Shave Time!

Went with an early afternoon shave today.

Razor: Tech II
Blade: Rapira Stainless
Brush: Kingsley Pure Badger
Soap: WSP Barbershop
AS: WSP Barbershop

Today I started to feel what I thought was a bit of tugging from the Rapira Stainless. This is the 3rd shave with this blade, and I’ve typically moved on after about 4 with most other blades, so I decided to bin it after tonight.

I still walked away away with a DFS, but it was a bit under par compared to the first 2 shaves with this blade. I was also left with a touch more irritation than I’ve been getting. Since I’ve been getting zero to little irritation as of late, it was still minimal so that’s ok.

I just got a free GSB blade from Wet Shaving Supply Co. I think I might make that my blade for tomorrow. I’ve used a GSB in the past, but my technique has improved so much since then I’d like to see how it reads this time.

I’m also about to post my very first PIF!!! Head over to the PIF section to check it out!

Willie Update:

He’s still about the same, but slowly progressing. His tail is starting to work more often, which brings a smile to everyone’s face when it started thumping and wagging lol. He’s continuing to get up and walk around when he feels spunky. He’s also out of the diaper and holding everything in now. Huge relief there lol! He’s snoozing now after a rough night of sneaking French fries and watching Making a Murderer Part 2.

I was a little behind but made sure I read all the Willie updates! Sounds like he is out of the woods and on the mend! I couldn't be more happy!

Thats awesome to hear the surgery went well and Willie is back home. He's a cute dog all wrapped up in that blanket, he either looks stoned or relieved to be home...perhaps a mix of both lol. Its scary for animals to be in a unfamilar place, and i'm sure hes releaved to be feeling better.

He is definitely happy to be home that’s for sure! And yes, he was feeling no pain in that pic ???.

That Willie is lucky to have y'all. Glad he's on the mend.

He sure is! He’s lucky he’s cute too, I just spent my shave allowance for the next 5 years on him hahaha. Just kidding, we would have robbed a bank to take care of him if we needed to.

Sunday Funday Shave!

I say that like I got I got all crazy with my setup...but I really didn't haha.

Razor: Razorock Tech II
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
Brush: Kingsley Pure Badger
Soap: Proraso Red Cream
AS: Pinaud Clubman

I guess I did switch more up than I thought. Pulled out the Proraso Red Cream for the first time in a while. Love the scent. Hate the way it leaves a film on everything though.

Overall not a bad shave. The Gillette Silver Blue is probably sharper than the Rapira Stainless, but not quite as smooth. Maybe just need to take another spin with it to dial it in, but I walked away with a low end DFS after my usual 3 passes and touch up. Can’t really complain about that too much!

Spent most of the day today putting up Christmas lights. My dad came over to help so I got less done than I intended, but we got in some hang time which was nice. I’ll have to finish the rest this week after work.

Willie Update:
He’s turned into a little diva when it comes to eating his dog food. He got spoiled with us giving him human food the last few days, but we’ll get him back to normal diet soon enough. He was up and about more than he should have been today. He’ll probably be sore tomorrow, but it’s a sign he’s feeling better.

Shave Time!

Razor: Razorock Tech II
Blade: GSB
Brush: Stirling Kong Synthetic
Soap: Razorock Mudder Focker
AS: Razorock Blue Fougere

Secind shave on the GSB tonight. I’m not really enjoying this blade. I thought coming back to it after a major improvement in technique might give me a different opinion about it, but it hasn’t. During the shave it just feels uncomfortable. Almost like I can tell I’m gonna walk away with a ton of irritation. The weird thing is, I don’t end up with a lot of irritation.

The closeness of the shave has gone down a notch with the second use, and I really feel like the 3 Russian blades I used previous to this were noticeably better in this department. I’m walking away today with a DFS above the jaw and CCS below. Part of this could be me slacking with technique, but I think the blade is to blame. I’ll give it one more shave and see what happens, but if I don't see an improvement it’s going to the bank.

Was going to finish up the Christmas lights tonight after work, but we got more rain. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish tomorrow night. If you haven’t checked it out yet, head over to my Christmas PIF and put your name in!

Willie Update:

Steadily improving, he was up and at ‘em today and on the move! My wife is a vet tech so she’s been bringing him to work everyday. Today she said all he wanted to do was walk around! He does still need to be very limited in his activity, so this is where it gets hard. We need to keep him still! Lol. But we’re very happy that he’s continuing to do well!

Blue Fougere and Mudder Focker pairing. That is an interesting one. I never thought about doing that, but I can see how it might work.

Glad the pup is doing well!

Shave Time!

Razor: Razorock Tech II
Blade: GSB
Brush: Stirling Kong Synthetic
Soap: CF Sherlock
AS: Pinaud Clubman

So today’s shave was bad for a couple reasons. First of all the GSB just isn’t a winner for me. I tried and gave it 3 shaves but just couldn’t get close and comfortable. I ended up with more irritation tonight than I’ve had in a while. Still not too bad, but enough to make me bin the GSB. I know a lot of you love this blade, but it’s just not for me.

I ended up with a DFS above the jaw and a CCS below. Not awful, but I’ve been consistently getting better shaves recently.

As for the Sherlock, Dave in KY was kind enough to send me a sample. I wasn’t really sold on the scent at first sniff. In fact I would even say I didn't really like it. I wanted so bad for this scent to blow me away lol. It after lathering and using it for 3 passes and a tiny bit of touch up, it did begin to grow on me a bit. So maybe tomorrow it’ll smell better!

So all in all the shave was still better than shaves in the past but a bit on the disappointing side.

In other news....

Strangely enough while I was reading (and commenting) on Chad’s trip to Disney, my wife booked our airfare for our annual Spring Training trip! We’ll be down for the St. Paddy’s day game which is always a good time.

Willie Update:

Well he’s totally active again. Which is great, but now very difficult to keep him rested. He’s still a bit wobbly in his feet but getting stronger and stronger. He’s under strict rest for the next 6 weeks, so that’ll be fun trying to keep him calm lol. But he just keeps getting better and better!

Sorry the shave was a let down! It had all the elements, maybe just not together for you.

Free Willie!

Hope you get things dialed in you like Steve. I love GSB but if they don'y work for you, find what does.

Haha thanks guys! The GSB just isn’t for me. I’ll move on to another new blade tonight and see what happens. I know the last few were winners so at least I have something to go back to!

Shave Time!

Just a blade change....

Razor: Razorock Tech II
Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless
Brush: Stirling Kong Synthetic
Soap: CFG Sherlock
AS: Pinaud Clubman

Swapped out the GSB for a 7 O’Clock Super Stainless. Right away I noticed a smoother shave, but still wasn’t feeling like it was an efficient shave. I walked away with moderate irritation on the neck. I can’t blame the blade just yet, because I know for sure I was a bit distracted. I could hear that the wife was watching Christmas Vacation and was rushing to join her lol! Walked away DFS all over though.

Tomorrow I’ll try again and really concentrate on angle and pressure. This blade deserves some more attention.

As for Sherlock, it is beginning to grow on me. I’m just not sure I would match the AS with the soap. I would probably find something else to compliment it instead. As you can probably tell my den is still in the infant stages, so I don’t have much to choose from. When I’m not sure what to match something with, it gets the Clubman!

Willie Update:

Still on the upswing and improving on a daily basis. He wore himself out today with his new squeaky toy:
