Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Great shaves Dave!

Well I can't say that a brush has really ever talked to me.

That being said I totally get it!

Razor: Rockwell 6c Plate 4
Blade: Perma Sharp (3)
Brush: 26mm Paladin Harlequin
Soap: Declaration Grooming CL Vide Poche
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Avon Island Lime

As can be seen by the above list for today's shave, I've fallen off the wagon. Not out of love with GTB but I've learned a new respect for Doug or maybe it's suspicion. I mean how can you go 68 shaves with the same soap with other soaps staring at you. Better man then me cause I couldn't do it. GTB, I'll be back. Anyway on with the shave. I must say this soap off the puck smells nice/interesting to me but I wouldn't rave about it. I know some were really digging it and I respect that but to me pleasant although not WOW. Lathering to me is where it was and performance wise. Lathered quick although by 3rd pass was getting thin and needed some more work to get the lather going. I used plenty of water, probably needed a little more product because after the shave I pulled the lather from the brush and it was luxurious stuff. Face felt great afterwards too. I topped things off with the Avon Island Lime and KJ didn't lie. This stuff is heavenly for me. Alcohol dies quick. Sublime lime scent and dries and leaves a nice feel afterwards with NO sticky which is always my complaint of some splashes. I like a nice clean feel afterwards and this delivers. Looking forward to trying the other Avon scent I have and collecting some more of these hidden gems if they are anything like this one.

Have a Splendid Day Cadre !!!

Good impressions Dave of Vide Poche! Although you have already proven me wrong. I said in my initial thoughts that this would be a LOVE it or HATE it scent. You sir...are solidly in the middle. Either way...the performance is what we really buy soaps for and I am glad you liked it. Give it another shave or two and I bet you might consider this to be an elite soap. Or maybe not...as I said already...you have proven me wrong! Glad you like the Island Lime. Like KJ, it is my all time favorite lime scent. It performs great and smells like a lime...oh yeah, and it sticks around longer than any other lime scented aftershave to me. Have a great Sunday my Brother!

Wasn't trying to prove anyone wrong. I've been pretty accepting of most any scents over the years but with so many choices I'm paying more attention to them. Performance is where it's at though as you said. Have a good day friend

Wheel done came off that plan. That’s ok, it’ll eat away at your sanity.

Good first impressions of the Vide Poche scent Dave...the Icarus soap base is some darned tootin good soap, though. Tough to get past the performance....IMHO it's that good.

I have to agree on performance. I'm certain I didn't have it dialed in right but will get it there. Even as it was I could tell it was awesome stuff. Thanks

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the soap Dave. I am one of those strange people that can shave with the same soap for months. I enjoy the variety from time to time, but when I do I typically am underwhelmed by the performance because it has been so long since I used it that I forgot how to dial it in. We have been feeding our pitbull the same dog food (very good dog food) since we got him in 2015. It does not bother him a bit, and he is just as excited at breakfast and dinner now as he was almost three years ago when we got him. I guess I am alittle like that with soaps. If I like the performance, I have no problem consuming the puck.

I know what you mean when changing out performance can be altered from lack of familiarity. We all gotta do what we like. I miss my Staffy. Any pics of your Pit?

Soap: Pre de Provence 63
Aftershave 1: Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel

Ok, This soap has a scent that reminds me of something and I don’t know what it is. Bought because of all the talk recently on the forum about it and to my sniffer this stuff is heavenly. Wish I knew what it was it smells like or reminds me of but I would probably put this scent in my top 10 if not 5. Performance was astounding to me as well.

Nice smooth shave with the 6c on 4 and shave number 4 on a PermaSharp. 36 hours since last shave and I feel and smell like a million bucks………………well at least $500,000.
Hope the Cadre is having a swell day !!

Glad you like it. It's an amazing scent, and almost perfect to me. I got the cologne, and it's my second favorite cologne behind Agua Brava.

Great reads, Dave. I too am a lover of the Avon Island Lime aftershave - it's hands down my favorite lime scented a/s!
