There and Back Again, A Wet-Shaver's Tale

Hope your back to work for good! Glad things are lookin up!
I'm glad you're well and could pop in for a second. Stay safe, hermano.
Good to hear from you and great news on the job front!
Good news brother!
good to hear from you Eric and glad you will be able to get back to work!
Thanks for checking in Eric and glad things are progressing in a positive way.
Awesome news on the shaving and job Eric!
Great news for work! And what a wonderful use of your free time!
Glad things are looking up, Eric. Welcome Back!

Thanks guys! First day back at work today, and it's going to take some time to get back into the rhythm, especially the getting up before 5:00am part. Work is following pretty rigid guidelines regarding Covid, so we are having our temp taken as soon as we walk in the door and have to wear a surgical mask all day. Not the most comfortable thing to do in a machine shop in summer, but I appreciate that they are looking out for their workers. Logged 10,000 steps while wearing steel-toe boots and it was good to get home, where I found a very nice surprise waiting for me from @MilkCrate.

Murphy & McNeil's Naid shave soap and balm. Thanks so much Tim! I love the apricot and freesia scent of this stuff and enjoy the performance as well. So after exercising and a shower, of course I grabbed it for today's shave.

SOTD 6/22/20

Razor: Feather SS
Blade: ProGuard
Brush: TSC 1st Anniversary
Soap: Murphy & McNeil Naid
Aftershave: Murphy & McNeil Naid balm

EDP: Guerlain Homme

2 1/2 pass DFS+. Love this stuff, and am seriously considering getting a bottle of the EDP to go with it, especially since a portion of every purchase goes to support Autism Care Today. The balm went on smooth and soaked in quickly, leaving my skin feeling very hydrated but not greasy at all as can often happen with balms. No reason to use a frag except that I really wanted to, so a few sprays of Guerlain Homme EDP capped the shave beautifully.

Off to do some relaxing before making an early night of it. I hope everyone is well, and I'm looking forward to doing some catching up in the journals over the next week. Have a great day!

Well, hello again. Just popping my head in the door to say I hope everyone is doing well before crashing for the night. I've been working 6-7 days a week plus overtime on weekdays, and between the heat and the hours I have about enough energy to make the next day's lunch and get my shower and shave in before planting myself on the couch and zoning out to anything that looks interesting enough to doze off to. I hope no one takes the previous sentence as any kind of complaint, as I'm grateful to be working and the paychecks following all this overtime are a wonderful thing. Keep being awesome Cadre, and I'll see you when I'm able.

Great to hear things are going well, even if exhausting. No worries on the time away, you know where the key is hidden.

Glad to hear from you Eric! Glad the work is humming along! Stop in when you can. Otherwise we will assume everything is A-O-K!

1/30/21 SOTD - 1st Kamisori shave
Razor: Inoue Tosuke Kamisori
Brush: Sorrentino Turquoise synthetic
Soap: CBL Orion Hammam Spa
Aftershave: CBL Aftershave Tonic
EDP: DUA Invasion of the Barbers

Wow, it has been far too long since I've posted. Quick general update; I'm still working at least 6 days a week, and am currently on midnights for about a month. I grew the beard out for several months, though I kept it lined up with the usual assortment of whisker assassination tools, and just recently shaved it off. The Feather SS was my weapon of choice for most of that time, and I've only recently started breaking out the traditional straights again. There have been a few additions to the den. Mostly frags, but some razors as well, including the kamisori that was used for today's(yesterday's?) shave. Today's soap was a blind buy. As soon as I discovered that Chris had come out with a new soap base I immediately jumped on a tub, as well as some of his post shave tonic and post shave oil. No reading of reviews necessary, just a pulled trigger and some impatient mailbox pacing until it arrived. But enough recap, on to the shave!

I watched the lathering tutorial by @BarberDave before using this soap, and I'm glad I did. It took some time, but what I ended up with was some amazing lather which provided an excellent surface for this new(to me) razor to skate over. The kamisori was honed before it was sent to me, and the guy put possibly the finest shaving edge I have ever used on it. Sharp enough to cut through even my adamantium strands with ease, yet also incredibly smooth. There is certainly a learning curve attached to the kamisori, and I ended up having to break tradition and use the Omote side on a few areas of my neck. I am still relearning my chops with the regular straight razor and the kamisori is a bit more alien than those, so there were a few small nicks, but for the most part it was an exceptional shave. I'll call it DFS+ since there were a couple spots on my neck that I couldn't find a great angle on which resulted in a bare amount of remaining stubble, but the areas that were BBS were incredible. It has been about 24 hours and I'm still in SAS-land. A bit of the CBL Tonic and a couple sprays of Invasion of the Barbers, and I was in my happy place.

I'd like to say that the star of the show was the kamisori, though while it was truly a great shaver it was Chris's products took the spotlight. It will take some more use for me to confirm, but this soap is probably already in my top 5, and might end up taking the #1 spot. Slickness, residual slickness, and post-shave face feel are all as good as or better than any soap or cream I've ever used. If I were to take any points away it would be for how long it took to get the lather the way I wanted it, but that is a pretty insignificant issue. The after shave tonic was also a fantastic product, and between the two my skin felt just wonderful.

If you actually read all the rambling before this, congratulations! You win...well...nothing. But congrats anyway. There will be posts of some of the new acquisitions forthcoming, aaand...there will also be a PIF. It will be a brush, and it will be soon. One that was previously turned, as the workshop is sadly still in storage at the moment, but I think some of you will like it. Thanks for reading and have a great night!
