Finally getting caught up Craig. I was going to suggest placing a little gasoline in your tire and lighting it to set the bead. Let's just say I'm glad you found the tube.

Good shaves along the way though.

I have a nice bike I picked up at a modest price (heavily discounted from an online retailer), its great but i don't think it fits me well enough. I get that classic numbness in the pinkies, sure sign something is off. I have it in the shed and do plan to ride this summer. I forget the exact brand name but I know it starts with and M and is kind of long. The tires are something like 28" (currently flat) but finding tubes at the local shop isn't hard.

My wife has mentioned the tandem bike idea but I am pretty certain she could never pull both our weights so I keep ignoring her request.
Didn't know they made a 28"
Catching up Craig, bikes are fun, but never.... never place clip less pedals on a Mountain Bike before a Mountain trail ride..... Don't ask me why.... lets just say tumbling and bikes while attached don't mix well on a mountain, LOL
I have clips on mine and it is a mountain bike, but I don't Mountain Bike, just trails. You've got to practice getting unclipped! It's 2nd nature now.

Thanks Walt! Yeah the old gas thing didn't enter my mind, but ether did. Good thing I didn't have any.

Dave...have you heard of the 10% rule? "Users must be at least 10% smarter than the equipment they are using"

I'll second Chad...pics or it didn't happen.

Yes once again I've fallen behind, way behind! I've been working 10 hour shifts all week including today. Overtime on this job is rare. We had one of our test systems go down last year. The part that broke had to be scent back to the OEM to be repaired and redesigned. We have a 6 month plus wait list for this system so getting back together and up and running is a priority. Just haven't been able to get caught up on my journal nor everyone else's. So fasten your seat belts!

Straight Razor Shave #162

Pre Shave: CBL Pre-Shave Soap
Razor: Allegany Instrument Corp. WP 5/8 cira 1920 to 1940
Brush: Saponificio Varesino SV 2.0 Shaving Brush in Ebony Wood
Soap: RazoRock Blue Fougere
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: RazoRock Blue Fougere After Shaving Splash
Cologne: Calvin Klein Obsession EdT

Okay this soap/cream/croap comes packaged like no other soap that I've used today. The I'm going to call it a soft croap. The scent is well AWESOME! The best way I can describe it is a light clean fougere, with a nice powdery note, and to me a slight tonka note.

I mashed this into a plastic container. The strength of scent is a good 3 of 5, but it dropped once lathered to a 2 of 5. The scent did last for the entire shave. I didn't bloom this as I felt it was soft enough to load. I was right. The slightly damp SV brush loaded this stuff very easily. No problem at all whipping up a great lather. The soap is a little thirsty, but not bad at all. Typical RazoRock performance. Nice and slick, good glide, great residual slickness and no stability problems.

I had taken the AIC back to the Trans Ark with the Gatco Honing Oil. Did some laps till I felt some good drag, and then water only till it was sticking.

The edge was nice and smooth. My 1st impression is that I like this Oil better than the 50/50 mix of Dan's and Mineral Spirits. More experimentation is needed there.

3½ passes, one slight weeper. Very little to no alum sting. A nice BBS shave.

Finished with the Splash. The scent is a 2 of 5, I wish it was stronger. My face feels great though. Longevity was about 2 to 3 hours. The Obsession paired nicely.

1st Lather RaoRock Blue Fougere

Mother's day didn't go as planned. We were going to go to my brother's and have a meal there. Mom called early Sunday morning to inform us that my nephew was in the hospital with an infection. He is Type 1 diabetic, and it turns out had gotten an staph infection under his insulin pump probe. It was also in his shoulder and blood. They wound up doing surgery to get the mass under the probe out. The procedure went well and he is recovering at home.

I took the opportunity to mow the yard for the 1st time Sunday. I had planned to shave after my shower, but the lawn mower threw a fit and instead of the normal 2 hours, it wound up taking about 5 hours. So I decided to wait and shave the next morning. Hence the reason for the picture.

Due to me working the 10 hour shifts and staying up too late I was a bum and didn't shave again till Thursday.

Straight Razor Shave #163

Pre Shave: Dove Men+Care Hydrate+ Face Scrub
Razor: Klas Tornblom Eskilstuna
Brush: Simpson Duke 3 in Pure Badger
Soap: Cella
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: American Shaving Co. Sandalwood After-Shave Balm

I had never used Cella before. The scent is pretty much almond, leaning toward Amaretto like. I did bloom this soap, but I don't think it was necessary. The strength of scent is a 2.5 of 5 and last for the entire shave. No problem loading the Duke 3 and it whipped up a lather in no time. Very good slickness, glide, and residual slickness. No stability issues.

3½ passes with the Klas. I managed to come in a little steep on the neck just below the chin and get a little bite. One other slight weeper on the lower right neck. Alum sting was noticeable.

The American Sh
aving Co. calmed down the irritation with ease. This balm really does feel great. Rubs in easily and is not greasy. The scent is light and only lasted maybe a couple of hours. It is a very nice sandalwood scent.

1st Lather Cella

Well today in addition to the rebuild, I had parts for another needed test system come in. Usually this a 2 hour or so job to replace these parts. That was the case, but the system didn't want to run properly. I really think we have gremlins!! I fought this system all day today and it finally decided to run, but I never did find the problem. I did discover that a sump pump in one of the cable vaults was not working and the cables were under water. Not sure if that is the cause or not. Facilities handles this repair, they are scheduled for tomorrow, so we'll see.
Funny my previous jobs have always included a good amount of overtime. 12 hour plus shits and 7 days a week were common. Now that I'm out of the habit, I can feel these 10 hour days.

5-18-2018
Pre Shave: CBL Pre-Shave Soap
Razor: Gillette Z2 Super Adjustable (set on 6)
Blade: PolSilver Super Iridium
Brush: RazoRock BC Silvertip Plissoft Synthetic
Soap: RazoRock What The Puck Lime Burst
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Royall Lyme All Purpose Lotion

Didn't really need to shave this morning so, knowing I was working tomorrow I decide to shave after I got home. That way I could sleep in tomorrow morning too.

This soap scent is a very nice lime. Strength of sent is a good 3.5 of 5 on the puck, but it also was a little weaker once lathered. The scent did last for the entire shave. The performance of this soap is excellent. I used the SV method and the BC loaded with no effort at all. The lather was a little thirsty. Great slickness, glide, and residual. No Stability issues. For about $3.00 a puck (as purchased with the 3 pack deal) this soap really does kick butt!

I wasn't feeling the straight, just too worn out after work today, more on that later. 3 passes and some clean up with the Super Adjustable and I'm BBS+ no nicks, weepers, or alum sting.

Finished up with the Royall Lyme and I'm good to go!

Setup 5-18-2018

1st Lather RazoRock What The Puck Lime Burst

The facility crew replaced the sump pump and pumped out the vault. Fingers crossed, NOPE the system still wouldn't run right. I tried something that for some reason had worked in the past. Normally we bring this system online in the control room, I went to the equipment shack and brought the system up locally. I then drove the 1/4 mile back to the control room, and the system had faulted. This was new. It was lunch time so after 4 attempts to sit down and eat, I did eat lunch. Grabbed some test equipment and went to the equipment shack. I didn't know when the fault was occuring, these systems are brou
ght up in stages with takes about 3 minutes total. I went through each step and waited for 10 minutes to see if it faulted. It never did. I went to the control room and had them run a pre-test. It passed with flying colors. WTH???!! Went back to the shack and shut the system down and switch to remote mode. Brought the system up in the control room, no problems! Gremlins I tell you!!

Did my normal Friday night at the cigar lounge. I took the new soaps with me to let a couple of friends smell them. Italian Barber should be paying me a commission! Both of my friends placed free shipping orders. Yes I'm their enabler. They have both joined here, but I haven't gotten them to post yet.

Straight Razor Shave #164

Pre Shave: Urth Face Scrub and Wash
Razor: Klas Tornblom Eskilstuna
Brush: RazoRock Plissoft Distruptor Synthetic
Soap: RazoRock What The Puck Orange Sunrise
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Duke Cannon Ice-Cold After Shave Balm
Cologne: Terre d’Hermès EdT

After work shave again today.
This soap's scent is more like orange sherbet to me, just a little citrusy, nice! The performance was identical to the Lime Burst as expected.

3½ passed with the Klas. One weeper and one slight nick where I let the toe touch a little. Nothing major. Noticeable alum sting. Rubbed in some of the Duke Cannon and the irritation was calmed right down.

A few spritzes of the Terre d'Hermes finished off the shave. Not a match to the soap but it was all I could think of to use.

Setup 5-19-2018

We've gotten most the rebuild put back together. If nothing goes wrong, a couple of more days and it should be ready to try out.

Currently sitting on the patio at my cigar lounge, enjoying a Canimao cigar and some Woodford Reserve Bourbon. Nice way to unwind from the week.

Sorry to hear about your nephew’s health issues. Glad he’s on the mend.

Glad you liked the Cella soap, it’s a favorite of mine! The scent kind of dissipates for me during the shave unless I sniff the brush, still a good l, clean, slick soap though!

Great wrap-up of the recent shaves, Craig, and good news to hear that your nephew is on the mend after a touch and go situation. Staph is nothing to mess with!

Sounds like the gremlins are out to get you at work...hopefully they don't start collaborating with Mr. M and infecting your shaves as well!

Wow Craig! The super shave post! Love the journal and all the pics! I really love the Lawnmower pic. Just made me laugh.

I am really sorry about your nephew but am glad he is recovering well. Type I Diabetes is such a tragedy and most people really don't know what it is. I hope and pray your nephew gets better and hope he is able to manage his condition the best way possible!

Nice shaves. I hope next week is less hectic.
Thanks Doug!

Thanks Don! He will have to readjust to monitoring and giving himself insulin shots, he had a hard time with that before, but he is older and hopefully wiser now.

I'm still catching up on everyone's journals. Taking some time, tut I'll get er done!

Pre Shave: CBL Pre-Shave Soap
Razor: Rockwell 6S (R4 plate)
Blade: Parker Premium Platinum
Brush: Wolf Whiskers Bishop "Party on Bourbon Street" with Elite Razor 28mm Manchurian White Knot
Soap: Wholly Kaw King of Oud
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Wholly Kaw King of Oud After-shave Splash
Cologne: Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia EdT

After doing I finished the yard work today, my son made it up for a delayed birthday and Mother's Day dinner. So I didn't take the day off from shaving.

I choose the Wholly Kaw King of Oud for today's shave and even though I preach not doing this I used a new blade today also.
The King of Oud scent is excellent! A good 3.5 of 5 on scent strength in the tub and a little more after lathering. There is a lot more than Oud scent going on with this soap. From Wholly Kaw's website:
Top Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Clary Sage, Rose, Aldehydes and Pink Pepper
Middle notes: Angelica, Rosewood, Galbanum
Base notes: Agarwood or Oud, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Patchouli and Amber

I used the SV method and the soap loaded like a dream. The Wolf Whisker's brush whipped up a lather with ease, just a little thirsty, but no other issues. The lather is excellent! Great slickness, glide, and residual slickness. No stability issues.

Dkeester aka Doug sent me a tuck of the Parker blades, Thanks Doug!

I loaded one into the 6S and proceeded with the shave. 1st impression is this is a great balde! Nice and sharp and really smooth. I'll be putting this blade into my stable more than likely. I'd put it on par with the Astra Superior Platinum with smoothness and just below the Feather on sharpness, but not by much. It rivals the PolSilver Super Iridium in overall performance for me. No tugging or roughness at all.

I did for some reason have an issue keeping the 6S at the correct angle. I found myself getting too steep on the angle. This resulted in a few weepers and some pretty good irritation on the neck. I think this was due to the slickness of the lather and also somewhat to the blade. Not it's fault, it was mine. I'm going to
stick with this blade for a few shaves and see how it performs with different soaps/creams and razors.

Even with the weepers and irritation, I got a BBS+ shave. If not for them it would have been grail worthy!

Finished up with the Wholly Kaw After-shave Splash. Nice cooling menthol effect and I purposely didn't use any balm to see how it handled the irritation. It calmed it down pretty well. Not completely, but the alum sting was pretty intense!
I'll rub in some talc tonight before bed.

A few spritzes of the Acqua Essenziale Colonia, it pairs very well with this scent!

1st Lather Wholly Kaw King of Oud

As I said my son came up and took SWMBO, my mother, and I out for dinner tonight for a late Mother's Day and my birthday celebration. We went to Outback and I had the Prime Rib with the Toowoomba Shrimp topping. Man that stuff is good!
I'm currently finishing up an Fuente Fuente Opux X A cigar and a dram of The Balvenie PortWood 21 year old single malt whisky on the porch, an excellent paring! A little delayed birthday treat! Excellent ending for this day.

Great shave Craig, and I have to agree with you on the King of Oud...wonderful soap and scent. Sri really hit it out of the park with that one.

I am glad that you like the blade. I am very happy with them. Great shave.
Thanks Doug! Yeah I think the blade will work out. A few more test shaves and we'll see.

Thanks Josh! Yes the scent is really nice and the performance is excellent, a Tier 1 soap for sure.

WOW a lot of shaves I missed.

The Razorock selections are awesome aren't they?

Oooooh man that sounds like a good night! I have several tobaccos I've been wanting to try, but it's just been too windy out for a week to get out for a smoke!

It was enjoyable!

Well that is what they make wind proof lighters for, don't you know?

Catching up Craig good stuff, and to the rest of you jokesters I know how to unclip, just not how to hold a wheelie on a cliff side trail. So Josh is actually the winner. this was years ago when my bones still bent, I have given on the Pedal power and prefer extreme angles and 160 Horse power on two-wheels.... LOL
