Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Great read Rich! Great Picture!

Great shaves sans the Mr. M visit. You'll have to reprimand the safety cats for them allowing Mr. M. to sneak up on their 6.

Sorry to hear about the loss of precious bodily fluids, but a very nice shave nonetheless. I love the look of that Engstrom.

I like the nose in this one.
All caught up, Rich. So what's the status with the '65 T-Bird?

thanks guys! The cats are on report, but M is a sneaky guy.
I haven’t found the right apartment. For the t-bird guy. He didn’t respond to the note I left. It just stayed there and eventually blew away.

If the cats didn't protect you from Mr. M one must think that your particular cats feel they are close to being able to take over the world... or less likely the water bowl needs filling. LOL

It seems the safety cats were busy gossiping, allowing Mr. M. to sneak in and do something dastardly. Nice shave otherwise!

Straight shave #298
Razor: 5/8 Prior Solingen
Soap: Sterling Iced Pineapple
Scuttle: Crown King 12oz.

Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: Sterling Boar (huge!)
AS/EdT: Sterling Iced Pineapple Balm and AS
Sound track: None

The Stuff: This is a day of sets. The Razor and Strop both were imported by Mitchel Mogal of NYC I'm not sure when, but it was the first 'contribution' by a friend when it became known that I was a budding straight shaving collector. The remaining components of the stuff are from Sterling. Iced Pineapple was from an inspiration whilest reading the journals this evening. As it happens, I have all three of the parts Soap, Balm, and Aftershave. As well as a huge brush from Sterling. So they all get tagged. SafetyCat however, was a bit reticent to go to the den. I called him from his perch in the front window. He came back and surveyed the situation, and in a couple of seconds, Buster came into the den. I swear they have something going on. His heart obviously wasn't in it though. He looked over the station, sniffed the soap and took the secondary post on the rug in front of the tub. Later in the shave, he moved back into the right sink.

The Shave: I don't know if I mentioned this, but since I got my new ears singing blades are operatic in their volume. The Microphones are really close to the working surface. I think I may learn to use this feedback as I continue to get used to them. I don't normally have my ears in when I shave for fear of severing the little wire thing, but I think I can avoid it.
Buoyed by the confidence of having a SafetyCat, enhanced hearing and a superior soap, I think tonight is a night for baby chasing. Starting from Stroke 1 I can feel and sense everything lining up for a really excellent shave. Three full passes, and a bit of cleanup using the balm as lubricant and I am swimming with dolphins tonight. The Balm smells a little bit different from the soap and AS. I'm not sure I sensed as much menthol as in the other products but I also don't use balm very much at all.

Comments: I made an appointment with the Line-X people to do the Benz roof Friday. The technician says it will be real easy and will take about 2 hours to do. I apparently did ok fixing the stuff he didn't like last fall. Best part is the lifetime warranty (life of the liner? or the car already 40 years old)
I am starting to ponder what gear selections for my 300 coming up. I'm leaning Swedish. LOL

Great read, shave, and picture Rich!

Great to hear that new ears are working out for you!

Good luck on the Benz! I have LineX in my truck bed, great stuff. FYI the corporate headquarters is here in Huntsville, AL.

Excellent read Rich! You guys are inspiring me. I may just try using a straight again!

Great shave Rich! Maybe the safety cats were indifferent because there was an unannounced cease-fire with Mr. M today. Nice to hear the Benz is going to be finished up soon!

One of the easier journals to get caught back up on after my long weekend. Great stuff, and hope the Benz turns out great!

I didn't realize you had a wire on your hearing aides. Is it the type that has electronics behind the ear and then a little wire to the piece inside the ear? I guess I was just assuming all the new stuff was one piece all inside.

Mine is as you have described. There are two little microphones on the body of the 'behind the ear' part, and I suspect there is one inside along with the speaker part that is inside the ear canal. They have truly transformed my life in that I didn't realize what I wasn't hearing all this time. The only clunky part is I have to wear a medallion to hook up to bluetooth devices. I suspect that was a compromise to make the batteries last longer and to make the aids themselves a little smaller.

My aunt has a cochlear implant as well, and is still amazed 3 years later how much her quality of life has improved since.

Straight shave #299
Razor: Feather SC SS / Kia Protouch (?)
Soap: B&M 42
Scuttle: Crown King 12oz.

Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: Maggard Synthetic
AS/EdT: B&M 42
Sound track: None (Tinnitis Day)

The Stuff: Today utilizes known hardware to try new-to-me software. I've used B&M products in the past and they have performed pretty good with my water. 42, in addition to paying homage to a beloved series of books, has a scent profile SWMBO likes. She wore the EDT to Church yesterday. It is quite definitely a spring/summer fragrance. I did not use the EDT today, but am enjoying the floral citrus notes with something I can't quite identify lurking about in there. I was reading about whale vomit being a note, but that sounds a bit outlandish. Mittens has SafetyCat duty today, and he stationed Buster in the hallway to block any intrusion by Old Man Murphy. Somebody cleaned the bathroom mirror and with it the tally of how many shaves I have on this blade. It's still going strong however many it has though.

The Shave: SS' have a feedback profile kind of like a wedge until I get close to my ears where the bionic ears can pick up the faint sound of whiskers crying out in terror and being suddenly silenced. This soap works very well with my cold water and gives ample slickness and cushion for a 2.5 pass DFS even on my neck! Just a bit of sting with the AS which I expect every time I break out the Feather. These blades were a gift from Sam on the other board. I have to assume he knows where we all are, I feel very awkward approaching folks over there so figure in time we may see an appearance from him over here.

Comments: SWMBO took me to a 'Downsizing' clinic yesterday about getting rid of excess stuff in the house and preparing for smaller quarters. I have started half heartedly looking through the stacks of boxes in the spare bedroom (the junk room) but can only get as far as looking at them before having to go back into my lair and look at the mountains of my own stuff that needs to go. I forsee hiring a third party that has no emotional attachment coming in and making the three piles of stuff. Keep, Pitch and Sort. In that respect I guess I am still very much in the healing process. I feel kind of 'paralyzed' I can't seem to move on any front. It's enough to drive a guy to drinkin'. LOL
