Steve's Journal: The Saga Continues....

Wait? There was an anniversary? Yeah...sorry about that... 🤪

prepping the land
I was thinking more along the lines of setting up rain catchment systems, turning over soil, getting cattle ready for winter. 🤪

I have only shaved with a slant once. I it was an Ikon. I was super happy with it and for whatever reason I never went back to one. I have been thinking of getting one as of late myself.

Shave Time!

Its been a while since I’ve updated. No reason other than I just forgot!

The last 3 shaves have all been the same

Razor: Muhle R41 OC Rose Gold
Blade: Ladas Super Stainless
Brush: Sorrentino Caramel Swirl Synthetic
Soap: WSP Mahogany
AS: WSP Mahogany

I’ve learned that Muhle R41 is probably best left reserved for multiple days worth of growth. It’s a little too aggressive to be a daily/every other day shaver for me. Also, the Ladas blade was great on the first shave but has gotten progressively worse with each shave after that.

Wednesday the wife and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. We were thinking about going somewhere for a fancy dinner before we realized that my best friend happened to be playing an acoustic gig at our local pub. So beer, wings, and acoustic jams aided in the celebration!

Today we’re going to Urban Axes to celebrate the same friend’s wife’s birthday. Should be a good time. They do a tournament when you go with a large group and it’s a lot of fun. This will be the 5th year that we’ve all gone and so far I’m a 3 time champion. I lost in the last round last year, so I’m looking to reclaim the crown today!

Willie World:
Willie has gotten into the habit of waking up 4-5 times every night to go out, get a drink, beg for a snack, or just take a stroll through the house. He always wakes the wife up, so her sleep hasn’t been the best lately. I need to figure out a way to have him bug me so he gives her a break. She is his favorite human so I doubt I’ll have any luck there lol.
Happy 9th Anniversary!!

Shave Time!

I’ve been pretty busy at work and have a lot of catching up to do. I don’t remember what I used last week, but I do remember the shaves were good!

Saturday:
Razor:
Gillette Ball End Tech
Blade: Derby Premium
Brush: Stirling Synthetic
Soap: CBL Oud Minerale
AS: LNHC Barbershop Balm

Monday:

Razor: Gillette Red Tip
Blade: Derby Premium
Brush: Tech Hive Synthetic
Soap: Stirling Hipster
AS: Stirling Hipster

Tuesday:

Razor: Gillette Red Tip
Blade: Derby Premium
Brush: Stirling Synthetic
Soap: Stirling Spice
AS: Stirling Spice

The last 3 shaves have been really good. Obviously Stirling always delivers and the Red Tip is definitely in my top 5, maybe 3, razors.

This weekend we took a trip to see my step son at Penn State Altoona. He was happy to see us and get a little home cooking delivered by his mom and grandpop lol. We just kind of hung out at his apartment for the most part but did make it out to the Pennsylvania Railroaders Museum which was pretty cool. One of Anthony’s buddies is a Railroad Engineering major so he was our tour guide. We also watched the Penn State/Ohio game with some of his friends…but we won’t talk about that 🤦🏻‍♂️Lol.

Willie got to spend the weekend with grandmom and grandpop where is his usually spoiled. He was still happy to come home Sunday for some couch time, even if it meant fewer snacks.

Shave Time!

Wednesday
Razor:
Gillette Red Tip
Blade: Derby Premium
Brush: Sorrentino Caramel Swirl Synthetic
Soap: Southern Witchcraft Necromantix
AS: Stirling Barbershop

Friday

Razor: Gillette Red Tip
Blade: Derby Premium
Brush: Sorrentino Caramel Swirl Synthetic
Soap: Siliski Soaps Appalachian Trail
AS: Clubman Whiskey Woods

I saw everyone showing off their Southern Witchcrafts soaps for their Halloween shaves and decided I ‘d join in on the fun a little late lol. Great soap. I should probably look into their other scents.

Today I pulled out a new to me soap that I’ve actually had for about 6 months but never used. Siliski Soap Appalachian Trail. Great performer, but I don’t think the scent is for me. If you like pine scents this will probably be right up your alley.

I think next week I’ll switch up razors…

I had to come in to work last night at 10pm for a police call. Thankfully it was just a building alarm that went off due to a door not being closed all the way. The wind must have pulled it open just enough to trigger the alarm. Still sucks having to drive back to work at 10 though, especially when I was in the middle of an episode of Ted Lasso. This show is hilarious.

Willie World:
The Master of Disaster was starting to get a little wobble in his back legs last night. So he’s back on strict rest and anti inflammatory meds. I think it might just be him adjusting to the cold weather. Hopefully it passes soon. He still perks up for treats so I think he’ll be ok.

Following @GearNoir ‘s lead, I broke out a straight for a late afternoon open blade shave today. First time I’ve used a straight in months, and I have to say it went much better than expected! A N-S pass and S-N pass and I was almost completely DFS. Some clean up with the Red Tip got me where I needed to be.

I’m not sure if my angle was off, but my N-S pass felt like I had barely cut any hairs. I definitely was as I could see stubble in the sink and could see the difference on my face, but when rinsing after the first pass it felt like I hadn’t removed much. Typically I feel a lot smoother after my first pass with a DE, so either a bad angle today or that’s just how things work with a SR 🤷🏻‍♂️. Like I said, after the second pass I was almost completely DFS. Just the chin and moustache areas were still stubbly. I still haven’t figured out how to do the S-N pass n those areas comfortably and without incident.

Currently watching the Penn State-Maryland game. Penn State is up 7-0 👍. Just a lazy Saturday here. I’ll probably open a book and read some for the first time in a while.

Willie World:
Little man is definitely feeling better, but we’re still keeping him limited to his craziness just to be safe. Current situation: snuggled with momma under a blanket.

Shave Time!

Tuesday
Razor:
Gillette Black Handle Super Speed
Blade: Personna Platinum
Brush: Mystery Badger
Soap: Stirling Spice
AS: Stirling Spice

Wednesday

Razor: Gillette Black Handle Super Speed
Blade: Personna Platinum
Brush: Mystery Badger
Soap: Stirling Spice
AS: Stirling Spice

Likely staying with the same set up all week just because. I’ve tried these Personna Platinum blades multiple times in the past and never had a good experience. I’m hoping a week with the blade might change that, but so far it’s not looking good. We’ll see how I feel in a few days.

Not much going on here. The yard re alignment at work is almost done. Things are getting back to normal there. Otherwise pretty quiet on all other fronts. Not necessarily a bad thing!
