Okay...The wife and I just watched Pen15 on Hulu. It was one of these shows that kind of sucked us in and we were not expecting to binge it. Let me start out by saying that the only way I can really describe this is "inappropriate." I know this casts this show in a negative light...and believe me this is not my intention...but it's one of those shows. Okay, getting that out of the way...The wife and I really like the show.
So here is the premise...two actresses (Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle...I don't expect you to know who they are...because I certainly didn't) play themselves as 13 year old girls in the seventh grade. The actresses are 32 in real life. Anyway...the show is about them being best friends and how they deal with home, school, boyfriends, and life in general. The writing is pretty good and according to my wife, while highly embellished, most of the show is indeed what middle school girls go through. This show isn't for everyone...but the wife and I laughed our butts off, were shocked, embarrassed, and many other emotions while watching this show.
What I find really interesting is that while the main characters are being played by 32 year old women, the rest of the cast is age appropriate. Meaning all the seventh graders are being played by kids and not adults.
Okay...I don't expect any of you to be excited about this show...but I have to say...it really caught my attention.
