Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Thanks Chris, didn't take long to sell so I'll stick with the other 2 bowls. Shame as it is a looker.
You are a better man than I. Once I have something I like, it’s hard for me to let it go, even if it doesn’t get use.

You guys with your Rockwells - y'all are wearing me down.

I got the heavier weight CC copper bowl and have really enjoyed it for the last several shaves. I do admire the handle you have on your Turkish bowl.

The Rockwell 6S rocks--truly an autopilot shave.

Just catching up Dave. Some good shaves and videos! And you are right sir, it is WOODER!!! ? I didn't realize you were from Philly....wait maybe I did...either way wooder is the correct way to say it!

Good to see you Glenn

Outside Philly, but few know where Levittown is ?

Is there any difference between the Rockwell 6C and the 6S other than the extra plate for the S?
Sounded like the weight is pretty close. Probably doing it again I'd just go with the 6C to save the $

I have the old L&L Darkfall, different base but I assume the scent is the same. I like the scent quite a bit. I wouldn't try to describe it other than to say yes, it is a darker scent perfectly suited for this time of year.

Too bad about the Xmas1 scent, that one is kind of fun. Based on the ones you have felt reactions to I think the bigger culprit for you is vanillin. Some scents have just a little while others have more. unfortunately you wont always know when a fragrance oil used to scent the soap has vanillin in it (when we buy them they usually DO list a vanillin content, so you can always ask). One trick is to look at the color of the soap. In most cases a fragrance oil with vanillin in it will turn a normally light colored soap a brown/caramel color. There are other reasons for a soap to be colored brown/caramel so the color isn't always proof that vanillin is present.

I am sensitive to vanillin only when it is present in fairly large amounts. Based on your reactions I have decided to hold back full production of both the Tabac & Leather and this version of xmas1 (stroussal) for now. I have some other seasonal/temporary scents I want to get out there so I'll focus on those for now.

Chris your input is invaluable and I appreciate it very much. Don't hold back on those on just my account because the scents are great and not all have a reaction I assume. Just in from work and after a shower the plan is a shave with a mix of 2 together, fougere and Irish Fern. Thanks again for the tips on vanillin

When I asked the question before, some have said that there is a difference in the shave. I don't recall exactly, but maybe that the 6C was a bit more aggressive?

Razor: Rockwell 6s Plate 5

Blade: Voskhod (6)

Brush: Sorrentino Hybrid w/Envy Shave Silver Tip

Soap: CBL Fogere and Irish Fern mixed together

Aftershave 1: Thayers Cucumber

Aftershave 2: Avon Oland

Sorry but no pic today. So I decided to mix these extremely soft soap samples together since that's what Chris may eventually do as well which gets close to Sir Irish Moos scent (One I've never used so I don't know) Together I get a nice clean green and fresh scent that reminds me of something pleasant and I can't put my finger on it. Nice scent though and better performance. 6 more hair out of this knot during the shave but I'm not going down that road again........ think the Voskhod did well but has lost it's keenness so is getting binned after 6 this time. Topped things of with Cucumber Thayers and Avon Oland. Catching a na before dinner and heading to services tonight. Have a swell evening Cadre !!
