Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Sorry to hear of the health scare Rich. But I'm glad the outcome was not too serious. I hope and pray all is well. You managed some very good Swedish shaves along the way.

Very glad to hear that the scare turned out well. Great shave and set up. That razor looks about the same as my little Bengall, which is a fantastic shaver.

Jectah Shave Straight shave #297
Razor: Schick Adjustable Injector Type M / Schick Chinese blade (1)
Soap: CBL Russian Tea
Scuttle: Crown King 12oz.

Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: Sorrentino R2D2 Badger
AS/EdT: None
Sound track: None

The Stuff: To the best of my knowledge, this is the last razor Dad used. After a rigorous cleaning with scrubbing bubbles and a toothbrush, then a quick polish (insert a life or death struggle to remove the old blade somewhere in here. No bloodshed) It did get pretty ugly to remove the old blade and then align everything to get the new blade in and that didn't go very well either. On the plus side, it looks pretty good! I am cold lathering Chris' soap with my Sorrentino so what could possibly go wrong. I scattered a few Scooby Snacks around in the den to ensure at least a passing presence of a SafetyCat. Mittens is the most greedy so he cleaned up and didn't tell any of the other cats of the booty. He even hung around for a bit.

The Shave: I had some misgivings after my struggle getting a blade installed in this razor. I figure the best setting to start with is mid-range at 4 which is a bit harsher than my G-type. I did dial that back a bit as the shave progressed. This was a Saturday night shave just before bed so I didn't use any AS and enjoyed the subtle fragrance of the Russian Tea inside my CPAP mask. I like it and am now wondering about a matching AS for this soap. I have googled and ooh la la Expensive for the EDP. Probably a citrus I think. I did two passes quickly and was in CCS. Third passes an easy DFS, but some seepage on my neck. I know when to call it quits. Yay! Happy me with a bit of alum sting and off to bed.

Comments: This has been one Heckuva week with Hospital visits, and I am glad to have this over with. Finishing up the month and all should be good to go. I stripped the Vinyl top off the Mercedes and am fixing up the old tree damage and high and low stuff to get it over to the bed liner guy to coat the roof. That will really be a good start for making this a good looking daily cruiser. It will definitely eliminate all the leaks around the sunroof and maybe I'll consider letting the paint patina to ratrod. But then again, it is a Merc. Well. That project will Frankenstein over the course of the summer and I will probably let the Miata go to fund it. Then, perhaps another project? SWMBO is not completely in favor of another project, but there is a '65 T-Bird that has been sitting for a long time in the apartment complex near our house. Hmmmmm..

That is the very razor that Santa left in my stocking a year or two after I started shaving. I thought it was so futuristic to the DE I had been using. I thought, "cool, you don't have to touch the blade." Then I proceeded to cut myself slightly picking up the old blade out of the sink after changing the blade for the first time.

I've been outside in the driveway all day deleting the sunroof from the Benz. No shave to day, but had to stop in and say Happy Dos de Mayo to all my friends!

Straight shave #297
Razor: 6/8 Joh.Engstrom
Soap: Proraso Vetyver Cypress
Scuttle: Crown King 12oz.

Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: Antique Aluminum Badger
AS/EdT: Rich's Lemongrass, Lavender and Patchouli
Sound track: None

The Stuff: When the Engstrom says it wants to play who am I to say no? I am desperate for a shave as I've been too long between and have been exerting myself to some degree most of the day. I'll compliment this blade with a fine old razor I re-knotted and make use of the excellence that is Proraso. What could go wrong? I even have all three cats milling around the den looking out for he who shall not be named. This is a designed cold water shave as am trying to expedite my transition from Winter to Summer shaving modes. (It happened over the course of a week, it appears we no longer have spring anymore here in Ohio)

The Shave: After it's stropping this exceptionally hollow razor is singing it's battle song and almost the first thing it does is sever a raised follicle. It happened and I didn't feel a thing, save for the warmth of a bit of precious bodily fluids streaming down my lip. I did take a good pic. Look for it in the war-wounds thread. Despite the injury, the rest of the shave went spectacularly well. I suspect I may have a bit of a feather on the heel of this blade that I hope to polish out with the next stropping. That may prevent injuring myself in subsequent shaves with this razor. Three passes and some clean-up and I am swimming with the Dolphins. My A/S, inspired by Walts first soap brought compliments from SWMBO and the bit of sting tells me I was wise to stop shaving when i did.

Comments: The presence of SafetyCats doesn't always prevent visits from a determined Murphy. There are only a couple little area's on the Benz' roof that need a bit of attention, then primer and off to the painter to have bedliner sprayed on the top to simulate a vinyl top. Surprisingly that was not an option for the '78 240d. I don't plan on doing a full restore on this car, but do want a good 20 foot job so I can drive it in Local meets without having to explain the hideosity.
