Steve's Journal: The Saga Continues....

I shouldve probably done some research myself. I’m going strictly based what is written (in English) on the wrapper and the blade itself.

I’m really looking forward to your take on these and the Ladas blades in you Bad Blade Series.

I have used a Ladas a long time ago. And I seem to remember it being okay. The Rapira's actually get pretty good reviews. Especially the ones that come in the gray packaging.

Both Rapira’s I’ve used came in blue and pink packaging. The gray must be a variation I haven’t come across yet.

The Rapira Platinum Lux I have and enjoy.
Just not my 1st choice

Are these the gray Rapira’s Chad is referring to?

These are definitely not the Rapira’s I have Dave. Have you tried the 2 varieties I’ve used to be able to compare? I’ve used the Rapira Super Stainless and am currently using the regular(?) stainless. Both are pictured recently in shave pics.

No, I haven't tried others. Heard good things about these years ago and have always kept some since. Wish I knew, I would have put a tuck in the box coming your way. Next time

Thanksgiving Shave

Another go round with the Tech II and Rapira Stainless. The only change was the soap/AS combo which I ended up landing on GTB/Stirling Sharp Dressed Man. A great combo.

My second shave with the Rapira Stainless has left me with a better opinion of it. Could be the extra time in between shaves, or the second use smoothing things out, but today's shave was much more comfortable during the shave. I did end up DFS, but with some irritation. Nothing too crazy, but more than I experienced with the Ladas, Vokhsod, or Rapira Super Stainless. Overall not a bad shave though, so I can't complain!

I do need some advice on 2 things.

1. I'm considering picking up a Gillette Tech to do a comparison between that and the RR Tech II. Not sure if there is a particular version of the Tech that everyone preferes, or if there is one that closer to the Tech II than others. If I can find one reasonably cheap I'd like to pick one up.

2. I have a PIF that I would like to put together. I've never done one before but as far as rules are concerned, what is the general rule of thumb for length of membership/quality posts. I honestly don't even know what qualifies as a quality post lol. Also, depending on how I work out the way I pick I might need a recommendation for a random number generator.

If you would like to throw in your 2 cents, you can either just comment here or message me. Whatever you prefer.

Anyway...in other news...
Turkey Day was great. My in-laws hosted. My father-in-law is a great cook (thank god my wife takes after him!) and he went all out as usual. My parents also came for dinner which is always a good time. I'm very lucky that my parents and in-laws get along so well. We never have to make a decision on who we see on holidays, we just pick a house to invite everyone over too!

Willie was a bit of a handfull today. He can't really be left alone so he came along. Someone had to watch him the entire time, but everyone loves him so no one complained. My 7 year old niece is very partial to Willie, so she spent a lot of time making sure he was comfortable...and doing good with snacks lol! Once we got home he was a little restless and decided he wanted to go for a stroll. He actually got up and walked across the living room! Making progress!

Great Turkey Day!

The best Tech is the one NurseDave seems to have gotten - the Prewar Fat Handled Tech with the triangular-ish slots. It’s quite a bit more efficient and has a little more blade feel than the Tech or Teck II. Still ultra smooth and decently mild though.

PIFs are whatever you want them to be!

Good stuff there and really good news on Willie. PIF rules are whatever you want them to be. I keep mine simple and kinda lax to encourage newbies to join in.

Willie's a beautiful dog. I've never used a Tech, so I can't comment on them. PIF whatever and whenever and to whomever you wish. That's the beauty of TSC - friendly, and not overburdened with protocols.

Enjoy your shaves.

There are no rules for PIFs. If you want to set a post count or length of membership, you can, but you certainly don't have to. Usually when people do specify, it's to encourage participation on the forum, and to give back to those who are active members. Random.org is the site most people use. Or just google random number generator and pick any of the hundreds of sites that search will yield.

I’ve come across a few of these on the bay. Might have to pull the trigger on one!

Wow great news on WIllie! I am sure he loved the attention too.

He sure did love the attention, slept like a baby when we got home too! Lol.

No shave tonight. I decided to take the night off...and begin my descent into Full Griswold...

Tomorrow we’re supposed to get rain, so I’ll finish the tree and do the rest of the inside decorations. Sunday it’s supposed to be in the 50’s and sunny, so that’ll be the outside lights day.

Thanks for everyone that offered up PIF advice. Keep an eye out for it soon!

I disagree on the Tech issue. My favorite is the Post-War Tech. I prefer the aesthetics and feel of the ball-end handle, but the fat handle can be easier to use in a wet, soapy environment. The Post-War Tech is mild and efficient. The Pre-War Tech can get a bit rough.
