Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Great shave! Congratulations on the score, those were some really good deals.

Maybe I missed it, what was the study for? Apnea?
 
I have no idea. Extremely fatigued and out of breath all the time. If I get a video up ever you'll hear me huffing and puffing. Never smoked either. Never been a good sleeper but that's what we're down to checking after the heart checked out. Bronchial dialator test showed some issues but my follow up isn't til the middle of September.
 
Great shave today Dave! It must have felt great to get cleaned up after all that. I hope you get things sorted out with your sleep.

We don't realize how important sleep is to overall body process. I am definitely not a medical professional, but a lot of issues related to sleep stem from oxygen exchange...or at least I have read that somewhere. Either way...hope you get things fixed up! I'll say a prayer for you.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Lots of people with far worse issues then me. I'm about through with all the tests that have been going on for months now and just ready to get on with it.
 
Nice read Dave, and great pick up of the Storybook Soapworks soaps on the BST! About to use Hallward's Dream for the first time tomorrow and looking forward to it!

I have a sample of Hallward's Dream that Chris CMH737 gave me. I know many of you are not sandalwood fans...but this is something different. I LOVE that scent!
 
Date: Saturday August 18th

Razor: Rockwell 6c Plate 4
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (2)
Brush: Stirling 2 Band Synthetic
Soap: LNHC Somali Rose
Aftershave 1: Thayers Cucumber
Aftershave 2: Aqua Velva

So with LNHC’s coming out with her new line of soaps and looking forward to my order coming in, I wanted to revisit her Somali Rose. I love the scent and performance was good so was anxious to see if I still got irritation when using it as I had previously. The Amber and Tobacco doesn’t seem to bother me as I remember and will try that tomorrow perhaps to confirm. Well got a nice lather going on the face and it was feeling good. Did my first pass with the Rockwell and GSB on it’s 2nd shave and all seemed ok. As I’m lathering for the 2nd pass I begin to get some light tingling. By the time I’m doing pass 2 I can feel my face lighting up……….dang, it is the soap (perhaps Rose FO or EO). Hate that as I do enjoy the scent and her soaps. At least there are other scents to enjoy. Decide that and extra clean up on the neck will be skipped today to avoid adding more irritant to the face. After a nice rinse with water and some Thayers is applied I feel things calming down. 2 Splashes of Aqua Velva and I’m feeling fresh and comfortable. Guess this soap will go to the Pif pile.

Yup...I pretty much stay away from anything with rose in it for that very reason. It's really sad, because all these rose scented soaps really appeal to me. So when I am looking at scents and ingredients (ingredients less so if it is down toward the bottom) if I see rose in it...I stay away. Otherwise great shave Dave. And loving the Aqua Velva bottle!
 
Major bummer about the reaction! I guess you could just buy a lighter scented soap from her and stuff rose petals up your nostrils for effect? ?

I hope the incoming soaps work better for you!

bummer about the Rose. SWMBO can use it but I’ve always been a tad scared to try it due to how many folks have reactions to it. I think it was either cmh737 or Clyde72 that sent me a pick of Rose and black currant for the boss when she started this wonderful hobby.

Well I decided before my new acquisitions from Lisa's Natural Herbal Creations comes in I should see how my reaction is to the premium formula. I suspect it is just the rose.............at least that is the hope as I like her soaps and as a vendor of the Cadre want to support her going forward. So I decided to use the Amber & Tobacco today and see if I had a similar reaction as yesterday. Bottom line is I see no issues with this scent and am I happy !!!! Well, I have mixed feelings because I LOVED the Somali Rose scent and know now it is a no go for me, but at least her other offerings are fair game so I'm looking forward to the Mail Call Tuesday. Had a nice comfortable shave and topped it off with some Thayers and Avon Spicy. Why didn't I get into these vintage Avons sooner. No worries, I'm on board with them now and glad I found ones that I like the post splash feel afterwards that can be found so cheap if wanted. If you gave up on my VLOG because I said I quit after a few attempts feel free to check the thread again as I did finally get one to post. Not on par with our professionals but some of us are just here to make the pros look better. Lol

Good stuff Dave! I have some Avon Spicy that was PIF'd to me by Pete (Labrax), and it's some great juice!

On the videos...your first video was excellent! Like Don said, you have good presence on camera, very few verbal pauses (something I struggle with mightily), and from a technical standpoint, good video quality.

Something that would improve your videos immediately and is a pretty easy fix, (in concept), would be to get the camera eye level or just above eye level; lighting looked good, and the audio, if I remember correctly was pretty good. All in all, an very VERY good start to your VLOG.

Thanks, I hear you about the height of the video. I have 2 shelves. The top one is a no go unless you want to see my bald patches as they grow and that one where the phone is at the best angle I could find and is simply resting on a boxed Palmolive shave stick. I'll figure something out at some point though. Thanks for the input.

On the Avon, I now have and like the Tai Winds, Spicy and Island Lime. Liking there feel and scents enough to start getting more with Windjammer, Leather,etc,etc being hunted.
 
Glad to know other scents by LNHC are good to go. And yes...we want to see the bald spots!
