Great job with the Trans Ark. I wish the soap had performed better for you.

Nice shave all around.
Thnaks Doug! Yeah I was hoping for better.
Aww come on guys, food has been genetically engineered forever. Super strains of grains, disease resistant corn etc. That stuff isn’t found in nature.
Maybe so, I just had never noticed that on anything before.

Nice shave with a lackluster soap Craig! Thankfully the post shave products made up for it!

I have the Suavecito Whiskey Bar after shave and while I like the scent...it seems that it only lasts really for a few minutes and then it's gone. Unfortunately, the scent is a non-factor for me in those. It's a shame, because there is a place here locally that sells the stuff.

Now the Suavecito Premium Blend pomade...that is a different story. Some really good stuff, and is my pomade of choice!

Great review Craig!

Yeah the scent doesn't hang around long at all, and the other weird thing about it is the 1st time I used it I got like no menthol at all, the 2nd time a nice menthol effect, yesterday, barely any at all.

I agree the pomade is good stuff. I haven't used the Premium blend, I use the Firme,

Total sandalwood addict! I’ll be looking forward to you posting on that shave!

Good stuff Craig getting caught up, I have really enjoyed your shaves. As to the gum well let's just say I am glad I don't chew gum that often. I wonder what they do to it.

I'm glad to see that you were able to improve the bevel using the Ark. Do you think that diluting the Dan's oil was the ticket, or do you think it was the additional laps?

Catching up Craig and Interesting on the gum, Remember what they said about Soylent Green, LOL

All caught up, Craig. Interesting about the gum. Fortunately, I don't chew gum (it sticks to all my dental work), so not a factor for me. But it does give one pause for other products.

The genetic engineering in the chewing gum is likely coming from GMO soy products, particularly, soy lecithin. Lecithin is a fatty substance that attracts both fat soluble and water soluble substances (aphiphilic), hence are commonly used has emulsifiers in foods. However, most plant materials also have as a byproduct lectins, which can be quite harmful to us humans. GMO plants are modified to be resistant to pests and herbicides. Chief among these is soy. One of the proteins modified to be resistant is the lectin itself. Most of you have probably heard of Ricin. Well Ricin is a lectin that occurs naturally from the Castor Oil plant. I suspect that much of the so called food allergies that we hear so much about is sensitivity to lectins, which are now being genetically modified to exhibit specific traits in the plant. I doubt that there are any lectins in the chewing gum, only the lecithin that is being used as an emulsifier.

Thanks Craig for the consumer report and thanks Walt for the explanation .

I have been moving toward eating better quality whole foods lately and really limiting processed foods. This likely won't keep me from chewing gum, but does give me pause on other issues .

Caught up, Craig! Some good shaves in there, especially the GTB! Pity about the Suavecito, it's always a bummer when a new soap is not up to snuff.

Thanks Walt! At this point I really have no idea to be sure. When you think about it, when you change anything honing, you are adding more laps, so I'll have to see if the thinned oil makes a difference on future honing attempts.

Don't remind me Dave!

Your welcome Don!

Thanks Jim! I did have high hopes for it.

Well I've gotten a couple of shaves behind in posting. I'm working on getting caught up with everyone's journal.

Straight Razor Shave #159

Pre Shave: Bull Dog Original Face Scrub
Razor: Harvard Cutlery Co. Pearlette
Brush: RazoRock Plissoft Disruptor Synthetic
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Aqua Velva Original Sport Cologne
Cologne: Cerruti 1881 By Nino Cerruti For Men EdT

I haven't used the Mitchell's Wool Fat soap or the Disruptor brush in a while so they were chosen to provide the lather for today's shave. Happy to say I haven't lost my MWF mojo! The SV method yielded a typical great MWF lather.

3½ passes with the Pearlette produced a nice BBS shave with 1 weeper and a slight scratch. A little alum sting on the neck. Other than that a good shave.

Finished with a good splash of the Aqua Velva and a few spritzes of the 1881. FYI I have decanted the Sport into a glass bottle, this is what was left in the original bottle after the decant. I just think it looks better for pictures than a glass bottle with a label made with label printer.

Setup 5-7-2018

Hopefully Spring has Sprung. Everything is greening up and the flowers are blooming so I decided to go an outdoor shot today.

Stayed up a little later that I meant too Monday night so I skipped the shave Tuesday and slept a little later. I was still DFS- anyway.

Straight Razor Shave #160

Pre Shave: Bull Dog Original Face Scrub
Razor: CBL Gold Dollar Mod
Brush: Satin Tip The Purest
Cream: Taylor of Old Bond Street Jermyn Street
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Myrsol Blue After Shave
Cologne: Giorgio Armani Acqua di Giò EdT

Another cream that has been neglected for a while was selected today. Jermyn Street is a great scent and of course a great performer. The Satin Tip whipped up a great lather, I really pushed the water and got a super slick lather with great residual slickness.

3½ passes with the Gold Dollar. Got 3 weepers, two of them just a red spot, one of the on my lower neck threatened to seep, but it didn't. The alum gave a little sting on the neck as expected. BBS was achieved.

A good splash of the Myrsol and then a few vasilis of the EdT and I'm good to go.

Wow! Double header today...Thanks Craig! The pics are awesome!

Spring has sprung indeed! We are not that far apart from each other, but you are a little bit north of me. Unfortunately here in Louisiana we went straight to summer. It's been in the 90s here this week.

Thanks Don! Supposed to be in the 90's here this weekend.
Nice shaves and pics. I like both of those razors, especially the scales on the GD.
Thanks Doug! Chris L. PIF'ed me that razor. If I remember correctly he made the paper micarta for the scales.
