Great catch-up post, Craig, and a couple of good shaves in there even with the nick from the Allegheny.

Very nice shaves, Craig. Sorry to hear about the faucet ding, though I think it is a rite of passage for straight shavers lol. Pretty sure everyone has it happen at some point.

Thanks Eric!
Well that is one right of passage that I pray I nor anyone else has to experience again.

*knocks on wood* I haven't had to deal with that, YET, as I don't have a sink in front of me when I shave. Just a wash basin with hot water in it from a kettle.

Some great shaves Craig. Sorry you had a faucet ding, but I'm confident you will get that worked out. I love your X frame S&W. I have a 629 with a 3" magnaported barrel that is pretty stout when it goes bang, but I'm still under gunned in bear country with it. The 50 seems to be the ticket. I have also been thinking about a Redhawk 454 Casull.

I hope you don't Josh! I'm still kicking myself for not paying attention.

Thanks Walt! The 500 definitely has some BANG when you pull the trigger. This one was purchased 2nd hand, after the original owner and 2 of his friends, each fired one round and decided it was too much BANG for them. If you are looking for a large caliber pistol, you might consider the S&W 460. It chambers and fires not only the S&W 460, but .45 Colts and .454 Casull. The recoil on the 460 is no more, maybe even less, than on my S&W Model 629 .44 Mag.

My 629 is a Trail Boss that came from the factory Magna Ported. With such a short barrel, I got it cause I could see myself carrying it concealed, which I do sometimes. When carrying in the woods when the presence of a momma bear is quite likely, I am thinking I need more than .44 Mag.

I have not done any research on the S&W 460. I am assuming it is on the X frame as well. I assume the 460 round is hotter than the 454 Casull and has a longer chamber if you can shoot all three of them? I have a bunch of .45 Colt brass as my Dad had one. I got Brass and dyes to reload them when he passed. I even loaded a couple of hundred for a friend who had an Umberti Single Six and a Henry repeater, both in .45 Colt.

Yes the 460 is the X frame and it is a longer round. 2330 fps with a 200 grain bullet amd 2400 lbs/ft!

Wow, the 460 is considerably hotter than the .454 Casull. Gotta get one of those! In actuality, the .45 Colt can be loaded to be nearly as hot as the .454 Casull, but because of all of the old guns that chamber it, good load data is hard to come by, or at least it was. A max loaded .45 Colt would likely blow a Single Action Army to smithereens.

Walt, personally, if I had to choose, I would pick the 460 over the 500. I worked at a gun shop for a while and they do indeed have the same frame. The S&W rep that came around liked to tell a story about how the 460 took out a Kodiak with one shot. But other than that, I liked the ballistics on the 460 better.
