Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Excellent shave Dave! You’ve made me bump up NO a couple spots of the AD list.
Happy I was able to assist. And happy the soap went to good home!

Thanks for the comments Guys
I believe the splash on Brut has no menthol, and is slightly weaker scent than the aftershave. But it’s also way cheaper!

Im liking the Rockwell so far, and if you say to like the Timeless better, then im really looking forward to trying it!

Well I like them both for what they are. I prefer a milder razor and I've seen you post you do too. The Timeless OC will bite you if you don't pay attention but the efficiency is just spot on without a doubt, at least for me and it isn't aggressive per say. You just have to pay attention. At least I do and enjoy it's shaves for closeness and longevity.

Razor: Timeless .68 OC
Blade: Pol Silver SI (2)
Brush: Paladin Harlequin
Soap: CFG Summer Storm
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: CFG Summer Storm

Busy work day today as a Stripper..............................Had 2 floors to strip and re-wax. Had ya there didn't I? Came home to some mowing of the yard and filling the bird feeders. Aaaaah then a Ghost Town Barber Shower and a simple quick shave before a beer and the forum. Hope things are going well for NurseDave today and that the rest of the Cadre is having a stellar day !!

Excellent shave today Dave! Tell me about the Alcoholado Marvilla? Is it just straight up witch hazel?

Don't know. Recommended to me by GlazedBoker used by his family for generations and I enjoy it. Not good at reviews and never looked at what's in it. Here's labels. Hope it helps. Sorry I'm useless.............

Oh, that’s much different than what I found. I bought it to do a comparison between it and regular cheap witch hazel.

What you have looks nice. Has bay oil and menthol in it, along with WH and some other stuff.

Now I feel dumb for spending $10 for 8oz of regular Witch Hazel.

$10?! Holy smokes man! I paid like $3 for 16oz.

Ya gotta get the 70 I told you. Have some already in a travel scope bottle to send to you with Timeless razor so you can try it out and review it.

My regular WH is $1.50 for 16oz. I buy the generic mostly. I have a bottle of Dickinson’s that was $3.50 for 16oz. I saw this Humphreys at Walmart and thought is was what Dave told me about before, so for the sake of science, I bought it to compare them.

That stuff that you have Dave looks like it has some good stuff in it. O might have to try to get some.

Fun read here. Not sure how you use that Summer Storm. That was the first soap that when I bought it I didn't even lather it. The scent was deplorable to me. From what I hear though it is a love or hate. Not a lot of in between.

Craigs got some good tutorials in the video section that can help you. Try the search function.........All kidding aside I guess I'm in the minority as some days I like it and some I don't. With all rhe others I have, if I knew someone that was in the LOVE it camp I'd get it to them. Meanwhile some days I give it a run.

Good reads! Groomatorium had a moving sale and I almost picked up that Summer Storm. I didn’t know it was polarizing.

Razor: Delta Echo Cubano Slim
Blade: Pol Silver SI (3)
Brush: Paladin Harlequin
Soap: Sudsy Soapery Uplift
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Pinaud Citrus Musk

Playing with vintages for a while so Got the slim out with the Pol Silver SI. After whipping up a nice lather with the Sample from Don (I dig this scent) and got to work. After 1st pass I was feeling some irritation and thought it may be the soap. Doing 2nd pass and feeling rough I started to question the blade. Switched to a Bolzano with only 2 shaves on it for the third pass. Definitely felt rough and don't know if it was the soap or the blade. Will keep a check on it. Citrus Musk got things settled down.

Have a great day Cadre !!

Sounds like a rough shave. I hope that tomorrow's is better. I also hope that it wasn't the soap causing the irritation.

I'm sure you will get the shave figured out... hopefully the soap isn't the culprit.

Sorry for the rough shave...beautiful gear though. Like that Cubano color scheme!

Thanks for the comments guys. I may wait try another razor Saturday morning to see if things settle down.

What was your Slim set to? I always seem to get inferior shaves from my slims. No issues with the Fatboy though.

Interesting you ask. I always got better shaves with the with the Slim but do have a Fatboy I may try again. Slim was on 5. I didn't post this but I was getting different shaves from the Delta Echo Slim and the doors would hang up on blades intermittently too, verse my other untreated Birth Year Slim which was always like silk. Sent it back to Jay who said nothing was wrong but he took apart and reassembled anyway to be sure. When it came back doors worked without issue but haven't compared it to the other slim again. It may be the razor. Will need to give the other a spin and compare to see. They've sat unused since I got into the modern razors. Frustrating as I love the look of the Cubano and it is my Birth year and Quarter.
