Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

FYI, Blue Steel is not a Bootlegger's recipe.
Got from Sue Moore auction as set of 4 Bootleggers. I've read all the threads about it till my face is Blue Steel. I know OkieStubble is the one who decides. Didn't see the auction contradict it but I'm not splitting hairs.(Even read how you hated Florida Water ?)

I started the Clubs and Brotherhood for Psycho razors in the other neighborhood. Biggest collection I've seen is bobbers from Louisiana. He makes and sells the keys on the bay.

Robert is a good guy. Lives about 20 minutes from my house. We've shared a beer or two. He has quite a collection of razors and other stuff. His house flooded the same time mine did and lost a lot of his stuff. He had cases for just about everything but had to pitch those. I haven't talked to him in quite a while and now I'm thinking I need to reach out and see what he is up to.

By the way...I got my Psycho Tech from Bobbers...cut me a pretty fair deal.

He reached out to me to see where I got my key since it was one he made and gave me a good deal on my original key to go with my razor. Nice guy. He's not a heavy poster but you should let him know about the Cadre.....................now I'm recruiting, recruiters. Just like Amway !!

Razor: Brass Colonial General

Blade: AC Pro Guard (1)

Brush: Sorrentino Cadre Member brush w/Cashmere

Soap: Club CBL from CBL Soaps

Aftershave 1: Humphreys Alcoholado Maravilla

Aftershave 2: Pinaud Clubman

Okay so got a late morning shave after and early start and finish for work. Had to get back for someone doing a structural assessment on the homestead before they do some blasting nearby. I'm here and he rescheduled.............

My first shave with the Brass General. Seems I remember Josh saying that if you use pressure this baby will bite you so I was extra cautious. As the shave progressed though I got more confident and we all know what that leads to..............................a GREAT shave. I was sure not to overdo any pressure but zero in on the angle and I have to say it was really enjoyable. This thing is not only a sexy razor but performs to boot. I will use a couple more times at least but am glad they aren't for sale as I may just be looking for 1. the one thing that needs getting used to is how big the head is lengthwise. My guess without measuring is 3/8 an inch longer than the Timeless obviously to accommodate the AC style blade. Get signed up if you want to give this thing a try.

The CBL soap is a dead ringer for the Clubman aftershave and performance was top notch as all his soap is.What a wonderful shave. Life is good.........................would've been better if the guy showed up but I'll power thru. Have a great day Cadre !!!

Oh man...trying to justify a way to buy the v2 of the General...

You don't have one. There, justified.

Good shave today Dave! I'm not a big Clubman guy...but I'm glad Chris made a pretty good clone!

Nice shave Dave! The width of the AC style blades does take some getting used to. Love the look the brass general. Also love the Clubman!

Razor: Brass Colonial General

Blade: AC Pro Guard (2)

Brush: Yaqi Sagrada Familia Synthetic

Soap: CBL Ghost Pineapple

Aftershave 1: Humphreys Alcoholado Maravilla

Aftershave 2: Avon Cool Sage

A morning shave to start the day with CBL Ghost Pineapple. This yielded some of the BEST lather I've had with CBL soaps which is saying a lot. The pineapple scent isn't synthetic or fake to me. The cooling agent was more along the Ghost idea of sneaking up on you then other ghost scents I've used. They've all been great but this one was less present on the 1st pass, more present on the 2nd pass and fully revealed by the 3rd pass. LOVED the effect as it grew in intensity.

The Brass General is a hefty razor weight-wise and a joy to use. Yesterday my wife says,"Tell me your not going to need these razors now." I said this ones not even available and she had a sigh of relief. I after a 2nd shave with it am getting bummed as I really would like to get a Brass one and would settle for a SS one but wouldn't get a lighter aluminum one. To my knowledge, non are available hence the bummed feeling. Everyone owes it to themselves to try it out. An added bonus of the big head is it lends itself to KJ style shaving as seen by the no rinse 1st pass pic !!

Topped things with Humphrey's 70 and Avon Cool Sage for a nice smooth finish. Have a splendid day Cadre !!

GHOST PINEAPPLE!!! You have confirmed it...I NEED it!

How would you say the razor performs? My assumption is that it is more on the aggressive side. And are there no other razors out there that are similar to the general? And that Avon Gas Pump bottle might be one of the cooler ones I have seen!

Yes you do need the Ghost Pineapple. The razor I'm sure some would say is aggressive but I feel if respected it is mild and efficient. Get careless with technique and I have no doubt it'll let you know. For a guy that has shaved with Straights like yourself, I would say respect it and watch technique and you will enjoy it. Similar razors? I wouldn't know as this is my first modern SE an also first AC style besides a feather straight. Thanks Don
