There and Back Again, A Wet-Shaver's Tale

What if you decide to keep them all?
I’ll probably end up keeping all the DE’s. I don’t have a lot, and out of those there are 3-4 that I’d use consistently and wouldn’t give up. The rest are mostly cheapies that wouldn’t really even be worth selling, and one or two that I keep around for sentimental reasons, like my birth year black beauty Super Speed, which is a dead ringer for the razor I learned to shave with.

The straights are another story. I’ve already gone through them once and grabbed about 6 to sell. I’ll probably get more serious about letting go of more of them once I really think about it, and then there are the 15-20 that are in various stages of restoration that I really need to get to before deciding their final disposition.

Great for PIF-ing to friends to get them introduced to the hobby!!
I have an old, beat up ball end Tech that I pass out to people who show interest in traditional wet shaving. It has been passed out three times, all three guys fell in love with the process and ordered modern DE's, and it was returned every time. That is one that will make the cut just because it is so darn user friendly that I will keep using it for that purpose...until someone finally keeps it lol.

Razor
: IN-JEC-TAH!
Blade: ?
Brush: Switchback 400 w/Gelousy knot
Soap: Ethos Grooming Greenfresh
Aftershave: Ethos Grooming Greenfresh
EDT: Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet

I was pretty sure the injector would make the cut, but had to be sure. Yep, it's still a keeper. I'm still not sure what blades these are. They were given to me a few years ago by a friend who way overordered some from Amazon, and I've used them ever since. Not much more needs to be said about how amazing Ethos soaps are, and two passes and some clean up netted me a fantastic DFS, though there was a bit of irritation from being too heavy handed with a new blade in the injector. It passed quickly and there is only smoothness. A few sprays of Blenheim Bouquet topped it all of beautifully.

Going through the rest of the SE's next to see which will stay and which will go. Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Razor
: O.R.E.N.
Blade: ProGuard
Brush: Genesis
Soap: B & M Latha Limon
Aftershave: Ethos Greenfresh

Dug deep into some stored items for today's shave. The brush was the one that started it all. The first shaving brush I ever turned, and thus dubbed Genesis. Limon is just a fantastic soap which hasn't been used in ages. I really miss B&M's Latha line. It is a great soap that performs well above it's price point, and Limon was my favorite scent from it, a very nice citrus rose. Anyway, on to the shave!

Today's contestant is the O.R.EN., and I have to tell you that this one was on the chopping block. I like it and it is a solid shaver, but like isn't enough for me to keep a razor anymore. Before putting it in the Sell box I decided to put the three dot head on, which is the most aggressive out of the three that come with the razor, and give it a final spin with the ProGuard that was already in it. Well, it is no longer going into the Sell box. That head and blade combination was magic. Two passes and some clean up left me with a stellar BBS, so this is another keeper.

There are still a few more SE's to go, so we'll see if any get sent away to a new home. Thanks for reading and have a great day!

That reminds me, I still need to try a Graham-Field Med Prep blade....
No, you don't! ;)

An Ace hardware blade in a broken Micromatic would feel better!

I am a survivor of the original "Blade From Hell" torture at B&B, and while the shave itself looked OK, it felt like shaving with an old chainsaw blade.

Never again!

That... is a vivid description lol.

Razor: Enders Speed Razor
Blade: Taconic
Brush: Sorrentino Turquoise
Soap: Barrister Reserve Lavender
Aftershave: Ethos Grooming Lavender Supreme

Next in the SE determination test is the Enders Speed razor. This one takes injector blades, but requires the addition of a shim which a friend was kind enough to send me. It felt like a lavender kind of day, so Barrister Reserve was called up.

Another excellent shave. Two passes with a bit of clean up left me with a wonderful BBS. The Enders is a keeper, and since they can be had for a song I might even get a backup or two. A nice splash of Ethos Lavender added to a very nice experience, and all is well.

O.R.E.N. update. The longevity of yesterday's shave was lacking. I usually get up for work at 4:30am, and I don't really care to get up any earlier to shave, so I shave in the evenings. Since I have to wear a mask at work, whisker growth can make that particular experience more annoying than it already is, so shave longevity is a fairly important issue. Long story less long, the O.R.E.N. might be on the chopping block after all.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Thanks Chris! The Enders is a fantastic shaver. As long as you have a way to shim the injector blade it is a great affordable SE option.

I do not, though I've thought about getting a few from the numerous give-aways that pop up now and then.
Where?

Razor: Parker Adjustable Injector
Blade: Taconic
Brush: Sorrentino Turquoise
Soap: Barrister Reserve Lavender
Aftershave: Ethos Grooming Lavender Supreme
EDT: Davidoff Cool Water Aquaman

I enjoyed the software from yesterday's shave so much that I went for a repeat. Up for love-it-or-leave-it determination was the Parker injector. I picked this one up because I loved the idea of a modern injector, and it proved to be a decent shaver.

As with previous shaves with this razor I had to go all the way to 5 right off the bat. This is kind of where it falls short for me. When I think of an adjustable I think of a razor that should go from mild to aggressive, and you pick something closer to one end or the other based on which works best for you. At 5, which is the highest setting, this is still a very mild razor. It is capable of delivering a BBS, but it takes more work than I like to get there, and I end up having to use some real pressure in a few trouble spots to get a close shave. Three passes left me with a BBS, but also with the feeling that I'd spent more effort with less enjoyment than I should have. As a result the Parker is now in the Sell box. A splash of Ethos Lavender and a few sprays of the Cool Water Aquaman cheered me up, and all is well. I generally avoid any frag that has a comic book hero on it, since most of the ones I've seen are pretty lousy, but this cheap freshie is good for the price.
