a splash of the Proraso Red. Then a few spritzes of the Caswell-Massey Sandalwood. Journal followers if you like the scent of Proraso Red, then this cologne is a great match IMHO. I'm at about 4 hours and the scent is still present.
As I was cleaning up and went to strop the AIC, it hit me what was wrong with the edge, I forgot to strop pre-shave. That was a 1st, but I'm sure won't be the last time for that to happen. That's what happens when you interrupt or get your pre shave ritual interrupted.

The other day I had decided it was time to get the bicycle ready for riding. I lubed the chain and went to air up the tires. The rear tire h
ad separated from the wheel. This is the 1st time that has happened. I've had this bike for at least 10 years, the tires are always low/flat after the winter, but the tire had never separated from the wheel before. Pump as I may, the tire would not inflate. I wet the tire around the wheel and it still didn't help. I then went to google to see how to seat tubeless tires. I found out I needed something that could deliver a large volume of air at once. They make several of these so I selected one based on reviews and ordered. I also ordered a set of new valve stems as I discovered that on mine the valve core was not removable. I also ordered a stand to mount on my work bench to hold the bike. I've always wanted one, just never got one.
Well the stems, Airshot, and stand came in today. After a trip to homedepot to get some screws, nuts, and washers. I drill the bench and mounted the stand. I removed the rear tire and took the tire off, WHAT THE CRAP???? A TUBE??? All this time I though I had tubeless tires. So the best laid plans of mice and men! The tube was 10 years old and it had just tore, not a hole but about a 1/4 inch slit/jagged hole. I didn't find anything in the tire. I didn't have time to get to bike shop before they closed and none of the other places had the correct size. Yeah I've ordered a couple of tubes. Looks like the ride will be delayed a few more days.
So now I'm just finishing up a Canimao cigar and enjoying some Single Barrel Knob Creek Bourbon on the patio at the cigar lounge. Hope everyone has a Great Mothers Day tomorrow!
