Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Glad you like the 63. It’s always a bummer when you hear great things about a soap and then it doesn’t do anything for you.

Date: Tuesday August 14th

Razor: Rockwell 6c Plate 4
Blade: Perma Sharp (5)
Brush: Stirling 2 Band Synthetic
Soap: Cold River Soap Works Fragile Confusion
Aftershave 1: Thayers Lavender
Aftershave 2: Avon Island Lime

So I decided to try this as my first CRSW. The scent is very light off the puck but pleasant as they describe it which they say is the “Fragile” and as you lather and shave the scent does seem to disappear and then reappear from time to time as you shave which is what they describe as the “Confusion”. Pretty cool and interesting what is behind the naming of it. When loading off the puck I tried to load a little longer then normal and when trying to face lather I realized I had WAY too much soap. Had to add and add water and it was flinging everywhere but this Glide base was slicker then snot. I was extremely impressed with it and wonder if all the scents of Glide are like this or if it was unique to this scent. After cleaning up I inspect the tub and find why it loaded so much soap. Could press a finger right to bottom of tub if wanted. VERY soft consistency and will be more careful not to overload in the future. I got an extremely smooth and close shave and rally enjoyed this soap, Also really enjoying the Avon Island Lime. DEFINITELY on the hunt for more scents wsith Bravo on the short list after seeing Chad and KJ’s talking about it.

Razor: Rockwell 6c Plate 4
Blade: Perma Sharp (6)
Brush: Yaqi 24mm Synthetic
Soap: Chiseled Face Sherlock
Aftershave 1: Alum Block
Aftershave 2: Chiseled Face Sherlock

Took day off today as I’m well ahead of my work schedule for the month at. After getting some yard work done I got a nice shower and set up for a nice shave. Decided to go with Sherlock by CFG as it’s been awhile and is fairly new to me. Got a nice lather although GTB seems to lather easier to me. Nice shave but felt the roughness coming through on the blade as I was doing my ATG pass on the neck. Went light on the finish there and binned the blade. I’m going to have to think long and hard as to what blade to use tomorrow. I’m actually having second thoughts about DE shaving and it‘s benefits. We’ll see what tomorrow brings and I’ll discuss my thoughts then.

Have a GREAT day Cadre !!!

Interesting that the lather wasn't on par with the GTB. To my knowledge he hasn't changed the soap base on those products just the scent. I get extremely similar results from all three of my regular CFG soaps as well as the CFG/Zoologist collaboration i have.

Bravo is probably my absolute favorite Avon scent. But I only have a little bit and I have never been able to find any in the wild. I guess I could get some off the Bay, but where is the fun in that.

I'll find in the wild or get on the bay with a bottle I like. Thanks for offering more insight on it. Sounds great

Razor: Mach 3 Handle with Day Logic Cartridge
Blade: N/A
Brush: 26mm Paladin Harlequin Chief
Soap: PdP 63
Aftershave 1: Humphrey’s Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Anthony’s Bay Rum

As I stated yesterday, I’m having second thoughts about DE shaving. I know you all will be disappointed in me but I got into this hobby to save money from what carts of the Mach 3 variety were costing me. But nowadays there are Chinese knockoffs (DayLogics) that are similar and cheaper and we all know about acquisition disorders and how that costs us. After seeing one of our esteemed owners using carts with good success it got me to thinking. What’s the point in what we're doing !! Look how much this chore is costing me now. So today starts me back to carts bought cheap off the bay that my wife uses with an old Mach 3 handle. I’ll continue to use up all my soaps and aftershaves before going back to the canned goo which really in retrospect, how bad was it really………………………

Have a Great day Cadre !! Hopefully I won’t be kicked out, after all I didn't start this. Chad did !!!

Home front: Get to get hooked up to wires and sleep in a strange place tonight for a sleep study. Not looking forward to that................

OMG...another one. At least yours only had 3 blades...I was stuck with a FIVE PACK. What has Chad done to us?

My goodness a LOT of cart razors in use around these parts! Throwing me off! Good luck with the sleep study.

Date: Friday August 17th

Razor: Rockwell 6c Plate 4
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (1)
Brush: Cadre Member Brush with Cashmere Knot
Soap: Chiseled Face GTB
Aftershave 1: Thayers Lavender
Aftershave 2: Chiseled GTB

Home and needed a shower to wash off the slime from connections for sleep study. How they expect you to sleep like that is a joke but I'm sure out of sheer exhaustion they got some readings. After a shower I decided to get a shave in to feel good even though only about 15 hrs since last shave. Last shave left a lot to be desired needless to say. Had a nice shave and did a video of it.We'll see if I can get it uploaded in a playable form. Feeling better now and have the day off so just relaxing and playing on the computer along with some errands to run. Have 3 Storybook Soapworks Sets coming from BST (Elysium,Visions and Revisions and Hallward's Dream) I love the Hook I already bought. Also some soaps and shampoo bars from Lisa so good things to try. Need to scale back purchases for awhile like others to take care of some other household projects.

Hope the Cadre has a STUPENDOUS Day !!!!
