Is it really prominent on the finish @NurseDave ? Normally that buttery tatse is a combination of peat smoke and apple, lemon, oak and brown sugar notes coming from the barrel its aged in. I have no idea what from Islay is mishmashed in there. You don't mind a little "butter" but just like you don't want a super buttery chardonnay (I don't anyway) you don't want a buttery whiskey. I say cleanse your palate, next dram drop a 1/2 teaspoon of water in it and see where it goes.A dram of Smokey Joe tonight. And @Somnos I’m getting that buttered popcorn on the finish again.
I would find that unsettling. I have however never come across that in any whiskey I have had to date so...I just find it interesting
Happy Belated Anniversary!!View attachment 37740
This was our bottle for last night's Anniversary dinner. It was a highly acidic white with lots of minerals and stone fruit. It was an excellent food wine, and totally worth the price.
I like Old Fashioneds, and prefer them to Bourbon any other way.Any Old Fashioned lovers? Thoughts on it vs just straight bourbon? Seems simple enough to make.
