Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Great shave Rich!
Love me some B&M 42! The unidentified scent is Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.

The whale vomit as you put it, or ambergris, would be an awful scent if that is what is in that soap. I think perfumers use it to make scents last longer.

Great read Rich...always a pleasure to hear about your experiences .

I hate getting rid of stuff too. Though, we recently made the decision not to look for a larger house. So all that stuff I've been saving "just in case", assuming we would have space for it if we moved, I just need to get rid of.

Great shaves Rich. I am going to bounce around in my reply as it has been a while. I had a 71 T-Bird that was Raven Black, had a 429 Thunderjet engine, and four doors that opened suicide. This was the last model year Ford put 4 doors on a T-Bird. The car was my Father's and he bought it slightly used from the Ford dealer in 1972 or 1973. It was used by the dealership owner's mother, and had very low miles. Dad was a salesman and had to cover a sales territory that resulted in him buying a new car about every other year, and he was a Ford man. The car just prior to this one was a 1971 Ford LTD, so the Ford dealer loved my dad. At any rate, he drove it until it had about 90,000 miles on it, then he had the engine re-built. But since he made his living working on the road, he did not trust it enough to be a daily driver without a backup. So he replaced it with a Lincoln Mark IV. By this time I was in the Marine Corp, so I purchased the T-Bird from him. Now that was a very nice ride.

On the downsizing front, we are not yet seriously thinking about it. But we both know it is in our future, probably sooner rather than later. If I were in a situation where I was facing it head on right now, I would not know where to start either. Good luck with working through this very difficult, but probably very necessary, stage in your life.

Ambergris is indeed in there, but must be in very judicious amounts. It is quite pleasant!

All caught up, Rich. Good luck with the downsizing. And the 42? Oy, that was not for me.

Good luck with the downsizing. We really need to do that as some of our stuff is stashed at my parents' place.

nice read, Rich and nice shave with the 42! Good luck with the downsizing...sometimes it can be cathartic to physically let things go, but it doesn't make it any easier up to that point. SWMBO is constantly in a state of "downsizing", so I've become a little numb to it all.

Downsizing is painful because I have all the stuff from our 30 years plus all of Mom and Dads stuff. Being the unfortunate possessor of excellent long term memory, I am overburdened with memories of every thing I see. I was however, able to get one car in the garage this past winter!

That is definitely a plus!

?

Great stuff Rich. The scent of 42 is a little out there, but I love it, and agree completely on it being a Spring/Summer scent.

KStraight shave #300
Razor: Feather CVH #2
Soap: C.O. Bigelow Proraso green
Scuttle: Crown King 12oz.

Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: Strong Set Badger
AS/EdT: Proraso Green
Sound track:

The Stuff: Keeping it simple this morning. With the SafetyCats on site, a sizzlingly keen CVH poses no discernible threat. Proraso is as natural as breathing this morning with a SafetyCat sitting in the open window keeping watch.

The Shave: The soap performs perfectly as I expect and the brush, albeit a little floppy prepare me for a nice routine DFS 3 stroke shave. My brothers who wear CPAP’s will be familiar with the one nick in the crease left by the mask on m6 cheek. ‘Tis but a love nip though and doesn’t impede any passes.

Comments: It’s been a very long time since I have tried to do any PC or Laptop repairs. I figured not much can have changed. Boy howdy was I mistaken! Microsoft has made things a lot different and I quickly found myself in over my head, save installing* the planned memory upgrade. It took a couple hours to make the “recovery thumb drive” and the unit refused to boot with it. It did, however manage to convert my archive drive into a copy of itself! 2tb of careful backups now believe it’s a 32gig thumb drive. I am trying to recover the drive, but the software is indicating 193 hours left in the process! I am hoping it will change it’s mind as it goes on. I will probably take the laptop and the SSD to the geek squad and have them transfer to the faster drive. That will liberate another 1tb drive to back up the backup. At least that’s the plan.

Nice quick Shave Rich!

I used to try to keep up with a lot of the PC kind of maintenance stuff. But I no longer work as an Intel Analyst and fear that I have lost most of my skills (mediocre they me be)...so I no longer try to keep up. When and if I need to this type of work at home again...I will just deal with the frustration of googling it and taking much longer than I need to take to perform the action.

Nice shave. The Proraso Green is always a good choice.

Good luck with the PC upgrades and maintenance.

Good shaves...and apparently you get to continue the shave for 193 more hours, so...

nice shave Rich....and sorry to hear that you're having computer issues. Hopefully you're able to get the update completed sooner than later!
