Steve's Journal: The Saga Continues....

Shave Time!

Redemption shave...kind of...

Razor:
Razorock Tech II
Blade: Feather
Brush: Stirling Kong Synthetic
Soap: WSP Barbershop
AS: WSP Barbershop

After last night’s bloodletting I decided ti play it safe with the Feather loaded Tech II. This combination just works for me and didn’t disappoint. I did cause some lingering irritation to flare up, but otherwise it was a smooth close shave. DFS+ all around.

My multiple AD’s have been kicking into high gear with all the great shave pics and new acquisitions recently. Gonna be hard to hold off until after the holidays to pick some new gear up!

Willie Update:

He’s having a rough day today. Pretty wobbly on his feet and generally uncomfortable. We’re thinking he just over did it this weekend and he’ll be getting some extra rest this week.

It's hard to keep our dogs in check...especially when they seem so happy. But a recovering Willie needs to take it easy!

I just read your journal cover to cover! Excellent on all fronts! Glad to hear Willie is moving right along!

Shave Time!

Razor: Stirling DE3P6
Blade: Parker (5?)
Brush: Kingsley Pure Badger
Soap: Oleo Windy City Barbershop
AS: RR Blue
I have about 10 samples that were sent to me a few months ago that I still haven’t tried so I decided to pull out the Oleo Windy City Barbershop tonight. I also tried out the scuttle that I recieved from Doug’s PIF.

First, the scuttle. After realizing that I was doing it wrong, I whipped up a great lather. I wasn't lifting the brush off the soap in the bottom enough at first, but once I did The lather exploded! I put steaming hot water inside the scuttle but it didn’t really seem to make a difference. It may have sat too long before use.

Second, the soap. Scent wise the best way I can describe it is a powdery barbershop scent (ie Stirling Barbershop) but with a sugary sweetness added to it....kind of like Barbershop with chocolate chip cookies mixed in. Different, but very good. Performance wise it lathered up nicely and I got a noticeably higher level of slickness tonight. Now because on my first 2 passes I wasn’t getting a great lather, I dont think I had great protection and ended up with some weepers and ultimately irritation. But the third pass was totally different with the better later. This may be the best soap I’ve used so far, or it may just be the best lather I’ve ever whipped up.

All in all, the weepers closed on their own and the irritation was a tad more than minimal. I did end up about 95% BBS. So I’m not complaining!

In Other News....
I had a real estate training tonight on appraisals and being able to offer better, more accurate assessments. I learned that I’ve pretty much been doing it right, but did pick up a few tips. This will be the last training until next year, but in the meantime I’ll be writing up a business plan to really kick things into gear after the new year...after all, I have shave gear to buy!

Willie Update:
Today the little man seems like he’s having a tough time. Very sore, and strangely very itchy. His ears were bothering him so bad that we gave him drops, and he was using the bottom branches of the Christmas tree to scratch his back. Not sure if it’s allergies or a reaction something. Hopefully it passes but if not, the wife will have one of the doctors look at him at her office. Otherwise he’s been enjoying gnawing on his newest antler.

Good to hear about the Oleo performance. I'm not into barbershop, but they have several other scents that are on my short list.

Shave Time!

The shave gods were watching out for me tonight...

Same setup as last night except for the blade. Swapped the Parker for a Ladas Super Stainless.

Went back to the scuttle again to try to get the hang of it. I don't know what I’m doing wrong, but my lather was either dry and tacky but super thin, or fluffy but really airy, or just a watery mess. I couldn’t get my lather dialed in at all. I eventually got so frustrated that I almost grabbed for my step son’s canned goo but decided against it. I definitely shaved angry tonight lol. I definitely shaved with pressure tonight. After I gave up trying to fix the lather and just using what I had, I shaved 3 passes in about 5 minutes.

By all accounts I should not have a face after all of this. Somehow I walked away with a 90-95% BBS with one nic, no weepers, and no other irritation. How the heck did this happen???? The only thing I can attribute it to, is the protection quality of the soap.

I’m really not sure what to take away from tonight’s shave to be honest. Obviously I need to not lose my temper when dragging a sharp blade across my face. But otherwise I’m at a loss. The shave should’ve been awful but ended up being really good.....probably going back to face lathering tomorrow lol. Oh, the scuttle also still was not keeping the lather warm. Not sure what’s up with that.

Willie Update:

After last night’s behavior, he was a totally different dog today. He looks like the soreness is all gone and was running, when we couldn’t catch him to stop him lol, all around the house. My wife also spoke with his surgeon today and he said that Willie should be ok to return to regular activity in the next week or 2. Good news for Willie! Although, his regular activity will no longer included doing Superman off the couch.

Lots to catch up on, but caught up I am. That Oz soap that's leather & absinthe sounds interesting. I totally dig an absinthe/anise scented soap - wish there were more of them. Mystic Water has a good one.
