Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Injectors are meant to always have a blade installed. When they shipped from the factory they were loaded with an un-edged blade that is meant to be immediately replaced with a real blade.

Thanks Sharps. I don't mind helping when I can. Frustration is when it was something that they could have done but it's easier to ask Dave. Simple fix. Daughter that lives next door texts and says the kitchen sink to s only trickling water but the sprayer is fine. I said unscrew the faucet cap and clean the filter. Said she couldn't get it loose. I said put a rag over it and use some channel locks. Said she tried before heading to work this morning and was too tight. Drove over and used wrench but felt like it would have come off after a tap or two. Annoying at times but the women works and looks after her 80 plus year old mom and mentally handicap adult sister. She deserves a break now and then. Rant off and problem solved in 2 minutes...... Southern Hospitality

The world could do with more people willing to help their neighbors like you Dave. Too many people are quicker to think of themselves first. Kudos to you ?

Razor: Rockwell 6s Plate 5

Blade: Concord (2)

Brush: Paladin 26 mm Butterscotch Moe

Soap: Ariana & Evans Revolution

Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla

Aftershave 2: Ariana & Evans Revolution

3 am shave to get to some floor jobs done before doing windows on a house. 2nd shave with the Concord blade which isn't bad per say but not one I'll stick with for me given the choices I have. Thanks to Bill in Oneida for giving me a tuck to try. I LOVE this A&E scent and soap. I want some more A&E but unsure on a bind buy with his scent. Haven't seen that he does samples so I should be watching the TSC Soap library for some if they turn up. We all should watch there and contribute if you haven't tried it yet. Got a great shave compared to yesterday. May just need time with the injector. It wasn't bad but not a close one for me and don't see an issue with angle but perhaps a learning curve. I'll revisit it soon to give it another go. Anyway a great shave today and I smell great !! Have a stupendous day Cadre !!

Nice shave today Dave...even if it wasn't as close as you would like it!

You are right about the Soap Sample Swap...I have a few more soaps that I have ready to send. Just got in new tape for my label maker and I hope to have them out this weekend in the mail!

Yesterday's shave subpar. Today was stellar. Just doing a shout out for those that hadn't done anything yet with the soap swap. Not nudging you man. Just helping to get the word out. I need to send more in too.

Hoping this weekend guys. The guy forgot to send my new samples and I had to nudge him. They are supposed to be on the way now.

Razor: Rockwell 6s Plate 5

Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (1)

Brush: Frank Shaving 24 mm Badger

Soap: Mystic Waters Raspberry Lemon

Aftershave 1: Thayers Lavender

Aftershave 2: Skin Bracer

Brush:
So let's get the brush out of the way first. A steal at getting it new on the bay with another for @$10 shipped for both together. Came with Frank Shave info and was what you expect for a cheap badger brush. Pulled about 20 hairs off as I dry stropped it with my hand and probably another 20 during the shave. I don't see it ever stop shedding in the future but we'll see. Only one to shed more then my Envy Shave Silver Tip knot but again a LOT cheaper and expected. Spoiled by my synthetics and Paladin Badgers, I can't tell you how annoying it is to me to get a hair or 2 in my lather while shaving. This one was constant and annoyance level was off the charts, again, expected but was hoping for a surprise as the knot seemed very dense and nice for the money out of the box. Just went downhill from there. Oh well, life goes on ?
Soap:
A research will show a lot of people gripping about trying to get a decent lather from this soap but I have heard such high praises here that I wanted to give it a try. My water is not and never has been an issue and I've been whipping lather since I was 16 years old and currently for the past 10 years plus so I know how to lather soap. I loaded like I do for most all the soaps I have and got a passable lather for the 1st pass. Starting to lather for 2nd pass and there was nothing in the brush so went back to the puck and loaded for longer then normal (15 seconds more) Got going and didn't add water too fast but had it flinging every where like I've never had before. Kinda fun. Could have been the brush decided to release a hydrant all at once. Got very good lather for the last 2 passes. Slickness didn't seem any better or as good for that matter then any of my favorites like CBL, DG, A&E or even CFG. It was a nice soap and a good shave but it takes more attention to get the right lather compared to others. Will I keep it in the den and enjoy it? Yes. Is it a favorite base? No
Scent strength was great off the tub and this is a candy kind of Raspberry Lemon with the Raspberry having the heavy hand but I liked it. I don't have many candy type scents and enjoyed this one as did the wife. Not as strong a scent while lathering but still there and the occasional funk smell I got was definitely from the new brush that might have overriding it.

Will be sending a couple samples pulled off of each tub of the Mystic Waters I got in to the Soap Swap Library along with others I'm putting together. If you haven't taken advantage of this service to try something new, you are missing out.

Topped things off with some Lavender Thayers after a little alum use which is rare for me but may have been a lack of protection from the soap cushion or the new GSB blade. Nothing major. Then some Skin Bracer since I don't have nor do I want a Candy scented Aftershave. Soap occasionally, yes. AS, no.Have a great day Cadre !!!!

Nice shave Dave. Bummer that the brush appears to be a shedder—I too cannot stand hairs in the lather/on the soap. I guess to be expected for the price, but still. Maybe you can beat it into submission with a few test lathers and wet dry cycles to see if it calms down.

Thanks John, that's the plan. If nothing else it's a handle to reknot. Nice heft to both handles.
