Okay...I FINALLY put my DIY Farmer Walk Weights to use. So...I really thought that each devise was going to be close to 100 pounds. Boy was I off. Each comes in at 78 pounds. Still, over 150 pounds total weight, so I am keeping pace with Sam @woodpusher Before I get into all the weird stuff I want to talk about...this was my routine.
Farmer's Walk - 30 Steps
Squats - 10 Reps - Body Weight
Farmer's Walk - 20 Steps
Upright Rows - 10 Reps (40 Pounds + Curl Bar)
Farmer's Walk - 30 Steps
Push Ups - 10 Reps (Body Weight)
Farmer's Walk - 10 Steps
Single Leg Squats - 10 Reps (Body Weight)
Farmer's Walk - 15 Steps
Bent Over Rows - 10 Reps (40 Pounds + Curl Bar)
Farmer's Walk - 10 Steps
Shrugs - 10 Reps (Farmer Weight Device)
Farmer's Walk - 10 Steps
Lunges - 10 Reps (Each Leg) (Body Weight)
Farmer's Walk - 5 Steps
Suitcase Walk - 10 Steps (Each Side)
So...some observations...
1. The 78 Pounds x 2 is probably just right at least for a couple of weeks until I get this work out sorted out
2. For the leg exercises I am only doing body weight for the time being until I get the routine down.
3. For the Upright an Bent Over Rows, I think I need to either increase the weight on the curl bar or I need to just ditch the curl bar and just use the Farmer's Walk Device.
4. I tried to make this more intense workout by making sure that I at least jog between stations.
5. This work out lasted only 15 minutes and that is with me adding a couple extra reps here and there. 25 minutes if I count my stretching. I want to get the format down before I do a whole lot. But I am thinking of doing two to three sets of the exercises between the Farmer's Walk exercises. I am also thinking of adding five to 10 steps to each Farmer's walk...or maybe I should try adding on my weight.
All in all though...even if it was just a short routine...I got a good sweat going and my heart was pumping. I want to increase the duration of the routine...but I need to make sure I am not spending an hour on it either. 30 - 45 minutes is really where I want to be. Anyway...first work out in a long time in the books.
