Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

There's no such thing as risk-free "minor" surgery these days, let alone having your intestines pulled out and stuffed back in. Hopefully she gets to go home soon and all is well.

Razor: Gillette Post War TechEinstein / Gillette Super Platinum (Black) (5)
Soap: Eleven DFS
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop:
Brush: Eleven DFS
AS/EdT: Eleven DFS

Comments: Shave 5 on the Gillette Black. No surprise it’s still at its peak of keenness.
Haven’t heard yet if Dianne is home yet. I’m sure our collective prayers are helping. Frankly as widespread as the cancer was, an given two runs of Chemotherapy it is good she is/was in robust health when this started. Who would have thought cancer of the appendix?! My sincere thanks for your prayers and thoughts. I delayed typing this hoping for more word along the prayer chain.

The Hardware: No Drama as Frankerazor and Gillette steel partner for a great shave. (Heck that hasn’t changed but feel I should type a little in each section)

The Software: my lathering bowl floats even with a full load of lather. I floated it in the hot water in the sink to see if it achieves warm lather. It does, but perhaps I should check the temperature of my hot water. The lather appeared to be breaking into bigger bubbles, but it whipped right back up. Warm lather felt goo with SafetyCat wanting to occupy the window and the resulting cool draft. I was having trouble identifying the frag apart from the heavy alcohol blast. I got none. But i5 was very good and slick.

The Shave: A great 3 pass DFS. One spot on my jawline would have benefitted from a East to west pass.

Who would have thought cancer of the appendix
That's the cancer I survived. Stage 3. There are treatments for Stage 4 (google HIPEC) that when successful can buy 5-10 years time. From what I've read, and I researched only legitimate medical sites, estimates put the number of USA appendix cancer cases annually at 1500 - 2500. It is quite rare, but can respond to certain aggressive treatments. Best of luck to your friend Dianne. She is in my prayers. Believe me, there is a special place in my heart for appendix cancer patients. (y)

Razor: Gillette Post War TechEinstein / Gillette Super Platinum (Black) (6)
Soap: Parsons Humble Mug Soap b2
Scuttle: Face Lather
Strop:
Brush: Sorrentino TSC Anniversary Badger
AS/EdT: Rich’s DFET Bay Rum

Comments: Shave 6 on the Gillette Black continues the streak of amazing shaves. I decided to try face lathering stick style with the Parsons Mug soap

The Hardware: I’m really digging the combo of Frankenrazor with this blade. One cautionary note. In the absence of Safety personnel, one should definitely check the equipment at least once. On pass one, the head went loose and I got a little nick as the head pivoted uncontrollably.

The Software: as well as beta 1 worked, I went all in for a direct application face lather. That is not in this soaps wheelhouse. It still provided all the desired slickness, but I had more trouble than I usually have face lathering.

The Shave: with two days growth I figured I could certainly rasp off plenty of product for a satisfactory shave. I guess I still need practice with sticks. Anyway, I still got a DFS+ in 3.5 passes

That's my fear with the Vector, as I follow Blackland's recommendation to loosen the head to rinse and dry. My OCD has helped me there, as I so far have always remembered to re-tighten it.
This is a practice I have to start doing for the Vector, once I pick up back up after 1 blade Feb. My last string of shaves with it, normal rinsing, I had ended up with a very small amount of tea staining I need to buff out. It must either be the particular grade of stainless or the razor or the stainless grade of the blade that’s doing it. I’ve only every gotten water spots on my other razors doing the same thing.

I don't loosen mine or anything other than a good rinse and towel dry outside surface and haven't had any staining yet. Must be my crummy water @Spider says I have 🤔

Razor: Gillette Post War TechEinstein / Gillette Super Platinum (Black) (7)
Soap: Speick Stick
Scuttle: Face Lather
Strop:
Brush: Techichi Hive Synthetic
AS/EdT: Speick

Comments: Decided to do another direct application shave after my troubles with yesterday’s shave. The only stick I have is Speick, which is fortuitous because the A/S is so soothing.

The Hardware: Still liking the Frankentech. This time I checked the head for tightness just in case. SafetyCat wrote me up for last shaves failure to inspect my equipment. The blade at 7 shaves shows no sign of degradation. In keeping it right where it is until that condition changes. Not even flipping it. The Hive brush proves to be an able face latherer.

The Software: After a kind of slow start while the brush was gathering product, I achieved a pretty thick lather. It proved a bit dry. I’ll need to practice this technique a bit more to get a feel for moisture control.

The Shave: Another DFS with points off for missing a spot on my neck. I’ll whack those off dry later.

What problems did you have?

It kinda broke up in a strange texture. Fibrous like. I’m going to try it again Saturday Night now that I’ve had a practice lap. It could be my problem with moisture control, being a bowl latherer. Is beta 2 lightly scented? It seemed so.

Razor: Gillette Post War TechEinstein / Gillette Super Platinum (Black) (8)
Soap: Pannacrema Nuavia Blu
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop:
Brush: Razorock 400 Synthetic
AS/EdT: Witch hazel (from the Giant Ass bottle)

Comments: Recent discussion about the glory of Pannacrema inspired me to bring mine out for a turn.Even if only for a quick Sunday Morning running late for Church shave I love this stuff. I took a pretty good spill after church at the restaurant so am pecking away at the iPad here in bed. Nothing broken, but a fractured pride. I tried to step backward and the leg failed to move as it was told. So I put my weight on a leg that was not in position. Kaboom.

The Hardware: Still liking the Frankentech. No drama. And the blade is as keen as ever. I’m kinda glad I have easy whiskers.

The Software: Pannacrema.. nuff said.

The Shave: a pretty good shave and worthy of a repeat so I can take my time and enjoy it more.
