TV Shows

Been watching The Rook on Starz. I was really ify after the first episode and after the second episode I was on the fence. But for some reason the third episode really caught me and now I am in full watch mode. It's a slow build drama/mystery with bouts of action. Based off the book of the same name by Daniel O'Malley. This series seems that it lends itself to a good bokk...I just might pick it up.

The story starts off with a woman that wakes up in the rain and can't remember who she is with several dead strewn about. She tries to figure out who she is and what has happened. This is a world were certain individuals have abilities. Think X-Men...but more subtle. I am only about four episodes in...and I don't think I am ruining it for anyone...but the main subject centers around human trafficking...specifically the buying and selling of people with abilities.

Definitely worth the watch if you have Starz.

Don--the book is good. Read it a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I recommend that you pick it up! There is also sequel, which I also enjoyed (but not as good as the original). I'd definitely check out the series if I had Starz...

I have two episodes left and will likely finish it up tonight. Based on this TV series I am DEFINITELY going to read the book now. This show is killer!

Watched the Amazon pilot for Oasis Fromm a couple years ago. Don’t know why it was never picked up! Had me hooked by the end of it!

Started watching Pennyworth last night. It's a series that is the Origin Story for Alfred (Batman's Butler) on the EPIX Channel. Basically the premise is that Alfred Pennyworth is a British SAS soldier and veteran of a war (three episodes in they don't say which war...I initially thought it was WWII but it didn't fit with what they were saying and it quite possibly may be the Malayan Emergency) and now resides in 1960s London. He starts his own Security Business and is basically working to fight a secret organization that wants to overthrow the British Government. To be honest...I am only three episodes into it...and this might be the best thing that DC has put out (except for maybe Constantine...the movie not the TV series). It's got great acting, a really good plot, and a few twists and turns. There is a seriousness to it with a good amount of levity to break it all up. I am very impressed. The down side to this is that it's on EPIX. So if you really want to watch it...you need to have cable that carries it, or you can watch it on Sling or Playstation Vue, or you can subscribe to the stand alone Epix stream by itself.

Either way...if Batman is your jam and you like origin stories...Pennyworth is for you!

I stopped watching The Walking Dead around season 5. Starting from the beginning again.
Not sure if it was season five or not when I stopped watching it. I think it was somewhere around there. But I really didn't like the direction some of the characters were going and the damn commercials were awful. I might watch it again if I can find it available to stream.

A couple of shows I'm enjoying quite a lot right now -

The Reluctant Landlord
Lodge 49

Also, I'm ticked off at Netflix for cancelling The OA, it was a top drawer show which was just getting started.

The OA is a really good show! Haven't watched season 2 yet but plan on it. Netflix has been on a canceling spree lately.

Totally worth a watch, and they really kept it interesting, it didn't go anywhere near where I expected it to. Even if it is the last season, totally worth a watch. I'm hoping all the people grumbling about it's cancellation will lead to it getting picked up somewhere, they have a lot of story yet to tell, and up to now it's been really amazing.

The wife and I are really enjoying Daredevil on Netflix. Also a guilty pleasure for us is the show Big Brother. The finale is this week. We also like Survivor.

So I’ve been keeping myself occupied morning partially by going through all the Marvel shows on Netflix as I can. No word I’ve seen yet on how long they’ll be around so...

Anyway, finished up the latest season of Jessica Jones (meh), watched Punisher (really pretty good up until the last episode of the latest season), and have started watching Daredevil (proving pretty decent so far). Most of it has been pretty decent, HBOification and glaring plot/action holes aside.

We've been really enjoying Giri/Haji I'd sort of given up on the BBC producing anymore top drawer shows, but this is one of the best shows I've seen. Highly recommend, but it does touch on some areas that some might not be comfortable with.

The wife and I are on a quest to watch all the Star Wars stuff in chronological order. We made it through the first two awful episodes (or movies if you will) but now are watching the TV show "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Half way through the first season (there are six of them) and I half to say that I am pleasantly surprised at how good they are. I actually sort of like Anikan Skywalker (a whole lot better in these than in the Phantom Menace and in Attack of the Clones.

On a related note...watching The Mandalorian also on Disney+. A pretty darn good show!
