There and Back Again, A Wet-Shaver's Tale

5/22 SOTD

Razor
: Jernbolaget
Brush: Trotter Handcrafts Immunity
Cream: Esbjerg Grapefruit
Aftershave: Via Barberia Fructi Aftershave Serum

it has been a while since I used a straight, so a favorite was grabbed today. One of the more rare Swedes, this ivory clad Jernbolaget beauty is a truly fantastic razor. Pulled the Esbjerg cream out of obscurity as well, and paired it with the Fructi serum. I'd probably put Esbjerg up with the best creams in terms of performance. Baum.be might beat it out in slickness, but I think I get more cushion from Esbjerg, which balances it out.

What a great shave! Don't get me wrong, I love my DE's and SE's, but using nothing but those for the last two or three weeks has helped me gain(or maybe regain) an appreciation for the savage elegance of the straight razor. Interestingly enough, it seems to have also helped me clean up my technique with the straight a bit, as I was being more mindful of visualizing the edge and angle. I did let my attention slip once, and got a nice bite on the chin for it, but it was a small price to pay. Three passes left me with a delightfully smooth face, and a shot of the Fructi aftershave brought it all up to the next level.

Thanks for reading and have a great night!

Whew, how time slips by. Hey folks, I hope everyone is doing well. Still shaving daily, though I’ve mostly been breaking out the DE’s for the time saving factor, and have been using the same soap/as combo for about a month, which I never thought I’d do lol. Work has slowed down a bit, but I’ve taken on a couple projects for family so time is still a precious commodity.

I’ve also been house hunting diligently during the toughest time to buy a house that I can remember, and I’m happy to say that it looks like that has finally paid off. The 7th house that I put an offer on accepted yesterday morning. Inspection is on Friday and then(assuming no red flags pop up on the inspection)comes the jumping through paper hoops and the fun waiting part. If all goes well I should be moving in by late September or early October.

The second thing that I’ll be doing, right after taking a chainsaw to the prolific foliage on the fence line, will be to set up the work shop and finally turn some brush handles!

Congrats Eric! I hope the escrow and inspections go smoothly. Great to see you pop in dude!

Wow, it has been a long time. Seems like I say that every time I post here now. Figured I had to toss in a birthday SOTD, so here goes.

Razor: Max Sprecher
Brush: Rubberset 400 knockoff w/APShave Gelousy fan
Soap: Ethos Grooming Vanilla Safi
Aftershave: Figaro Dopobarba
EDP: Guerlain L'Homme Ideal EDP

A shave for the ages. These are some of my favorite products and most speak for themselves. My Gelousy fan is my absolute favorite badger knot of all time, the Sprecher only needs to be looked at to know why it is well loved, and the very limited Vanilla Safi from Frank, which is just amazing. I remember @dangerousdon mentioning the aftershave a ways back, and was unable to find it available anywhere, so I had IB send me a notification when it was back in stock. The notification arrived a few months later, long after I had forgotten about it, but I ordered a couple of bottles anyway and am happy to say that Don did no exaggerate. This is some outstanding stuff for sure. The aftershave is strong enough that I could have left it at that, but just had to finish it up with some Ideal EDP. If you haven't tried L'Homme Ideal EDP, and can find it, just buy a bottle and you're welcome. 🤪

Three easy passes for a delightful DFS+. I haven't felt the need to chase the baby for some time, and am generally just happy to have time to get a good shave in. A splash of aftershave layered with the EDP, and I smell amazing.

I'm happy to say that the workshop has been back in action for a bit, though I haven't had nearly as much time to get down there as I'd like. Gratitude to those who are waiting for handles to be made, and to the PIF winners, for your patience. Hopefully things will stabilize enough that I'm able to spend more time around here, but until then I hope everyone is doing well and many blessings to all of you.

Happy birthday! Glad you’re well Eric! Nice to see you pop in this week 👍

Good to see you posting Eric and Happy Birthday!

Those Max Sprecher razors are amazing! One day I will have one.

Happy Birthday Eric and I can’t wait till your back at work in your shop my friend!

Shelter is crucial.

And to you and yours, Eric.

Thanks guys!

Now that's a shave! But it's the aftershave that ties it all together! Happy Birthday my friend!
