Well I took the Buck to the stones Saturday, to attempt to remove the "Faucet Monster Bite."
I did take some pictures but they are on my desktop computer and I forgot to copy them. I'll post them in a thread in the Straight Razor sub forum.
I started by tapping the spine and hitting the DMT D8C till there was no more evidence of the bite with the loop. I removed the tape and proceeded to reset the bevel on the Shapton Pro 1K. Got it to where it was passing the cherry tomato test with ease. Then did the progression on the Shapton Pros 5K, 8K, and 12K. I finished it up on the Trans Ark. Tree topping arm hair nicely at this point. Then 25 laps on the Tony Miller linen followed by 100 on the Old No. 2 Heirloom leather. Now for the real test, will it shave?

Wound up not shaving Saturday or Sunday so a good 2 days growth for the test.

Straight Razor Shave #156

Pre Shave: Dove Men+ Deep Clean+ Face Scrub
Razor: Buck Salient #138 of 250
Brush: RazoRock BC Silvertip Plissoft Synthetic
Soap: Pinaud Clubman
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Pinaud Clubman After Shave Lotion
Cologne: Yves Saint Laurent La Nuti De L'Homme EAU Électrique EdT

I choose the Clubman soap for this morning's shave. This soap performs well for me. Easy to lather and the lather is a good performer. Love the scent, even thought it is more Clubman Vanilla that regular to me.

Whipped up a nice lather using the SV method and proceeded with the shave.

The edge started out a little harsh, but removing the 2 day growth easily. Somewhere in the 1st pass the edge smoothed out. 3½ passes lather and I'm BBS with no nicks or weepers. Alum confirmed a good shave with just a tad bit of sting on the neck and chin.

So the edge repair was a success.

Finished up with a good splash of the Clubman ASL and a few spritzes of the Electrique. A nice pairing IMHO.

Great job on bringing the Buck back from the dead! That picture really shows off the scales beautifully!

Good stuff Craig. I have yet to try the Clubman soap. It is on my list for sure.

Great job on removing the nick Craig. Was that the first shave finishing on the Trans. Ark?

Walt, personally, if I had to choose, I would pick the 460 over the 500. I worked at a gun shop for a while and they do indeed have the same frame. The S&W rep that came around liked to tell a story about how the 460 took out a Kodiak with one shot. But other than that, I liked the ballistics on the 460 better.

Don, from a versatility standpoint, the 460 seems the better fit from my perspective. I am in Black Bear country, so the additional penetration that the 500 is capable of will likely not be required. The loading book I use to formulate loads is Modern Reloading (Second Edition), by Richard Lee. I like the way that he presents the load data by velocity in descending order. I will have to scope out the various loads between the two. Additionally, he does provide hot .45 Colt loads for use in modern (states for Ruger and T/C only) firearms. These are interesting from a defense standpoint where recoil should be reduced over the 454 Casull.

Thanks Walt! No this was the 1st complete edge that I finished on it. I had touched up the Klas Tornblom Eskilstuna and my Grandad's Union Razor Cutlery Co. prior to this.

Craig ~ I smoke cigars because it's cheaper than therapy!

You might want to spend more time on the Trans. to see if the edge smooth's out. Arks can be notoriously slow. Not sure how many laps you made on the Ark, but often people talk of making a couple of hundred. I always exceed 100 on my Trans. and my Black. For example, the last honing session I did was about 150 on each. Interestingly, just 30 laps on my small 2x8 improved both edges compared to them coming off the Trans or the Black.

Walt I probably did at least a total of 150 to 200 laps, I really didn't count them. I just kept at it till I felt what Dave showed as "it stuck" in the video he did.

Straight Razor Shave #157

Pre Shave: Bull Dog Original Face Wash
Razor: Clyde Twinworks 50¾
Brush: Semogue Excelsior 830 Boar
Soap: Chiseled Face Groomatorium Ghost Town Barber
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Chiseled Face Groomatorium Ghost Town Barber

Chiseled Face Groomatorium Ghost Town Barber, need I say more? The Semogue made quick work of making the lather. This brush has really came into its own. Great backbone and the tips have gelled nicely.

3½ passes with the 50¾ left me with a BBS+ and 2 slight weepers. Just a noticeable little bit of alum sting on the neck.
Finished with a good splash of the GTB AS.

Setup 5-2-2018

Had to be fitted for a full face respirator for work today. Saw a lot of former bearded co-workers there. Next I have to to the company doc and prove I can breathe.

Gotta love that GTB! Great stuff Craig. The Semogue 830 was my first shaving brush, though it's been quite a while since it was broken out.

All caught up, Craig. Great stuff!

LPL soap - I wish it performed better for me at home because their rose scented soap is a wonderful rose scent indeed.

Nice job on the honing.
