Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Awesome shave! Eclectic gathering of scents though...I suppose they all fall along some kind of island shave theme? ?

I’m with you on the razor! I hope v2 gets some good production and doesn’t hurt the wallet too much...

There's no rhyme or reason to my choices together. Not worth looking for common denominators. ?

Razor: Brass Colonial General

Blade: AC Pro Guard (3)

Brush: Sorrentino Hybrid w/Quarter Moon Synthetic

Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Street Abyss

Aftershave 1: Thayers Lavender

Aftershave 2: Aqua Velva

So Josh was generous and kind to send me a bunch of samples some of which aren't attainable. I chose to use Jeeves of Hudson Street Abyss because while the scent notes appear to be in my wheel house it has Rose which I am still curious of whether it is an irritant for me. Off the tub in has a nice scent that is about mid strength and stayed with me thru the shave. This lathers easy and yields a rich creamy lather that is slick. Residual is there after adding water to the face. I am so appreciative that Josh sent this one as now I know, I have no reaction to it and it's on my purchase list. I'm just on the fence at the moment to decide if I want the matching AS as I don't know anything about their AS..........yet. So now I question my irritation source. Soaps had issue with were LNHC Somali Rose, SS Uplift and I believe CBL BRO. I really need to make a list because there was another 1 or 2 and I want to find the common denominators. I need to do better with making notes which isn't my strong suit.

The General I just keep getting more comfortable with and am enjoying it. Surprised there aren't more that have signed up to give it a try on the pass around in the SE section. It is a hefty razor and I keep thinking the smooth handle is going to slip from my fingers but it never did or felt like it would. Just mentally I kept thinking that in the back of my mind knowing how smooth the handle is. Wish it had some detail like the Karve but I guess they wanted a sleek look overall. Just a flat out nice shave that added a soap to the buy list. Have a great day Cadre !!

Wow! That is interesting about the irritation. I would have guessed that it was the rose...but apparently not. As Uplift from Sudsy Soapery doesn't have rose in it (at least I don't think it does). Just keep track...you will figure it out.

I am thinking about Getting on the General List...but I am afraid that it is going to be much too aggressive to my liking. And if it isn't...well then...I can't buy it...because they don't make it any longer...

Anyway...I will likely get on the list...I just need to think about it.

I don't think it would be to aggressive for you and even if can't buy you will have had the experience that some never will. Nudge, nudge

So glad to hear that the razor is agreeing with you Dave, and even better that the JoHS Abyss didn't give you any irritation.

One note on that...it could be because of the type of oil they used. I'm not sure what one causes irritation, but there's a dramatic difference between the fragrance oil (synthetic) and essential oil (natural). Not sure which one Jeeves uses.

Good point to make note of to research. Thanks Josh

Dave if you want to try their AS, let me know.
Thanks KJ, I may hold off for now and reserve the chance for in the future. Just give me your thoughts on it for face feel in how it feels going on an how it feels when dried down and scent longevity. Had another question for you but will put it in the aftershave section to help others too.

I see the Aqua Velva is giving a helping hand today instead of a talk-to-the-hand! ?

Godo shave man!

You ask too many questions. I’d rather just send you some, lol.
