AS/EdT: Duke Cannon After Shave Balm
Comments: Haven’t had a Kamisori out in quite a while.
@woodpusher provided a fine specimen a while ago and it gets the call. Also trying a commercial grade shave Creme by Duke Cannon. I viewed this brand as a novelty brand a while back, but here it is, and I’m not afraid.
The Hardware: This Kamisori comes from the Yasugi iron sands of Japan is a very high grade steel, but not like the Tamahagane steel famous for Japanese swords and stuff. I finished this blade on. Jnat the stripped the bejeezus out of it. It’s a tree topper for sure.
The Software: Duke Cannon Shave Creme closely resembles Proraso Cremes in its texture from the tube. Smearing it on my face may not have been optimal, despite the directions. I would either bowl lather or apply the creme to a brush for lathering. It made a mess and wasted product. It does create a passable lather, capable of a Kamisori Shave. I was not initially impressed by the Aftershave Balm, as it felt like hand lotion on my face. It did eventually absorb with minimal fragrance. Still feels a bit greasy several hours later. It’s now a hand creme for me. This software combo is quite subtly scented to the point of being “tactical”
The Shave: it’s been a few moons since I’ve shaved with a full on Kami and I was a touch nervous about causing fluid leakage. The geometry of the blade is such that when you approach the critical angle, you can feel it start to gather some flesh to fillet. On the Back-hand side it’s just like using a wedge razor. I was pretty cautious on my neck and it hurt the overall shave Score. Most of my face came out shiny and smooth, but my neck is not quite as I like it. I give this one a qualified DFS.
