Happy Halloween Everyone. I am up and moving way to early this morning. I am going to my Mom's house this morning to meet the maid. My wife and I grew tired of trying to keep her house clean so we got a maid. Unfortunately that means, I have to go and pick up for the maid. I will take Mom to lunch afterwards. Since I absolutely hate polishing brass, I antiqued my brass CG Everyday Razor. The process took about 15 minutes to complete. I think the patina turned out very well with the added bonus of no more polishing. I really like this CG razor. I am a sucker for efficient mild razors and this one ticks the boxes. If I do my part, I can catch the baby with ease. I hope everyone has a fantastic Halloween.

October 2021 Recap

During the month I rotated through my OC razors. Most of the razors have been in my collection for a long time so no real surprises. At the end of the month I went through 3 modern takes on the Gibbs adjustable razor. These were the Pearl Flexi, Rex Ambassador and Denali. All three razors are very similar. The Rex and Denali are roughly 2.5 times the price of the Pearl if you catch a sale. The Rex and Denali are very very similar. If you have one of the two in your collection that's probably good enough. The Pearl Flexi is a fantastic razor as well. Unlike the other two, it is plated price. I find it has less blade feel than the Rex. Once I mastered the additional weight the shaves were smooth and drama free. Given the price of the Flexi I would say it the best value of the three by a wide margin.

The biggest take away of the month was really becoming part of the TSC community. Thanks for the warm welcome and indulging my ramblings. I am looking forward to next month.

It’s nice to have most of the gang in one place again, Clint! The new razor looks great! Glad to hear you’ve got mom squared away cleaning-wise. Ikve said this before, you’re blessed to still have her in your life. Enjoy your Halloween! We’re expecting a raft of trick or treaters this evening.

Always like your monthly recap, Clint. When did you start the tradition?

Thank you Joseph. I started about 3 or 4 years ago. I took all my SOTD photos a week or more in advance. I had trouble remembering what I was supposed to use each day. So I got the calendar app to help me keep up with which was up next. The recap came from that.

Clint, I always enjoy following along on your shaving exploits. Your monthly summaries are the best.

Looks like bottle of Small Batch Shave Tonic is about empty. Let me know when you're ready for a new one. I can bring one for a meet up in Lexington sometime. I was in the shop where they make it a few weeks ago, and they still had some inventory.

I'm glad to hear you're spending plenty of time with your sweet Mom.

Hope all is well with you.

Thank you Jeff. My mother is not an easy person and honestly we were not that close for most of my life. I promised my Dad I would take care of her so I am trying my best.

Thank you Charlie. I poured the Small Batch Shave Tonic into a smaller spray bottle so I would not waste it. I still have a good bit left. We do need to meet up for some bourbon tasting. I love any excuse to enjoy bourbon.

Happy Monday, I think. I decided to pull out some of my favorite razors. The Feather AS-D2 is one of my favorite razors. I know the razor is mild with a narrow sweet spot. When I do my part, I get wonderfully close smooth shaves. I find the Feather keeps my technique sound. Three passes and touch ups caught the baby with ease. I just love this little razor. I hope everyone has a great Monday.

I’m glad you’re enjoying the AS-D2, Clint! I think you do it a disservice when you append the adjective “mild” in any way to it! It’s an incredibly efficient shaver once one discovers the narrow sweet spot. Many see that adjective and steer away from it! I know it’s a minor nit, but a straight shaving friend had been avoiding it for years for that reason. He borrowed mine, and spent a shave learning the sweet spot, and now has his own AS-D2 on its way to him.

Awesome recap as always, Clint. I echo your thoughts on the great vibe here at TSC.

Thank you Jeff. Perhaps you are right and a better description might me not aggressive. I think one would have to try very hard to cut yourself badly with the Feather AS-D2. If you don't find the narrow sweet spot it just doesn't work.

Happy Tuesday. I made it through another Monday. ;) @jgreenepa Jeff brought up my terminology of describing razors. I generally lump razors into one of two categories. Razors that are very likely to draw blood with the slightest error and those that I would have to really do something seriously stupid to get cut. Neither of these extremes have anything to do with how close the razor will shave. Over the years, I have come to realize that I can get about the same quality of shave with any razor. Razors with small sweet spots require me to maintain the correct angle more closely. So I will describe razors as aggressive (likely to draw blood) and non aggressive ( likely to not draw blood).

The Feather AS-D2 is a non aggressive razor with a very narrow sweet spot. When I do my part, I get a wonderfully close and smooth shave. The shave is just as close and the razor is just as efficient as any in my collection assuming I maintain the correct angle. I have the AS-D2 dialed in and on auto pilot. Three passes and touch ups tucked the baby in with ease. I did have to buff my lower right neck but that is not unusual. I went all in on Bay Rum this morning with a splash of Grand Bay Rum aftershave and a spritz of Ogallala Bay Rum Cologne. I just love Bay Rum. Even more importantly, my wife loves the scent of Bay Rum. :) I hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday.

Lovely shave, Clint! I apologize for yesterday’s comment. I just really like the AS-D2, and it’s clear you do as well. The M word in reference to this razor can tend to push the wrong button for me! Apologies again! Beautiful photo with a great recap!
