Steve's Journal: The Saga Continues....

Shave time:

Razor: Tech II
Blade: Rapira Super Stainless
Brush: Kingsley Pure Badger
Soap: WSP Mahogany
AS: RR Blue Fougere

Another great shave from this razor/blade combo. I’m not sure where the Rapira SS lands on the sharpness scale, but tonight I got the closest shave I’ve ever had. Also no irritation, just a small weeper on the mustache area. That was caused by one of the cats running past the bathroom door, scaring the crap out of me, and causing me to turn my head instinctively. Could’ve been worse though.

So so far this might be my favorite blade/razor combo. I’ll definitely be trying the Rapira SS out in my Stirling and Fatip at some point.

As for the WSP Mahogany, it’s a great scent. Very cologne-y and masculine. It actually reminds me of a specific cologne, but I can't think of the name. Very good though. It paired well with the Razorock Blue Fougere. I might eventually get a full tin and AS of the Mahogany if the wife likes it.

Willie Update:

Hes coming along. He’s on a lot of pain meds so we’re pretty sure he isn’t uncomfortable from the procedure. He even stood up on his own today without any help. His biggest thing right now is being uncomfortable from not being able to do his business, but he is going so it’s not a huge concern health wise. Just stinks that he gets comfortable sometimes. But he’s making progress and that’s great! He’s also happy because I made gravy and meatballs. And he always gets a taste!

I had a busy night lol

Shave Time!

Same setup all around as yesterday. I only Scooped out enough for a few shaves from my WSP Mahogany sample, so I figure I’ll use it until it’s gone. Should only be another shave maybe.

Went through the usual 3 pass with clean up. DFS+. Very little alum sting, almost zero irritation.

I think I’ve finally zeroed in on what was giving me so many issues up until now. Pressure. I thought that I was shaving without pressure. Or the least amount possible anyway. Just using the weight of the razor. I was clearly wrong. As NurseDave says, just when you think you’re shaving with no pressure.... Anyway, that was what I believe was causing all of my issues. Now that I’m consciously backing off, I’m getting closer shaves with less irritation. At this point I’m almost to no irritation at all. So I’m pretty excited in case you couldn’t tell! ???.

I think tomorrow will probably be the last shave on the sample of the sample of Mahogany. We’ll see. The Rapira SS is still going strong. Tomorrow might just be a soap change.

Willie Update:

His progress is still coming along slowly. Stood up a few times today, but still can’t control going to the bathroom. So he’s in a diaper now. This way we can at least let him sit in someone’s lap or snuggle up in a blanket. Hopefully this week shows some more progress in that area, because diapers are expensive!

Nice updates on Willie and also nice shaves. Hope he is still on a steady road to recovery.

Thanks guys!

I tried to follow Don’s lead and use the good towels on Willie instead of disposable diapers....that got shot down real quick though!

Shave Time!

I used to kind of count my journal entries, and effect kept track of the number of shaves that way. I think I'm going to get back to that in the new year.

On to tonight's shave...

Switched up the soap and AS tonight as I didn't have enough Mahogany left for another shave like I though. Still plenty of left in the sample tin, but none left in the mug. I went with WSP Blackbeard and Clubman. Blackbeard and Mahogany could almost be brother...or at maybe cousins. Mahogany being the smooth ladies man, and Blackbeard being the tough barroom brawler. Both have a similar spiciness to them, but Mahogany has a definite cologne aspect to it whereas Blackbeard is kind of like a Bay Rum without the clove smell.

I stuck with the Rapira Super Stainless loaded Tech II and walked away with a solid DFS. More irritation than I've had lately, but lately it's been low to none. So what I ended up with tonight wasn't too bad. Maybe just an indication to move on to the next blade I want to pair with the Tech II.

Willie Update:

No pic tonight as he was kind of having a rough night, but his making slow progress. He stood on his own again a few times when I got home from work and even took a few steps! They were wobbly for sure, but he did it without any help. He also wagged his tail a little bit when I walked in the door! This is huge because we know he's starting to get feeling back in that area again. He's also starting to hold in his business in the back which is very good lol. Still leaking in the front though, so we continue with the diapers. Hopefully that doesn't last too much longer...

Shave Time!

I was gonna take off tonight, but couldn’t resist!

Razor: Tech II
Blade: Rapira Stainless (not super)
Brush: Kingsley Pure Badger
Soap: WSP Barbershop
AS: WSP Barbershop

I decided to bin the Rapira Super Stainless and try out the Rapira (regular?) Stainless tonight. My initial thoughts are that this is most definitely a step down from the Super Stainless. Throughout the shave I felt that I was going to have irritation at the end. Nothing was pulling. There were no weepers, nicks, or blood of any kind. It was just uncomfortable. Now I haven't taken a night off in...I don't remember when....it’s got to be close to 5 or 6 days if not more. So, that might have something to do with it. I’ll talk tomorrow night off and see what happens Thursday morning.

Im now about 20 minutes out from the shave, and I have no visible irritation, but I can still feel a little bit of a burn. I also landed on a DFS+, so I can't knock the blade too hard! We'll see how it does on round 2. And Chad, don’t worry. I’m not trying to rip off the bad blade series. I’m looking for good ones here! ???

Willie Update:

More of the same. Walked again for a few steps today. Seems to be trying to hold in his business, just isn’t quite there yet. He’s improving though and that’s all that matters! Hopefully he’ll be a little better for Turkey Day!

Nice catch up read. I am confused by the Rapira blades. I am doing some research to have a better understanding before I use them in my series.

I shouldve probably done some research myself. I’m going strictly based what is written (in English) on the wrapper and the blade itself.

I’m really looking forward to your take on these and the Ladas blades in you Bad Blade Series.
