Shave Time!
Razor: Fatboy
Blade: Voskhod (?)
Brush: Stirling Boar
Soap: RR Santal Royale
AS: Aqua Velva Ice Blue
Really switched things up today for the first shave back after using the Assured razor and blade. I grabbed the Fatboy loaded with a Voskhod and 2 new items to the den. This was the first spin with my new Stirling Boar brush and last night I grabbed a bottle of Aqua Velva Ice Blue from Rite Aid.
The Fatboy is still giving me trouble on the neck, but not above the jawline for some reason. I guess I just can't find the angle. I also should probably try a different blade. At this point I have no idea how many shaves are on any of the blades currently loaded in my razors. I'm sure I could go back through my journal and figure it out, but I'm lazy.
The Stirling Boar is the first boar brush I've ever used. My initial thoughts are that it definitely has more backbone than any of my other brushes, and is much softer on the face than I thought it would be. It shed a ton on it's first lather, at least 7 hairs, so hopefully that stops. I didn't really get any kind of an animal funk off of it, but I didn't at first with my Wild West Brushworks badger either. So after my shave I left it lathered up in a bowl to soak all day. I'll probably use this for the next few shaves to get better acquainted with it.
The Aqua Velva was surprisingly good too. I'm awful at describing scents and picking out notes, but I can for sure that I got a slight powder note mixed with maybe a musk. I dunno lol, either way it was pleasant. It also contains some menthol, but nothing like what is offered by most artisan AS splashes offered. It is a very light and short lived menthol sensation, but again, pleasant. The strength on the scent isn't very strong, and not very long lasting. About 4 hours later all I can smell is the Santal Royale scent from the soap.
Overall the shave was weird. Definitely comfortable during the process. Anything would be after those ATG passes with the Assured. But the result was BBS above the jawline and DFS- below. The difference has to be technique related I would assume. I might go back to the Rockwell tomorrow. We'll see what happens.
In Other News....
The wife is coming down with something again. She had a fever, a cough, and body aches last night. Sounds flu-like but hopefully just a cold that passes quick. I had to run out to get her some cold medicine last night and that's when I snuck in the bottle of Aqua Velva. Sneaky ?.
Willie World:
Willie is happy that his momma stayed home with him today so he could snuggle on the couch in some blankets. It's still in the 20's here, although next week it will hit the high 50's. This weather is weird!
