Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Boom! Rock that Feather Rich. I wouldn’t use a feather in every razor I have either.

Don’t
I generally have stubble by the time I have finished dressing for work. 🤪

But what I think you are really trying to say is" "Hey, if I get one of these, I can shave daily like everyone else!"🕺
think that thought didn’t cross my mind. KYDave found a bargain on one.

I don’t understand. You can’t be seen in that with a 5 o’clock shadow. O74
guess what’s in this post Rich
This is true. I’ll see how that flies....
oh dear... not well at all.
I would never have found that call had you not said something.

Razor: Feather AS-D2 / Assured DE blade of uncertain origin
Soap: Duke Cannon Superior Grade Shaving Cream
Scuttle: Face Lather
Strop: Griffin
Brush: Sterling Boar
AS/EdT: Duke Cannon Aftershave Balm

Comments: Day three checking out this razor. It worked great with a great blade. How does it work with a marginal to bad blade? Hmmmmm? Let’s give ‘er a go!

The Hardware: the Assured blade comes alongside as a 5 pack with a razor that costs a dollar. It can’t get a lot cheaper than that. Pretty sketchy would be the universal opinion.

The Software: This is the second try with this soap, but first smearing it on my face and brush lathering. It raises a low but real slick foamy lather. Super slick. Really.... The aftershave balm smells of vapo-rub, and feels a little greasy on application. But it eventually soaks in all ok

The Shave: Jaw Dropping shock! The razor feels almost the same as when I was using arguably the sharpest blade on the market. Maybe a little tug when I get too quick. But at the end of three and a half passes. I am smooth as a eel.

Sometimes you have to go "slumming" to help you appreciate the fancy shiny shave things we all accumulate. And then there is inexpensive and good shaves that are win-win.
Glad you found a rainbow unicorn Rich.

Razor: BLACKLAND Vector / Kai Super
Soap: Ethos Fresh Lime
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop: Griffin
Brush: Frank Shaving “Macy” synthetic
AS/EdT: Ethos Fresh Lime Splash

Comments: Late afternoon shave, because I can! First try with @Dragonsbeard Ethos Fresh Lime set. Smells nice. I been missing the Vectah’! Despite trying to be a primarily straight shaver, I like this razor! We had a great Zoom call last nigh that went deep into the night. it was neat to get a peek into my friends minds.

The Hardware: It’s a Vector! C’mon!

The Software: Soap loads easily and requires no blooming whatsoever. It lathers quick and provides good lubricityband cushion. The scent is pleasant Lime. Somewhat reminiscent of Pinaud Citrus Musk. No problems with that. Like that one too, so if I run out of splash I know what to grab. Post pass slickness is ok I’d a bit of water is added. Rinses pretty clean. So between pass corrections should be with just a little bit of water.
The after-shave splash is some nice stuff and the feeling of ‘something extra’ in it was pretty prevalent. Scent was quite forward with the lime/citrus note and something else I couldn’t identify. This seems to be a bit thinner than the Dragons Beard we tried earlier but with all the skin food as before.

The Shave: This whole set-up was aimed at a good to great shave. I reached DFS+ with no effort at all. A new blade would have easily made for a BBS shave.

Pretty jealous of you Rich. I thought my order was coming in today, but it didn't. I hate to say this but hopefully it'll be here tomorrow...
Nice shave set-up, and awesome review!

Nice review, Rich. I'd be all over it if I didn't already have a new tub of Ghost Lime under my sink and some Bootleggers Arctic Lime.

Razor: Gillette BlueTip D-1 (1st Qtr 1957) - Feather DE (3)
Soap: Pinaud Clubman
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop: Griffin
Brush: VDH “el-Cheapo Del Grande Especialle” boar
AS/EdT: Pinaud Clubman

Comments: Getting ready for The day and the first of TSC’s Zoom Shaving Clinics. Chose to do an ‘everymans’ shave. I was for a short time a member of our local Country Club and the locker room was always stocked with Clubman products. That was long ago, and I’m sure they don’t leave out product for patrons to use. Pinaud is one of the few mass market soaps in the stash. About due for a restock.

The Hardware: This particular Flair Tip was intended for spousal use, but she didn’t like the shorter handle, so I got it. Indeed it is in pretty good shape and could be a replace candidate. It is quite mild and has that bit of ‘lock up’ turn when the doors seat. A good user grade razor

The Software: Pinaud soaps base is super slick and has very good to excellent post pass slickness. If anything it is annoyingly difficult to rinse off. Clubman aftershave is a staple (or should be) in every mans scent Arsenal. Classic Barbershop, if not the very standard of Barbershop fragrances.

The Shave: The combination of a mild razor with a super sharp Gave an excellent shave. Yet as this is a fresh Feather there was a touch of harshness that will settle in for subsequent saves.
