Fine Italian Citrus
Gillette Slim (I2) Wizamet

Building on the relative success of the Williams shave I was shaking soap tins to find more loose pucks. I used this soap just prior to surgery and it was still loose in the tin, so…

This stuff is terrific as I had anticipated. Perhaps a tick less slick as Williams, but infinitely adequate for the task. Did not need to re-apply between passes. I experimented a bit with riding the cap and lightly buffing on the second pass. Fully used the right hand with minimal discomfort. Still not even contemplating bringing in a straight.

Blackland Vector

I kept trying. And today I was able to successfully whip up a lather for myself! Triumph is a tribute to Paco Rabanne Invictus and it is terrific. Small amounts of the soap and aftershave balm are still available. Rod’s soaps are exceptional and a good place to restart my lathering.
Heck! I even tried a couple of passes with Batman. Not enough mobility yet to do straights safely yet. But I’ll keep testing.
Two passes to a pretty good shave.

DR Harris
CBL Barba
Blackland Vector

Face lathered this (triple milled?) soap for a very acceptable lather. Spouse unit found this to be quite to her liking off the puck. I didn’t get the aftershave splash yet. Where the fragrance is quite subtle to my nose (sniff) I detect leather, pepper and some citrus. I selected Barba as pretty close. There are probably better matches.

A full 4 pass shave to a solid BBS.

At three weeks I started doing lots of deep tissue massage and stretching over the weekend. Probably to my detriment. Quite sore today. Still was able to move the bad finger better than previously able. Too hot to cut grass today anyway and waiting for a call from the Doctor. Gonna celebrate unity with my chair today and ice myself down. Puzzling through Spiders first couple of bingo calls should occupy me before naptime.

RazoRock Black Bay
Supply adjustable injector

I’ve lately been exploring my interest in triple-milled soaps. PdP 63, Tabac and MWF number among my favorite soaps. While I’m pretty certain Black Bay is not triple-milled, it is quite dense and hard as any puck of Fine. It lathers quite well, and has a great Bay Rum fragrance. I also have a bottle of Bay Rum aftershave that is comprised of many versions from many manufacturers. It is loosely based on the good ol’ bootleggers bay rum quite popular at the old place.

This dark green soap makes a slick, pale green lather. And the Supply razor is nearly as good as my Schick M. I do like how this razor acts. I need to use it more recognizing it will probably never surpass the Vector or the Schick. It is still a darned fine razor.

Said good-bye to a teacher I respected in Middle School. Looking at the pictures at his funeral I was astonished to find he was only 9 years older than I. Godspeed Mr. Allen.

IMG_8848.jpegIMG_8847.jpegCBL Orion
Wostenholm 4/8

Building confidence with a semi-challenging small razor.
Orion didn’t fight quite as much as usual and lathered as well as it has in a while. Provided a good slick
Foundation for whisker removal. Two passes to DFS.

Confidence is building as the surgery heals on the inside. The finger still doesn’t bend properly and is quite painful
when I massage the operation site as directed. I have an appointment with the surgeon next week. I hope things can be sorted out with therapy. I don’t remember having this much trouble last time, but I am older and have a poor memory. 😜

RazoRock Caribbean Holiday
Jernbolaget 5/8

A Caribbean Holiday for our brothers enjoying their cruise. 🚢 CH is a great soap in keeping with other RazoRock soaps. I guess I just like hard soaps. Good to great lather and slickness. The star was the Jernbolaget that, despite needing a touch-up, delivered a solid DFS. Just shortened my strokes and it sailed right along.

Stirling Hipster
Crater Guarded Razor

An interesting Razor today. This one has a pivoting guard covering the edge to prevent unplanned contact, presumably making the razor safer while maintaining the closeness of a straight shave. On my example, I think the guard is a bit out of adjustment so the guard binds a bit and can also move too far making for some sporty situations while covered with foam. Probably a forerunner to the AC guarded blades these were patented in 1913 as many shaving innovations were sprouting forth. I think probably marketed for beginner shavers, it’s a solution looking for a problem.
The razor took a pretty good edge, but the guard was a bother and prevented the razor from performing to its potential. I had to touch up with the Vector to bring the shave into spec. Still I am glad to have one of these in my collection.
