Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

What was your Slim set to? I always seem to get inferior shaves from my slims. No issues with the Fatboy though.
Interesting you ask. I always got better shaves with the with the Slim but do have a Fatboy I may try again. Slim was on 5. I didn't post this but I was getting different shaves from the Delta Echo Slim and the doors would hang up on blades intermittently too, verse my other untreated Birth Year Slim which was always like silk. Sent it back to Jay who said nothing was wrong but he took apart and reassembled anyway to be sure. When it came back doors worked without issue but haven't compared it to the other slim again. It may be the razor. Will need to give the other a spin and compare to see. They've sat unused since I got into the modern razors. Frustrating as I love the look of the Cubano and it is my Birth year and Quarter.

In comparison to my Fatboy, my Slim shaves are considerably less smooth though the efficiency seems about the same.

Interesting. I knew KJ preferred the Fatboy and now you too. Most usually prefer the slim. Wish I was with the cool kids group but always preferred the looks and heft of the Fatboy but shaves of the slim. Of course with preferring the heft of a razor now with modern razors I should try the Fatboy again.

All I know is I see some nice looking hardware over the last few days from you and if I wasn't post soap buys and in the middle of a brush buy, I might just try to slip in a Timeless.

I know you'd love it and it's your fault I have Revolution soap and aftershave on it's way to me

It’s all what you like that matters anyway. The Slim still has tons of fans.
Besides many of those polls probably have some bias to them. The Slim was produced for 8 years, the Fatboy for 4, and the Toggle for 1 (if I remember correctly from what I have read on the InterWebz). The rarity of the Toggle and Fatboy vs. the Slim could be a source of unconscious bias (or possibly conscious bias, but I want to give the benefit of the doubt) against the Slim. RAD is a thing.

The shaves I get with my Slims are just as good as the shaves I get from my Fatboys. If I could only keep one type, I would keep the Slims and sell the Fatboys since I would get more money from selling the Fatboys.

Razor: Rockwell 6c Gunmetal Plate R5
Blade: Pol Silver SI (1)
Brush: Paladin Harlequin Chief
Soap: Storybook Soapworks Hook
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Storybook Soapworks Hook

Well for this mornings shave I decided to use the new software that arrived was well as the 6c that came in. I have the 6s and like the razor accept for it's looks which are very industrial. The 6c seems to have a little less heft no doubt because of the zamak and chromed head with a Stainless Steel handle verses the 6s being all Stainless Steel. I also put a new Pol Silver SI in from a new pack hoping to eliminate possible causes of the irritation from the previous shave. The Hook is a pleasant scent and lathers great. Gave great performance as I've read from others Journals. Post shave face feel is nice from the soap and Splash which is a non alcohol base and looks like milk. No greasy feel so I was quite pleased with it. Overall a great close shave with NO irritation and feeling like a I can conquer the world.......................well I'm ready for what the day throws at me anyway. Hope all the Cadre have a stupendous day !!

PS-I will say the soap tubs seem to be flimsy or cheap compared to others but that's not a big deal really. Just feels like lighter or thinner material that could crack/split easily.

Good thoughts too Doug. Really when it comes down to it we all have what feels right and good for our faces/skin and our beard growth and removal. We need to go with that mindset recognizing these variations will cause us all to not always agree on choices in hardware and software but in the end the choices we make are for us and not others. Thanks for your reading and commenting.

Great shave today Dave! That Storybook Soap base is really good stuff. And it looks like you are enjoying your Paladin!

Nice Gumby! (And Pokey) I need to find a figure to hold my razors for pics. Been looking, but haven’t found the right one yet.

Nice shave Dave!

Do you have any initial impressions on the aggressiveness (or whatever you want to call it) as between the various plates of 6s and the 6c? For example, I’ve heard some folks say that the 5 on the 6s is milder than the 5 on the 6c. No idea if there is any truth to this...
