Steve's Journal: The Saga Continues....

Shave Time!

Razor:
RR GC .84p
Blade: Wilkinson Sword (3)
Brush: Stirling Synthetic
Soap: Bootlegger Willy Mickey Lee Kraken
AS: Aqua Velva Ice Blue

Another fail with the Bootlegger Willy tonight. I went in with a very dry brush, and at first it seemed to be loading well and creating a decent proto lather on the puck. I applied the soap to my face and it almost seemed to want to build a nice lather but was just a little too dry. I thought I'd add a few drops of water to the brush and continue building the lather, but by the time I added the water and brought the brush back to my face, the soap that was there was already beginning to disappear. I added the water and at first the lather started to build, but then it just got worse. Since I was still a little tender from yesterday's shave being done with pretty much just water, I decided to change gears and just grab a different soap. I think @TobyC might be right and maybe the Whiskey Woods didn't have enough time to completely evaporate. I'll let it sit overnight again and see how things go tomorrow.

The Wilkinson Sword is still plenty sharp and very comfortable. I still need to do some research on this blade, but so far I'm really liking it!

Willie World:
I don't know what Willie was doing before I got home, but he didn't want to do his nightly "throw the toy" routine and was snoring pretty hard while I was watching TV. He must have had an exciting poop walk in the snow!

In Other News...
Surprises at work continue to show themselves. None of them good today, but we'll survive.

Sorry to hear about your trouble with the Williams. I was able to coax a decent lather out of the modern version after many attempts, but was never able to make it more than passable. I still have my tub of Blue Willie around here somewhere. Maybe I'll break it out and see if I can make it work....with a backup puck of another soap just in case.

Yeah, the first 2 attempts were pretty bad. I’m hoping I can get it dialed in a little better sooner rather than later.

Modern Williams kind of frustrated me as well. Life is too short to have to fight with finicky soap. Didn't ever really grow to like MWF either.
Good luck in your quest for good shaves with the classic brand.
I haven’t tried MWF yet, but I hear it’s equally a pain in the butt!

I think the MWF thing may be a water type issue or something like that. It seems to be one of the polarizing love/hate soaps. But it works really well for me, so I guess I’m in the love camp.
I have a feeling the water at my house is a major component in my issues with the Willy. I’m wondering if trying bottled water might help?
