Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

It's been ages since my jar of Nuavia came out to play. Sorry to hear about the fall. That sounds unpleasant.

Razor: Gillette Post War TechEinstein / Gillette Super Platinum (Black) (9)
Soap: John @The Monkey Parsons Mug beta 2
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop:
Brush: Sterling Fan shaped Badger
AS/EdT: Proraso green

Comments: Forging on with the Gillette Black, and bowl lathering with the Beta 2 soap. This should be a pretty drama-free shave.

The Hardware: Still liking the Frankentech. No drama. The blade is starting to show some signs of tugging. We will decide if this is EOL for this blade next shave. As it is, still reaping the harvest.

The Software: John’s beta 2 improves a bit on the lathering aspects of bowl lathering from its first iteration. I was able to pretty easily get a nice high structure lather with only the bloom water and raise a nice sheen after a few spritzes of water using the Josh technique.

The Shave: the tugging was most pronounced on my neck and raised a few weepers. this is not unusual for a blade that is post-prime. One more shave is about the best I can expect for an overall good shave. But it did make a good run of 9 shaves, which is above average for most. Alum lit me up pretty good, and Proraso sealed it all up. It’s been several hours since the shav3 and I am still sportin’ a DFS. So a success.

Razor: Gillette Post War TechEinstein / Gillette Super Platinum (Black) (10)
Soap: Fine Shaving Implements Platinum
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop:
Brush: Red Synthetic
AS/EdT: Fine Platinum

Comments: In the last Entry, the Gillette Black was showing signs of dimming. I am taking a chance on another go, but am hedging by doing a full double hot towel and pre-shave regimen, something I rarely do, to soften my whiskers and reduce the tugging. In addition, I have the Vector idling on the tarmac.

The Hardware: The Frankentech is still my razor of choice, but the blade, while benefitting from my pre-shave, is no longer keen enough in my opinion for regular shaving. I am experiencing significant irritation.

The Software: Fine soaps lather and protect great! With some tinkering I got a great sheen and voluminous lather.

The Shave: As before the tugging started from the start, and became irritating by neck time. While I did get 3 passes in, I’m going to bin this blade. I did a bit of clean-up with the vector, but I took a couple of hit points in facial damage.

You've peeked my interest in that Gillette Black and now have a couple to try eventually along with some others new to me. You done good but binning seemed the wise course.

28 Feb 2020 DE-Vet stunt shave

Razor: Gillette Post 7 o’clock / Wizamet (6?)
Soap: RazoRock Blue
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop:
Brush: Frank Shaving
AS/EdT: Fine Platinum

Comments: I was kind of relieved none of my gear could accomplish this stunt and thought I could skate, but noooooo! KJ decides to share the love. So here we go!

The Hardware: the razor is capable of threading the handle tight enough to the cap that what we essentially a 90 degree shavette. It demands all the concentration and discipline of a standard thin blade shavette. That is what I cut my teeth on, so I have reasonable confidence, mixed with a healthy trepidation, of a successful shave.

The Software: Razorock Blue Barbershop is an homage to Floyd Blue. Bergamot, Lavander, Lemon and Baby Powder. A classic barbershop frag. And the bonus: Mama likes it! Easy lathering seems to be common with Italian made soaps and this is no exception.slick and thirsty this tallow based soap has good cushion and a great bloom of fragrance.

The Shave: I did film this shave and in reviewing the tapes, I see my muscle memory carried the shave. Aside from being aware of pressure there were no real problems with the shave. Some irritation on the chin proved to be no problems. Overall a good two pass with a followup with the Vector on my trouble spots. I walk away with a DFS by any standard.

Razor: Gillette Aristocrat / Wizamet (7)
Soap: Strike Gold Rushmore
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop:
Brush: Strong Set Badger
AS/EdT: Strike Gold Rushmore

Comments: shot a vid of this shave and it turned out pretty good despite catastrophic equipment failures. The last couple days have been a bit unpleasant due to a flare up of my endocrine problems. I’m layin off the open blades til I’m all synced back up. Sometimes it takes a bit to settle back down.

The Hardware: The Aristocrat is one of my favorites and it happened to be here so I won’t injure myself shaving. (Hands are a bit shaky) Wizamets is holding up better than my Gillette Black did on testing.

The Software: Strike Gold soaps are proving to be able performers. The old Strong set was a boar brush I used to play with at my Grandmothers house. It was kept in an immense oak desk my Uncle had painted grey. Alas, he sanded and the paint got down into the grain. It ultimately ended up at my house and then I had to move it a couple of times. It weighed roughly as much as a small car.

The Shave: overall a pretty good shave. At some point after pass 1, my camera mount failed and kaboom! I think this has happened before. I’ll have to rig up something more secure. With the microphone attached to my shirt, no adjustments were needed in the volume. Perhaps I’ll use a lavalier microphone more.
