The Heysi Missive

It took 3-1/2 weeks......but I finally have a computer at work!!!!

First order of business.....add The Shaving Cadre to my favorite bar.

Now to look into an external drive to back up all my drawings each day so if this happens again....I'm not screwed again.

As IT people say, an on-site back-up isn't a back-up.
My boss and I discussed this. It's going to be an external drive that only gets connected to back up the engineering files. As soon as its backed up....disconnected and stored in a locked drawer. We're not losing more than a few days of work from now on.

I mean like fire n stuff.

If we're dealing with a fire, the external backups will save us. The proposed inner office backup is to prevent the current situation....which is hackers holding 4 months of drawing files hostage.
My work is looking at moving to the cloud for reasons of speed and simplicity for the computer backups but i have never trusted their IT to back up my stuff anyhow and i have always done it myself. i always back my drawings up 3 times - i have done over 20,000 of them.
One is on a big USB stick that travels with me, the other is on work's server and one of course on my laptop SSD, which is my preferred way of working and which comes home with me every night. Work has flooded in the past...
Overkill? Maybe. But i know how browned off i'd be if 4 months of my gear went missing.

Hope you can re-create the stuff you lost.

Oh, and that laptop has work's preferred 'protection' on it - and i have to accede to that since they paid for the machine, but it also has the stuff i use for my own machines on it too, which i consider superior and use for the ones i have at home.

Non shave journal entry:

Today is my 30th wedding anniversary. And it's a work day....so we went out last night and visited one of the "immersive" art installations here in Vegas. It's called Area 15 and it's...... interesting. Lots to see and do. No charge to go in and look so we just wandered around and checked everything out. We have plans to go back and do some of the ticketed things. Then we went to dinner at the Mexican restaurant (Casa Don Juan) everyone in town says is the best....and they're right!! Gave the wife a collectable box from the cruise ship we took on our honeymoon and gave her a bracelet that is a heart intertwined with and infinity symbol.

Here we are at Area 15..
