Steve's Journal: The Saga Continues....

Nice shave Steve and a VERY nice looking setup for the shave. Hope you get the FB tweaked to where you want it.

Thanks Dave! I think I finally got it adjusted perfectly. I’m really happy as this was my grandfather’s daily driver for years. Pretty cool to be able to continue to use it!

Shave Time!

Razor: G-2 Fatboy
Blade: Voskhod (2)
Brush: Stirling Synthetic
Soap:
WSP Blackbeard
AS 1: Stirling Tea Tree Witch Hazel & Aloe
AS 2: Fine L'Orange Noir

Quick turnaround time as I decided to get in a morning shave to see how it flows with the regular morning routine. All in all it went pretty well and I wasn't late for work!

After making another small adjustment to the Fatboy last night, I think I have both sides almost completely equal. Maybe one more small tweak and it will be perfect, but I might leave it the way it is since it's so close and I don't want to risk breaking anything. I went with setting 4 again, but only did a WTG and XTG instead of WTG and ATG. There was less than 12 hours in between shaves so I didn't want to overdo it. Walked away with just a little irritation and DFS+/BBS- all over. Can't complain about that!

I went with the synthetic brush today since I didn't have time to really soak my badger. I'll plan better for that tomorrow. Also pulled out the Blackbeard to see how it paired with my Tea Tree/L'Orange Noir concoction. What a great combo all around! And with the single digit temperature this morning, I got a menthol blast just by walking out to my car lol!

I very much enjoyed getting in a morning shave and think I'll try to stick to this routine whenever I can.

Have to cut this entry a little short since I'm sneaking it in at work while no one is looking!

Shave Time!

A few hours later.....

Razor: G-2 Fatboy
Blade: Voskhod (2)
Brush: WWBW Jingle 2 band badger
Soap: WSP Barbershop
AS: WSP Barbershop

Another quick morning shave today. Got everything done and cleaned up just in time to run out the door. I do enjoy these morning shaves. Although the quality of today's shave was a bit subpar. I'm not sure if it was just a bad approach with my passes, or me rushing around, or possibly just a bad blade/razor pairing. I walked away CCS on the neck and DFS everywhere else. I'm sure no one else can tell, but I can. I went with a 2 pass WTG/ATG with no clean up. I think maybe the lack of clean up had something to do with it. I'll also be trying another blade to see if that changes anything. Otherwise, the Fatboy is a smooth shaver and I'm really happy I'm able to use it again.

In Other News....
Not much going on this week, which is nice.

Willie World:
Willie is cold and doesn't like it! The temps are back in the double digits today though, so he's happy about that I'm sure. We're looking forward to warmer weather so we can start taking him for extended walks and try to build his strength back up.

No, I didn’t see that one. But I’m on the 3017 anyway.
Keep an eye on the thread. It might be ready to go to someone new when you are done with your 3017. It has samples of every scent they currently offer.

Shave Time!

Razor: G-2 Fatboy
Blade: Wilkinson Sword (1)
Brush: WWBW Jingle 2 Band Badger
Soap: Razorock Blue Fougere
AS: Razorock Blue Fougere

I'm really enjoying the morning shaves, but I had another less than stellar shave today. It was better than yesterday's, I'm BBS above the jawline and DFS below. I just can't figure out why its such a difference on the neck all of a sudden. I"m wondering if it has something to do with shaving in the morning. I remember hearing before that shaving in the morning can be different from shaving at night but I can't remember why. Maybe it's all in my head. Anyway...the Wilkinson Sword blade was a good choice. It's a nice smooth blade and seemed plenty sharp enough. I've never used one before, so I wasn't sure what to expect.

I should be receiving the $1 razor for the challenge tomorrow or Saturday, so I'll be able to jump in with the other guys there soon. I'm debating on whether my first video should be done with the $1 razor, or the shavette....we'll see. I still have to figure out how to get my phone to sit at the proper angle before I video anything.

In Other News....
Temps went up to almost 60 today, but we got a lot of rain with it. Hopefully the rain moves out before the temps drop down to the 20's tomorrow.

Willie World:
Willie is enjoying the higher temps, but also hates the rain! He was extra playful this morning, probably a sign that he wasn't freezing his butt off when he woke up!

Videoooo yessss.

Shave Time!

Razor: Rockwell 6c
Blade: Voskhod (?)
Brush: WWBW Jingle 2 Band Badger
Soap: Atomic Age Bay Rum
AS: Atomic Age Bay Rum

Quick (and late) entry...

Decided to switch up the razor and went for the Rockwell. This thing just rocks. Got a almost 100% BBS (no overestimation today!) and it was very comfortable. I think I'll save the Fatboy for special occasions, or revisit it at a lower setting. It just isn't as comfortable or close of a shaver as the Rockwell. It might also just need some adjusting to.

I also used a new soap and AS this morning. NurseDave was kind enough to send me a tub and bottle of Atomic Age Bay Rum. This stuff is STRONG! (or as Chris Noir likes to say, stronk LOL) I really enjoy the scent once lathered. Off the tub it smells almost like oregano, I'm assuming that's the bay leaf. Once lathered it all comes together nicely. It's very similar to the WSP ugly Bay Rum I PIF'd to Don the Dangerous, but I think the WSP had more lime where this one has more bay leaf. All in all I'm a fan. The scent is very strong on the soap, probably a 3.5 out of 5, which is fine with me. The stronger the better. The AS is a perfect match, scent and strength. And it is very long lasting. 5 hours later it's still going strong. This is good stuff. The performance was also great. Good residual slickness and a quick load/lather. It took a little more water than I'm used to using, but I made the adjustment and it was well worth it. Fantastic soap.
